It is way too easy to accidentally romance someone in this series. Ashley and Kaidan seem to think asking them the most basic question means I want to sleep with them. ME2 is a little better, but the female LIs still practically throw themselves at me. The only one it makes sense for is Jack, but it still wears on my nerves. I've taken to Virmiring my opposite sex squad member and ignoring Liara just so I can have romances free and clear in ME2. I shudder to think how big a jerk I'm going to have to be in ME2 on my "faithful" playthrough.

Yeah I noticed that too. You want to try to get to know them and your automatically drawn into the romance. Frankly I don't care for any of the LI's for MaleShep in ME2. If Samara was an LI and had some clothes then she would be my top pick of the crew.

Kaidan asks you like 2 or 3 times if he's "out of line". I don't see romancing him as an accident. But as far as Ashley: I don't remember anything flirtacious happening with her before I got the Ashley/Liara jealousy scene, so I'll agree with you there.

And yes, it is too easy, for a male Shep to "accidently" romance in ME2. FemSheps, not so much.

true, my Shep didn't so much as touch Ashley but since wanting to hear her stories apparently =wanting to get laid, i get her freakin picture on my desk in ME2, and i didn't get a ME1 paramore achievement either.

but each party memb in ME2 at one point gives clear options on whether you want romance or not, to which you would choose the "renegade" option to refuse.

I'm not so sure with the FemSheps in ME2....have you tried talking to Jacob? Even the simple investigate options make it sound like she wants to pounce him right then and there

Oh and to be literal about it...

I agree, some of the romance subplots kick in way too easy. It'd be nice if Bioware had constructed a separate dialogue option for romance and a separate one for "getting to know you."

Thankfully, the system in place makes sense for some characters (Jack especially, given she's not used to genuine human interest), and Tali's romance actually made some goddamn sense given how long her and Shepard have known each other. Everyone else seems to be a case of "You're attractive, let's do it," which I don't much care for.

Ask someone about their backstory and next thing you know your in bed with them. Even Mordin admits that if he was to have sex with a human it would be femshep.

The game definately needs more platonic conversation options.

I want to be able to make all my squadmates love/hate me, but I'd also like some control over who gets to share the captains bunk.

Yet at the same time it's VERY easy to miss the dialogue options to romance Jacob if you aren't careful. So while the writers and Hale definitely made it seem like you were instigating a 'romance' with Jacob you really weren't at the end of the day - and Jacob's responses support this. Had Hale not been using her 'come hither' voice during those conversations, something I blame the voice acting director for since it's their job to tell her how she should act for a certain scene, I doubt anyone would have gotten such creepy vibes from how their interactions were handled.

i agree with you the relation stuff is pretty weak in ME2 in my first playtrough jack was like you act like you are interested but you are playing with me or some and i had told her i was not interested the first time that she asked if i wanted to sleep with her and then she wanted me to dump my LI and could not tell jack i was not interested

What did you expect, a love simulator? Bioware isn't going to commit that kind of resources/time into a shooter/rpg.

I'd love to see the romance in ME become more deep/challenging but really, come on, not happening.
