I hope that in Mass Effect 3, Bioware is able to bring back the sense of discovery that Mass Effect 1 had. For example, when you talk to Sovereign and discover the horrible truth behind the reapers, or when you talk to Vigil and learn the horrible nature of the Citadel. Also, the sense of dire urgency that the end sequence brought about. Here you are, the only person standing between the galaxy and a legion of sentient machines hellbent on destroying everything and if you fail that its, game over man game over. Your standing on a razor's edge between success and failure and everything is riding on this moment.

While Mass Effect 2 was great, it lacked this. They tried, I think with the discovery of the collectors being repurposed protheans, the collectors dogging shepherd for two years, and the human reaper. However, it just didn't have the same 'punch' that similar instances did in Mass Effect 1.

Just thought I would share, this came to mind after listening to the music that plays while you talk to vigil and remembering how I felt at that moment. The music really set the mood, sort of a serene discovery of doom mood, the retelling of the forebeares of the current holders of the galaxy.

I disaggre with you, when I found out that Reapers where infact both Organic and machine (always thought they where machines and never a hint to organic) and that how Reapers where made) I was more disturbed and more shock about anything that was said in ME. I just think it comes down to the person you are.

I agree. I definitely thought it was lacking, though ME 2 is certainly a great game. It started at the Ilos part yes? That tingling sensation when you first glimpse the conduit from Mako guarded by a herd of Geth Collossus-es?

To be fair though, it would have been hard to conceal such things in ME 2. The story was pretty much straight forward from the start. Perhaps if they hadn't leaked the Collectors so early and it was only revealed midway, among other things.

I partly agree with OP. Some more moments of discovery and awful realization.

Also, more set-piece battles. Like climbing the Citadel tower from the outside. That was epic. Only perhaps, a little more actiony.

It was the lack of a sense of discovery that entirely destroyed the story of Halo 3. Please, Bioware, learn from Bungie's failure. ;)

I agree OP. As much as I love ME2 I don't honestly think there was a single moment (other than meeting the LI on Horizon) that stuck in my head. I can remember so many parts from ME 1 and my exact reaction to them. Like fighting Saren on Virmire and talking to Sovereign, and Vigil ofcourse. That whole Ilos level felt so perfect I'll never forget it. So far ME2 is an amazing ride and I will remember it BECAUSE of ME1. If ME2 was the first in the series I would think it was awesome and a fantastic game, but I wouldn't be a total fan/nerd/hangingonBiowareseverymove person now. It would be like Halo...so fun but nothing worth really loving.
