Stage 1: Denial
Stage 2: Anger
Stage 3: Bargaining
Stage 4: Depression
Stage 5: Acceptance
Having seen the variety of threads on this topic I'm regularly amazed at how many people seem genuinely upset over how these things are handled in even just an expansion. Obviously a lot of folks got a deep emotional response out of the game and that's awesome. So I'm curious; for those who are upset and if you're honest with yourself about the realities of what will and will not be included in Awakenings, what stage are you at?
No US, no Romance in Awakening: Which stage are you at?

I'm on acceptance. I actually hated my US ending so I replayed a new rogue. I actually just cleaned up my list and deleted the dead one. I was never happy with her anyhow. The thing that bothered me most was the lack of romances. I ended up making Alistair King, and ruling beside him, nd taking morrigan's offer. As I posted in another thread though, I've found perspective on it. I'm just copy/pasting what I said earlier in another thread here.
"But then they said it didn't END the romance, it just got put on hold. Which I'm pretty much going through in real life with my own husband (year long deployment). So I realized that they did such a good job with the relationship building in the first place, in a way this actually ADDS to the romance indirectly. You're going to MISS that person. Be it Leliana, Zev, Morrigan, or Alistair. Just like you would in real life in the same situation. And unfortunately sometimes duty does separate you. Damn that Wynne for being right."

I'm at Stage 6: WTF?!
Because of no Leliana. I really enjoyed having her as a companion in Origins. And now, I is sad.
I can live with no US, as 1. I didn't do it with my main and 2. You still can leave your US character dead and start with the Orlesian Warden.
No romance made me cringe, but I can deal with it since there's no Leliana to romance (RAGE!) and Bioware said that our romances will be reffered to.

They've said that how you dealt with the archdemon will be important in the expansion, so the ultimate sacrifice matters. The fact that a player who desires it can handwave the ending to make it that there character didn't do the sacrifice merely changes the game choice, it doesn't affect how that choice will be dealt with in the game. It also doesn't force other characters into a similar handwave. So that part doesn't apply, I think.
Re: the romance.... I was initially very disappointed that Alistair wasn't in the party, but accepted it almost immediately. He's only been king (in my playthrough) for a matter of months, and he and the PC have different responsibilities that would logically mean that they're apart at times. Also, they haven't ruled out further development of the romances in later expansions. So...one mission of relatively short term where they're apart? Not such a big deal.
Taking it outside my own game, the epilogues make it clear that Morrigan is going to be gone for a while. Zevran and Leiliana aren't wardens, so there's no reason for them to be on a mission to take control of warden holdings and recruit new wardens. It's true that there's no apparent reason for Oghren to be there, either, but I suspect that will be part of the new area of the deep roads. He may have a specific reason to go there. There will have to be some reason outside grey warden business.
If writers try and shoehorn things into a story that don't logically go there, you tend to end up with a mess, so I fully accept their decisions.

Stage 5. I can take the "no romances" part as Awakening is supposed to be more "d-d-d-danger lurks behind you" type of scenario, and romances would kind of dampen the urgent mood. "No US" feels bit silly, as there is a possibility of playing an Orlesian Warden, so why not import the decisions and such from Origins into Awakening without main character?

Stage 5 for pretty much the same reasons as errant_knight.

Stage I don't know.
I can understand errant_knight's point of view and yet I at least want an email for already existing romances. For instance, my toon IS the King and Queen Anora has nothing to say about him running off to fight more darkspawn? I am sure she would accept it but I am also sure the character would have something to say.

I'm still excited so I guess I don't fit in any of the stages. I'm going to get the game no matter and reserve my like/dislike for when I finish it.

Stage... 7 since someone claimed stage 6 already: Excited.
Being someone who plays jRPGs and whatnot, there's enough romance to last me a few lifetimes. I just want a new reason to throw away hours of sleep.

Five, at least regarding the US Ending.
I'll just imagine the continuation starting with a "What if..."

Until I play the game and see if they continue to have a deeply story and character interaction driven game I can't say I'm at any given stage yet. If I had to choose a stage, I'd say "disappointment" moreso than "depression". If I wanted to play a Guild Wars-ish game where my companions are basically utilitarian I would be doing so. If they maintain a deep character driven plot even without romances, then I would fall into "acceptance" without any trouble. If they sacrifice rich character development of not only my PC but the other party members then I would most likely fall into the category of feeling "betrayed" and not buy the next expansion after this one.

Its unfornate that BIO is coming out with RTO and the expansion pack around the same timeframe. Ive played thru the game twice with 2 different classes. To me personally, i wanted all the trophies that are associated with the romances. Too bad, the main character couldnt have a relationship with the daughter of Loghain. IMAGINE HAVING 2 WOMEN RULING!!!!!!!! LOL

I'm at the acceptance stage now. Initially I was very disappointed and a little angry as I have roleplayed my main warden as having Leliana as permanent love interest, and I couldn't see why she wouldn't be there alongside him. Also, the absence of the romance options was worrying as I believe them to be a key part of DAO.
I'm now prepared to accept that she is waiting at home for him while he's on a posting and in the meantime I've restarted that warden to benefit from my experience of the game to date, so I'm reasonably content for now, as long as the romance options do return in the future along with my warden's companion.
I think the problem was that many of us expected that an expansion of DAO would pick up things like the romance options and our companions straight away, so it came as a bit of a shock to find that both were to be missing.
I'm now waiting to see some feedback about Awakenings following its release while I complete my replacement warden, so it is on hold for me at the moment..
