I wish they could have let your character change the main story a little bit more. Whether you are bad or good, it really doesn't matter besides teamate approval ratings(which is only good for "romance" imo). I wish they could of gone more like KOTOR where your decisions affect Ferelden.
Same story no matter what....

The story does change. You can have completely different allies at the final battle depending on your choices.

Possible spoiler, although it should be expected and obvious.
They did that to keep consitency with the overall lore of Thedas. When they make another DA game, they can refer to the archdemon being killed by two grey wardens in Fereldan in the past. KotOR may have multiple endings (two), but there is only one playthrough that is canon in Star Wars, which is the male good jedi route. KotOR II canon is the female good jedi route.
