Then i would need to prove what they are thinking. That they consider themselves a higher life form much like we consider ourselves a higher lifeform.

To do so would be easy. Both Sovereign adn Harbinger consistently display attitutes and conversations to such intentions. Since you have played both, you do not seriously require me to find and quote text for you do you?

So what? To a.. member of the National Socialist Worker's Party, a Jew was little more than bacteria.
This did not make them right, or good. It in fact made them evil scum.

Then we are back to the original premise (while ignoring the higher lifeform discussion). Do the National Socialist Worker's Party people consider themselves evil?

No, this doesn't change the fact that they were.

It happens on almost every thread on this forum. That was a general 'stop calling Godwin' not just you.

Then perhaps people should actually stop, y'know, comparing things to the NaSos? Just a thought.

You know who else used Godwin's Law?

The Germans.

No kidding! I had plans on persistantly trolling here, but I go play a game for an hour and it's already too late!

The fact that they require an entire galaxy's worth of species to consume and without this, they must hibernate?
The fact that with a smaller population they could draw this out longer and perhaps not need to consume as much and hibernate so long?

This is speculation. I am looking for facts that support your claims. To my knowledge the exact reasons the Reapers do what they do and their total population has yet to be revealed.

That's the evidence we have.
Either they do it because they're a stagnant society that overconsumes itself into hibernation, or they do it for teh lulz.
Either way is evil.

No, you're making inferences from what little we know. You're guessing at their motives.

Doesn't matter. Their motives are either overconsumption, which makes them stupid as well as evil, or some other nebulous justification which still makes them evil. Whether or not they consider themselves evil is irrelevant. They probably don't. Doesn't change the fact that they are.

A society that doesn't exterminate all others as a rule would be a good start.

When you say human-equivalent, are we talking the unmnaipulated rocks we used? The stones we threw to frighten off predators? Those were tools used by humans, unshaped and unworked.

This argument would be highly relevant if we were cave men.
Seeing as we are in fact a society that split the atom, it is not.

Splitting the atom is a measure of advancement? By what standard? You still haven't made that clear.

Thought!: We can do that because they wanted us too. They left the relays and the knowlage of FTL to teach us how to use their tools. Using the thalix cannon thing was not intended, but i dought we could understand it without the basic mass accelerators we already have.

And what about all the tech before mass relays? Like the tech we have now? We did that on our own.
Furthermore the fact that they wanted us to have mass relays is irrelevant since most of the species in the game reverse-engineered it on their own, not counting uplifted species.

You can dump a nuclear reactor in the middle of a pack of gorillas and I'm telling you right now they're not making nuclear submarines any time soon.

that is a result of eezo. its a magic element that makes all problems go away. If someone dropped real FTL in our laps, we would have no idea how to fly it across the galaxy. we could guess and speculate, but all we would be doing is pressing buttons and crossing our fingers

It's a measure of advancement over a creature who's highest achievement is banging rocks together.

Some of you people are either dense as all hell, are just arguing for the sake of arguing, or a combination of both. And to some others, find a damn spell checker and/or a thesaurus. This whole thing between the Reapers and the rest of the galaxy is not about good or evil, its about survival.
End of line.

Yeah, and you could give Eezo to a gorilla. It still isn't going to be making submarines.

Agreed. But I was wondering more about what you hoped it to achieve. You said the Reapers are stagnent, so I assume you want one that never stops growing.

Oh for god's sake. Animals using rudimentary tools is not relevant.
Did they make human-equivalent tools? No. Do they understand our tools? No. Can they build a factory? A house? A dog kennel? No. Can they take our technology and reverse-engineer it? No.
We can do all of that with Reaper tech.

Ok so now it is not about using technology but the ability to make racial equivalent tools (it is very suspect that the Thanix cannon is as powerful as Sovereign's actual weapon) and understanding of the tools.

Understanding of tools trivial. Eg a chimp using a spoon http://www.apa.org/m...0/03/tools.aspx
Make human equivalent tools. Eg a hook http://www.sciencema...ture/data/crow/

Well the more you know. Carry on!

I was actually going to chime in with an argument but it was pretty much Sunnie22's post on page 3, so it wouldn't fit atm since this thread all of a sudden is about what is sapient v what is sapient.

Are you serious? The intelligence and resources required to split the atom are leagues above what's required to throw a rock at something.

I think if I sprikled Eezo on most of you, you still won't be making submarines. Did someone imply that Eezo grants submarine building skills? Cause that's just silly!

You suck Vaenier! Making my troll skillz look bad!

Are spoons and hooks the apex of human tool making?
No?

Again, by what standard. You haven't made that clear yet. Where do the values come from?

From what I see, apes have no need to split the atom, so why should they be pushed in to doing so?

The intelligence and resources required to throw the rock are leagues above what's required to process proteins.
The intelligence and resources required to master FTL are leagues above what's required to split the atom.
