Hopefully it will be possible with modding or cheats. Going back to play the original with the new specializations would be a lot of fun for me.

WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE ASK THIS CONSTANTLY?
NO YOU CANNOT , END OF STORY!

With the rate of posts here, topics come and go quicker than a lot of us can come up with. You, sir, need to chillax.

Sorry am annoyed for other reasons. No new specs dont go back to Origins. Been answered many times.

And if this sorry-assed forum had a search function, people might be able to find those previous posts

I think the point is actually another: how many specializations will we be able to choose? 2 or 3? I'd rather have 3!

I haven't read much about the new specializations, but it appears that we can take a third. As for if you can use those in a new 'origins' compaign, I would think yes as it's unlocked in Awakenings...UNLESS it has some sort of lvl requirements or advanced prerequisites.

Ok, definitive answer time as there seems to be confusion here.

Currently, the materials (such as new specializations, respec tomes, new weapons, etc) do not transfer from Awakening into Dragon Age: Origins.

Thank you, that's helpful. Guess I can't bring a Battlemage to slay the Archdemon on my next play through =p

Not what I asked, Mr. Priestly. I was asking if unlocking old specs in Awakening unlocked them in Origins.

Well that would require the characters or books for those specializations to even BE in awakening, to begin with.

We've had it confirmed that you can unlock Blood Mage and Reaver in Awakening. I'm just wondering if that goes back to Origins!

I wish I had phrased this better in the original post. It seems like nobody understands what I'm actually asking.

So in other words, even if you unlocked Battlemage in Awakening; if you created a new character you won't be able to select that specialization on the level-up screen until you import it until Awakenings? Or is the "globally unlocked" aspect of specializations going to be removed completely?

The new specialties are only available in Awakenings. Once you unlock Spirit Warrior or Battlemage, it stays unlocked for new playthroughs of Awakening, but you don't get to use them back in Origins, because they're not present in that game.

No, really, I get all that!

But Blood Mage and Reaver are present in Origins, and we have a chance to unlock them in Awakening. If we unlock them (AND BY THEM, I MEAN, THOSE TWO SPECIFIC SPECIALIZATIONS, REAVER AND BLOOD MAGE) in Awakening, do they also unlock for use in Origins?

We already knew that. This is about the OP's question: If you unlock old specializations in the x-pac, do they transfer back to regular DAO?

Correct. New Awakening specs do not carry back to the original game, unless you're on the PC, in which case there will most likely be a mod for it.

If I'm reading that bolded section correctly, he seems to be saying that old specializations unlocked in Awakening will be available in Origins.

Ah, I get you.

No, The information from Awakening does not transfer, so it does not unlock in Origins.

If you give it some time after the release, I'd bet money some enterprising modder will come up with a mod that allows you to use the new talents, material tiers, gear, and all that other good stuff in the Origins game somehow.

That's disappointing; the mage specialization choices in Origins leave a lot to be desired.

This seems like a clear regression from games in the past, where expansion packs actually expanded the original game's gameplay. What, exactly, is the reason for this regression?

I can understand if maybe the new specializations are considered "epic" specializations, although I still find it kind of lame. But what about the new non-specialization spells and talents? Are those "epic" too? Are they fifth tiers (or above) for spell/talent lines we already have? And what about the new enchantment skill? Are you telling me Sandal is epic? (well, okay, maybe he is :P, but what about all of the tranquil? or any other dwarf who can enchant?)

Still raises more questions.

Such as, if I save one spec point in origins, can I spec in the two new ones in awakening?

I've got to agree with some of the people on this thread. It's extremely disappointing that we cannot play some of the unlocked specializations from Awakening in Origins. There is also a couple other things like some of the characters Ioved in Origins can't join up with me in Awakening. I'm getting the sinking feeling that this is a rushed expansion. I really hope I'm wrong on that.

Yeah its called an expansion and yes it expands the new content in the new campaign but does not expand anything in origins :-( this is realy realy disapointing, no DLC carries forward none of the new spells specializations can be used in origins, this isnt good, that was one of the best tings about Neverwinter nights expansions having the new classes etc be able to be used in the original campaign adds replayability, im hoping "currently" mean we see how this will upset us and we will work on changing it.  but i do agree that unlocking things in awakeenings should not carry back :-)
