In some cases, if i can't play as a female char, i won't get the game.
In my view, HNF makes the most sence, ofc doesn't mean HNM isn't as good, but it doesn't have the same impact.
Note i'm a male game player, but plays almost mostly as a female char.

i'm obviously female but i've played so many games always having to play as a male to get a decent storyline and i hate it for once it was nice to play as a woman grey warden and have a great storyline in dao i just hope that it doesnt go down hill in expansions or da 2 that would be a huge let down for me but my hnf just seems to be the best playthrough i enjoyed the most and it fit with nearly all the da story and was very personal with the howe/loghain bits as she lost almost everything and had to decide if she would give up the man she loved too or use a ritual to save them both and become queen even though it wasnt really what she wanted but it was better than losing the one thing remaining in her life til the end where you find out fergus is still alive
I agree, it's my favorite playthrough. I connected with this the most. BTW, love your avatar.

From what I gather reading the thread, HN seems to be the general consensus, but what gender is still up for grabs. Which is alright in my books.

i sure do hope HNF's story will be taken into consideration (like really) and her marriage to alistair in future expansions/sequels. maybe have a baby with him xD
one of the most touching stories! and i played a lot of games. only fable touched me like this (well not as much)

I agree Shedevil, things are better now in terms of games having good storys, without being forced to play as a chiched male, who about as intresting as flypaper (too many games to list) but most recent example is mass effect male lead char.
I playing as a HNF at the minute, and found out something new, which was shocking, if you remember Iona and Dairren at castle highever, when first meeting with your HN mother, after the talk, you can go to the study, and speak with them, even strongly hinting about asking one of them to join for the night.
Then during the attack, you see who you been speanding the night with, killed right in front of you, i was shocked and it added to the feeling with the story, very few games do that.

i bought it for the pc and ps3 i'm just greedy that way :}
OMG, same situation in our household, PC version and PS3. I play the PC, my son plays the PS3 version. I got the game for him for Xmas, at first he didn't think he'd like it because he isn't into rpg, more action and sports, but he liked it. He has played more endings and other origins than I have. He is a power player, I'm a powder puff, I like taking my time and going slowing. I want to think about my decisions.

I've played the HNF both ways with Sweet Darrien and sometimes not. This is why I'm wondering....am I already with child before the joining. Try the option with Fergus' wife about the more men the better, I did that once and was surprised at her response.

In all seriousness HN is the most canon but like BW said there is no canon so it really depends on how you perceive the story to be the most canon.

Is anyone having the problem once Al declares his love that he protects you in battle. I have to keep directing him to the warriors. My love, I can do this myself......uh backoff.

- The game kind compels you to choose Alistair as the king (and this is something that's guaranteed to happen in this particular storyline, otherwise the HNF couldn't become queen).
- The game also makes practically canon the fact that Ferelden won't have a legitimate heir for it's throne in the near future (afterall it states that wardens are infertile and Anora is also infertile), and having a HNF as the queen would reduce even more the chances of having a legitimate heir (and thus secure what seems to be the authors original intent).
- Several times it's stated in the game (even by Alistair himself) that Anora isn't trustworthy. In the toolset she's even described as someone that "is capable of setting morals aside to achieve the ends she desires". I really cannot imagine how someone that is so poorly described could be meant to be the canon queen of Ferelden. Having the HNF as queen would take her out of the power for good.
- Perhaps this is the most important point, but if the warden is a HNF that is meant to become queen, the Dark Ritual cannot be considered anymore as simply an option, instead it becomes a necessity.
- The comic "The Revelation" writen by David Gaider and illustrated by Aimo represents a scene that was originally meant to be in the game. If you read it, even if you ignore the fact that the warden is referenced as a "she", you'll probably agree that the particular scene fits better with a female warden (specially one that romanced Alistair). Just imagine the question Morrigan asks Alistair in the fourth pannel of the fourth page being directed to how he feels towards a male warden (even if you change the word "love" for "like" it's still kinda weird).
- If the Dark Ritual was done with Alistair, Ferelden would have a heir to it's throne, although a bastard one, making it a necessity to try finding Morrigan's child.
There are several other reasons why I find this specific origin more likely to be canon, however some of them are too small for me to mention, and others are based on rumours (and the last time that I posted a rumour it was understandably not well accepted).

Where do you get this from? Its just as likely that Cailan was shooting blanks.
