Given how there's two new tiers of equipment in Awakening, what do you think the materials for those tiers will actually be?

Enchanted and Epic I don't know it's gotta sound more powerful then the others though that's for sure.

maybe star metal will get an actual tier?

I am seriously wondering if these materials aren't the underlying reason behind DLC items not transfering.
Starmetal was supposed to be tier 8, but also one-of-a-kind. If there is a different material being used as the tier 8 metal, I wonder if Starfang caused problems with that somehow.

I'm pretty sure Gold will be one, considering the armors in the screenshots. The other one, I have no idea.

Cuthlan: wouldn't that only affect Starfang, though? the DLC transfer I mean. the rest of the items had tiers when applicable.
how does gold compare to steel and such, IRL? how hard / brittle it is, how effective a weapon would be, etc, is the main reason I doubt it. but I don't know too much about forging, etc...

Gold is not an effective metal for weapons and armor. Extremely soft. Pretty damned heavy, too.
I would think it would only affect Starfang, but that IS the main DLC item people want. Maybe it was a decision made based on that not working. It's the most reasonable problem I can come up with in my mind.

Yeah but maybe "Goldite" or something. They have Silverite remember.
I hope it's something like Dragonbone, where it changes the color and such of the weapon, Dragonbone makes awesome dark weapons, Silverite makes nice shiny looking ones, and Red steel makes red ones...I liked that, even if they are just new textures.

Think about the new creatures too, if there is dragon bone then maybe one of these new creatures can offer up a material type as well.
Star metal might be the next tier, but I doubt it will be the best one...think about it.

Maybe even some alloys?
Tier 10 is duncan-skin armor, definitely.

Diamond is hard..... and brittle too. Best material for weapons and arms is steel, its both flexible and hard.
Glass is harder than steel, but its not tougher because its too brittle.
You can make steel EXTREMELY hard, but it will shatter like glass too.

Hardness (as in, Rockwell hardness) is not the best attribute of weapons or armor.
Hit a diamond with a hammer, then hit a piece of steel with a hammer. After you stop crying about the money you just lost by destroying your diamond, think about which you would rather use for weapons and armor.

Duncan had an "Obsidian" dagger in Dragon Age the Calling novel. That will most likely be a material. As for the other i'm going to throw out a few ideas.
Mithril
Adamantium
Arcanium
Goldite
Platinumite
Archdemon-Bone
Duncanskin
