IGN only gave it a 8.3 while gamespot gave it an 8.5.

Those scores are pretty terrible for a game that is supposed to be the RPG of the year.

No doubt it will still sell relatively well in the USA but sales numbers in Japan are not nearly as high as past Final Fantasy titles.

With Final Fantasy XIII's failure, the franchise is no doubt going to become increasingly less lucrative.  Perhaps it's time Square/Enix outsource development to another company.  Can anyone say Bioware?!  Yes please!

The game is what all of the detractors feared it would be.  Just a sixty hour long, linear interactive movie where 30 hours is spent grinding, and the rest is spent watching cheesy, pretentious, JRPG melodrama that takes place in the same sci-fi/high fantasy like environment that every final fantasy game has been in since Final Fantasy VII.  It's gotten very stale.

I for one am pleased that the Final Fantasy franchise is one step closer to it's demise or rebirth as something worthwhile.

Lets hear it for Mass Effect 2, the RPG of the year!  Final Fantasy XIII will slip under the radar just like Final Fantasy XII did.
