And what data do you have to back that up addiction? Hmm?

Yea and another review I saw of it didn't speak highly of it. To summarize it:Boring combat and convoluted plot.
I think it's actually a good thing, hopefully they'll now realize that the series is dead and let it go instead of ressurecting it each time like some sort of disgusting zombie:o:sick:

Budah, Jesus, Abraham, Vishnu, and the flying spaghetti monster told me so.

Well, I guess if you make enough bad waffle jokes...

Honestly I never uderstood the hate some can have for games/movies or whatever they do not like.  It is silly and naive to think everything released is going to be something you like or that a companys should tailor make games to suit your tastes.  As long as theres room in the market place for them they will be made.
I will point out that with FF X-2 and FF12 they went a different path and there were many outraged. X-2 had a BioWare type non-lineraty where you could bounce around to different places in a different order and things could change. Then with 12 the whole gambit thing and a sort of real time combat system. People ripped SE to shreds for the changes.

If you change things, fans will get upset. If you don't change things, fans will also get upset. Square can't win (or any other game company, for that matter).

The only thing developers can do is to make a game THEY want to play and then cover their eyes and ears and scream very loudly "I CAN'T HEAR YOU" over and over again cause they can't win against complainers and haters.

My November was wholly occupied by Demon's Souls, February by Mass Effect 2 and March is going to be occupied by Dragon Age (I didn't get to it because of Demon's Souls before).

Then I'll be getting FF13 finally. I can't wait. (that and Heavy Rain, GoW3, Yakuza 3... way too many great games coming out at the same time >_<)

Lies!!!

Anyone else actually played FF13? Ive played about 3 or 4 hours of it so far and its ok, not great.
Its got 2 things though that are making me think im never gonna finish it...
First off the dialogue is the worst ive ever heard in a game its cringe inducing, I know its a JRPG and its to be expected but I could barely take it. Its actually worse than the original Resident Evil. Give me "the master of unlocking" over "moms are tough" any day.
Secondly still related to the dialogue, Snow is the most infuriatingly **** character I've ever encountered, so far atleast. Im expecting some kind of change from him because if its 80 hours of him saying the word hero every 2 sentences I swear i'll declare war on Japan.
Just my musings so far, wondering if anyone else has any opinions?

Im playing this game for 5 hours till now and all i can say is : a monkey can actually play it, characters are annoying (sazh is cool but his hair is a nest for a chocobo chick.... come on!! hehe) and i have no idea whats happening on the story so far.. Im impressed by the visuals tho. Music sucks. I just started another ME2 playthrough.

You actually have to read the codex type thingy to get the story, which is odd. Its very badly explained in the game itself. Your right a monkey could play it, I'm hoping it gets more complex. Lightning and Sazh are cool, everyone else is meh except Snow who sucks beyond belief. Music does indeed suck, except the battle music which gets stuck in your head.

Well prove me wrong... Ya I did not think you could :P

I really doubt I will pick this up from what I have seen from friends and what they have told me.  The final fantasy series has been in a slow decline since 6 imho.
Yes it was your standard "evil is going to save the world and your the only hope" but the world had a great feel to it. The characters were each unique in their ways and had some story to them and they expanded on it. After that you pretty much got to know everything about the characters right when or soon after meeting them. Cyan and the torture he has gone thru losing everyone then revisiting the castle. Celeas and her coming to term with what she was.
Ya it was not as deep as say Dragon Age but this was back in like 94 on the snes. Think I am going to dig it out and start playing again...

Codex should be (in my opinion ofcourse) just for those who want a deeper knowledge of matters not a need to know whats happening. So far im watching a cgi movie than playing a game at least they could have a better storytelling.

Yeah I agree, it shouldnt be mandatory to read it just to get a basic understanding of the story. But they are using it to tell the story it seems, without it your totally clueless. Saying that though having read most of it the story is decent so far, interesting enough to keep me playing. But if the game doesnt pick up soon I fear it wont be enough to keep my interest. Another playthrough of ME2 beckons me.

When i started playing ME2 i had no clue about the ME story (i started playing the original game after i finished ME2) but in the first few hours i was aware of most important events, who is who and of course why all this is happening. In FF XIII i feel just like when im with some ppl who talk about something that i have no idea and after they finish i ask what was all about. This is the exact feeling with this game. Things happen, they talk about it and only when i read the codex i start having an elusive clue.

Just checked it out at a friends house.

Looks fun, although a little bit repetetive.

But that doesn't matter because Vanille is so damn cute. Image IPB

www.videogamer.com/xbox360/final_fantasy_13/review.html

"After 20 hours, Final Fantasy XIII granted me permission to decide for
myself which three playable characters should be in my party. After 25
hours, Final Fantasy XIII granted me permission to decide for myself
how I should develop the characters in my party. After 30 hours, Final
Fantasy XIII decided to let go of my hand, but then thought better of
it and grabbed hold of it again. Welcome to the evolution of the
Japanese role-playing game."

I was thinking of picking this up but the reviews I'm reading have turned me off of the game. Maybe I'll pick it up sometime down the road when I can find it dirt cheap in a used game shop.

from what i've played, FF13 is linear, think of it as linear and you will like it more than as an RPG

Will never understand the "JRPG/FF suxorz, syries must DIE!!!1!!!!" people. I HATE, and I mean REALLY HATE!, sports games but I'm never going to say that they shouldn't be produced. If people like them, companies should make them. Why exactly should the FF series die? Because YOU don't like it?

Completely asinine.

FFXIII is ok so far, though ToV, Lost Odyssey, and Valkyria Chronicles are better JRPGs in my opinion this gen. Hopefully, Resonance of Fate (releases next week) is a lot better. ;p

lol, consumers are the dumbest pieces of **** since breakfast.

I'm surprised they can hold themselves up considering how dumb most consumers are.

Or that would be how it was if all I based it on was their "product loyalty".

I wonder the same thing about people who play GTA for fun.  Gangster crap and glorifying criminals probably upsets me more than anything a JRPG does that makes people start screaming "THE SUCK!"

Different strokes for different folks.

That's probably because people who like a game see it differently. Alot of people who enjoy playing GTA for example don't see it as "glorifying criminals" but rather a big piece of sarcasm or a satire, nicely pictured in some cases like having the character saying lines like "Don't blame me, blame society" while hijacking a car.
