Skipping the Opening Cut Scene

 I enjoy the opening cut scene but I've completed the game six times now and I really wish I could skip it sometimes. I would be pissed if on my first play through I accidentally skipped it, but I wish it was an option once we have a completed save file. Sometimes I just feel like messing with the character creator, sometimes after starting a new game I realize I'm not happy with how a Shepard turned out, some times the game will freeze when it gets to the character creation phase. My point is I cant stand having to repeatedly sit through this opening cut scene. In ME1 you couldn't skip the opening either, but it didn't bother me because the character creator came before it. I could just start a new game a mess with the character creator. Was anyone else bothered by this?

I think the ability to access the characer creator as a smaller subprogram in the game files would be a nice option, so you can, as you've mentioned, mess around with genning a face, or tweaking things. Would also be good if you could then swap between male and female genders, without having to do the opening for both genders to get to both creation options.

Who knows, might be something down the line that helps with this.

After watching the intro for the fifth time I just alt-tab to my browser and surf the message boards.

Yah, I do love that ME2 is absolutely wonderful about alt-tabbing out of, and runs cutscenes in the background. Lets me let the opening run AND I can refer to my text guide of the upgrades without having to find a place to print it out.

If on a PC, go to your MassEffect2 install directory, and look under Biogame/Movies

In there are all the cut-scene movies for the game:

Move the following movie files into the directory above (so you can restore them later if desired):

Opening_Seq_INT.bik
Opening_End_Seq.bik
Opening_End_SeqFM.bik
ProNor_Pod2.bik
ProNor_Shepard_Rebuilt.bik
ProNorEscape.bik
ProNorEscapeAsh.bik
ProNorEscapeKaid.bik

also ME_006_ON_AntiGlamour2.bik may need to be moved out too.

also move BWLogo.bik and ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik out to avoid the unskippable start-up movies.

You'll still have to watch the Mirand/TIM opening dialogue, and do the run through the ship to fetch Joker, but all the canned cut-scene shots will be gone.

It's not like skipping straight to the character creation, but it cuts it down to about 3 minutes, instead of 12.

And if you REALLY want to reduce the time, bind a key to a slomo 2 or higher like I have. I love watching Shepard do his Benny Hill run up to the cockpit.

I made a thread about this as well in the past. Oh how I WISH we could skip it.

*sigh*  Fine, fine. ^_^

It's part of the whole Coalesced.ini editing thing. You need to find a program to edit it in and fix it. I use Notepad++ and ME2IniFixer (this program here.

In the [SFXGame.SFXGameModeDefault] section, you can add keybinds. I took mine from this thread. If you're just interested in the slomo cheat, this is what I've got on mine:

Bindings=( Name="Multiply", Command="SloMo 1" )
Bindings=( Name="Subtract", Command="SloMo 0.5" )
Bindings=( Name="Add", Command="SloMo 2" )

These correspond to the keys on the number pad. Use + to speed things up, and * to put things back to normal. (- doesn't really do much except slow things down, but it actually slows down people's voices too, which is kinda funny :P)

I'd never have gotten through ME1 as many times as I did without slomo 2 and slomo 4 (made the Mako a lot more tolerable), so I'm glad the option is still in ME2. I can also recommend:

Bindings=( Name="NumPadSeven", Command="initcredits 500000" )
Bindings=( Name="NumPadEight", Command="initpalladium 500000 | initiridium 500000 | initeezo 500000 | initplatinum 500000" )

I haven't scanned a planet for resources since my first playthrough.

Hmm, I placed all vids mentioned above elsewhere, yet I still see the whole Collector attack on the SR1-vid :(

edit: removing ME2_Opening_SunMid_INT.bik did the trick :)
