Here is a new Custom class Tutorial based on the one in the Wiki, but with somewhat expanded detail intended for those who may be just starting out with DA modding.

DhammaWings,

Thanks for creating this tutorial. It has the best presentation out of the three. Personally, I've tried all three but each time I have the same problem as the poster above. In my case, there is no character model regardless of class selected. I'm not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

This evening (if I get home from work in reasonable time) I will provide a download link for the spreadsheet to reference. Then at least you'll know that any errors you may have will likely be due to the toolset scripts.

Eprim and Abomination5: make sure that background_defaults and chargen_preload both contain references to the proper character template for the new class.

DhammaWings,

I look forward to comparing the 2DAs. Hopefully that will shed some light on this issue.

Ladydesire,

Thanks for your response.

I think my 2DAs should be alright.

Chargen_preload:

3405

default_hm_wanderer.utc

Background_defaults

3405
Human, Noble Wanderer
bhn100ar_castle_cousland
bhn100wp_start
default_hm_wanderer.utc
781007761
781007762
363652

The default_hm_wanderer.utc was created in the toolset and exported normally.

I should reiterate that none of the character models actually appear, including those for the origional classes.

Please let me know if you have another other suggestions.

I just discovered tonight that with patch 1.03 applied, none of this works for character creation. I will need to see what could be altered to make it work, or we could wait until Bioware updates the toolset for 103/Awakening.

Ah...that must be my problem. I've been trying all this with 1.03.

Hopefully there will be an alternative. Do you have any idea what has changed?

I'm not sure as I haven't poked around in the official erf files to see what has changed in the scripts.

Confirmed 1.03 has "broken" custom character, and as Abomination5 reported, now not even the default characters appear when creating a new game. Oh well, back to the drawing board.....again. Posted Image

It's just that they've changed something in the scripts that needs taken into account; I'll see if I can look at what they have in the game when I get home from work tonight.

Thanks ladydesire! I have a couple of ideas too, but may not have time for anything until this weekend.

I have yet to installed the new patch because I don't want to break my stuff and have to wait to fix it :) However though I decided I really wanted to add a new class to my mod and everything is fine except I don't see a default character for either background selected. The rest of my characters load fine, they are all customized, I use none of the default players.

I have triple checked everything and it is correct, including which characters I have it loading in background.xls. I think I may be missing something because my mod is a standalone. I am hoping someone has had this problem and knows of a fix.

Thanks

Sometime in the next day or so I'll be uninstalling/reinstalling both the game and toolset. Then I'll go through the tutorial with a "fresh" system for verification.

I'm afraid we have to wait for Bioware to update the toolset; all I'm finding is compiled scripts in the updated erfs, so there isn't anything we can do right now.

Wish I could get a charcter to show up for my class to then see if the spec I made works lol. Got 2 more classes lined up but I don't want to start those until I got this one working. I have spent the last few hours trying things different but still the same result. Icon and everything shows up fine in any background I have tried, just no charcter. I have remade my default character and even just it to use the mage one.

Any idea what I could be missing?

Has there been any update on making custom classes in patch 1.03?

I'm in the exact same boat as everyone here, everything has been done as per the guides and now it won't work cause of the new patch.

Many thanks

I'll be reviewing/editing the tutorial this weekend depending on RL workload.

You can now use M2DAs for the Backgrounds, but there are still issues with the CLA_base for base classes; you still have to rearrange things for the class to be usable, but you can use an M2DA version for that as well.

So based on this tutorial, I have done everything needed...except the need to make changes to make it compatible with 1.03.

What do I do now to make it work?

Instead of creating the workbook pages with all the data from Origins, just put in the data that you added; the only page that you have to still fully override is the CLA_base that you create, as I have not found a way to make it work as an M2DA yet.

seems like bioware don't want ppl modding the game.. well maybe if they didnt use such boring character classes we wouldnt need to.. personally i dont see how they can call the arcane warrior an arcane WARRIOR when it has sod all warrior skills.. and now i cant even make my own custom character how i want it cos they've gone and changed how the toolset works.. and bioware has the nerve to rag on the FF series for their lack of creativity, when they go and pull something like this themselves.. double standards.. well, they did sell out to EA afterall

so yeah, any update yet guys and gals on making custom classes work with the new patch?

I will be revising the custom class tutorial on the toolset wiki today to clean it up; I've seen at least 3 new classes other than my own that work on the latest patches, so it is possible to do.

I have one problem. When I get to the point where you duplicate the "default_player (Jaden)" Then change the class to Paladin, Paladin isn't there. Any way to fix this?
