I'm playing as a Soldier on Insanity, and I'm wondering what armor I should be wearing. I've got and am willing to use the DLC armors, if it makes a difference.

I'm currently considering the following:

* Collector Chitin Armor - Large Health bonus and a Regeneration Bonus, so I start recharging Health and Shields faster.

* Blood Dragon Armor - Increase the effectiveness of my Disruptor and Incendiary Ammo Powers.

* Terminus Armor - Increased Shields and more reserve ammo

* N7 Armor (please provide a setup)

* Another suggestion

Other than the Melee shoulders (strength pads, I think), which are pretty good, it really makes little difference that you'll actually feel. Armor is more for decoration in this game.

If I were concerned about it, I'd probably go all +weapon damage, with the custom N7 armor, which generally gives out higher potential bonuses than DLC armors. (Dont forget to pick up the Dr. Pepper DLC headgear for another +damage option.). Maybe mix in a bit of +storm speed for a soldier.

My setup would probably get +10% Weapon Damage (Recon Hood and Stabilization Gauntlets). I could get +13%, but I prefer an all-black color scheme, and the white stripe on the right shoulder of the N7 Shoulder Guards completely ruins the color scheme.

I also always spec my soldier for maximum damage (after Horizon). I don't have the recon hood because Dr. Pepper can kiss my ass, but I usually get headshots anyway so I just use the visor. Other than that I use the default shoulder pads and stabilization gauntlets to increase weapon damage, then the shield harness, and the life support leggings.

I usually have the shiny purple color for my primary and dark blue for secondary, with the lighter blue for the pattern color, for a Skeletor color scheme.

Wear the Terminus or Cerberus armor until Horizon/Collector Ship. Afterwards, the N7 armor is better for damage. Just pick all the pieces with +weapon damage. For chest I'd take the Aegis vest. Legs is up to you, either the ordnance pack or the life webbings. For helm the 10% headshot visor or recon hood is good. Shoulders is up to you, either health or the default N7 ones.

I wouldn't ever use any of the +power damage pieces or armors. They do almost nothing for the soldier.

Well, that's entirely dependent on whether you are going for looks or stats.
At least for looks, here's an idea of mine:

Head: Kuwashii Visor - if you don't care about face and headshot bonus, go with the Death Mask
Torso: Aegis Vest
Shoulders: Strength Boost Pads
Arms: Heavy Damping Gauntlets
Legs: Life Support Webbing

That setup gives you the most heavily armoured look available through the N7 set as far as I can tell, so it's quite fitting for a soldier that would wear such a "frontline"-gear. Another good point for this setup is that you are free to work with colours and patterns as the parts are fitting each other in that regard. Choosing pattern 1, standard (or black) armour colour and orange pattern colour gives quite a good Cerberus look-alike armour, for example.

As for the stats:
+ 10% headshot damage or +10% Paragon/Renegade
+ 15% Health
+ 25% Melee Damage
+ 5% Shield Strength
The stats are still acceptable but naturally far from the best possible result as the set is not focused on good stats.

I'm looking for Stats, mainly, but I prefer a set that I can put in a solid black-with-grey-trim color scheme. The N7 Shoulders give increased Weapon Damage, which is ideal for a Soldier, but I despise them because you can't get rid of the white stripe on the right shoulder. Stupid, I know, but that's how I am.

Collector edition armor.  It makes you look like a "Collector", get it, eh.?...eh?

The power boost shoulders actually aren't horrible for soldiers. They'll boost your weapon damage indirectly by increasing the damage of your ammo powers and they don't have the stripe that the standard N7 armor piece has. The melee shoulders just feel a bit of a waste to me since the shotty and Rev will pulpinate anything that gets close enough to melee you, but I suppose its personal preference.

I see what you mean. And the lack of a stripe gives it a bunch of points in my book.

Do the power boost shoulders actually boost ammo damage?

Yes. Devs have confirmed that Ammo powers are affected by anything that says, 'Power Damage'. They aren't affected by any Biotic or Tech upgrades, so something like the Inferno armor won't do jack for them, but Ammo Powers are still Powers, so generic 'Power Damage' increases will affect them.
