my Mass Effect 1 save files are on an old hard drive, I recently built a new PC.  Is it worth it for me to install my old hard drive and bring the ME1 save files over?  What do I miss out on if I don't and just start the game fresh?  I know there is a web sight that you can download various save files from also, I was just curiousif its worth the hassle?

I'm sure there's some way to mess with it with the save editor, but what you get by importing ME2 is the following: some credits, some extra resources, Wrex being alive, having a choice in how the Council works (fairly non-consequential), and the occasional person showing up and reminding you about something you did in the first game...assuming you were Paragon, and they're thus not dead.

That sounds a lot less awesome than it actually is, believe me. Playing it without those things, meaningless though they seem, feels...kind of barren.

ok thanks a lot! just wanted to make sure quests or companions would not be closed off to me.

Yeah, I also wasn't real fond of the default choices you get stuck with when you don't import a save game.

There are a lot of NPCs, dialog screens, and content that you may miss out on without the save file.

*spoiler*
You will also default to the non-import options which means most of your choice outcomes default to human/renegade.

There is supposedly over 700 decisions that are ported over through saves.
