I just finished installing Mass Effect 1 over Steam. But when I boot it up, it starts up massively laggy and clipping, as well as sound clipping. After about 5 minutes I can get to a still lagging character create screen, but there is no button to continue on.

Any help with how to get rid of my massive lag would be great, thanks.

Need more tech info like OS version, video card model and driver version. Also, make sure you don't run 196.75 nvidia driver - it may fry your video card.

You should update video driver.

Uninstall old one, use Driver Sweeper (http://www.guru3d.co.../driversweeper/) to remove leftover files and install http://www.nvidia.co...96.21_whql.html

Try disabling Steam overlay as well - it may be the source of your problem.

I'll try updating and see if that works.

I disabled the Steam Overlay, and that only fixed the stutter lag up to the 'Press any key' screen.

Interesting. Should have fixed the problem. Anyway, since you already bought the game you can try V-Sync or get Mass Effect 1 CD image and use your Steam key to install it. If retail version doesn't work as well then there's a problem with your PC configuration or cooling.

Where would I change V-Sync or whatever and where would I get a Mass Effect 1 CD image?
