I'm getting my ass kicked, and I need some help. I did Horizon, then several side-missions, then picked up Tali. As soon as I pick up Tali, the Illusive Man calls, and I'm literally forced to go into the Disabled Collector Ship mission. I have 2 Assault Rifle Damage Upgrades and nothing else, so my Revenant can't hit the broad side of a Barn. My team-mates die within seconds, and Harbinger manages to kill my shields as soon as they've finished recharging, so I basically sit behind cover waiting for something to kill me because poking my head out will get me killed. I have the Cain, but one of several things happens. A.), it doesn't charge, and I die trying to get it to charge. B.) It does charge, but I die before I can get the shot off. C.) I get the shot off, but it breaks the game, leaving the platform with the first 3 collectors tilted.

What the fsck do I need to do to survive this section of the mission? And please don't say anything relating to doing something before Tali's mission, because my only save before that is on Haestrom, so I'm forced into the very situation that's kicking my ass.

Are you on Insanity? If so, here's a quote:

Albert Einstein- "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

That is how you can get through most situations. Now some advice: use the Blackstorm if you have it, if you don't, use the beam gun. Stay behind the first cover, and take out the collectors one-by-one, while moving left to right (to avoid the Harbinger attack that forces you out of cover. DO NOT revive your teammates until a Harbinger is on the same platform as you. Consantly spam AR, and slowly pick off every collector besides the Harbinger (until it is on your doorstep). After the collectors have quit coming, use the viper to wipe out the scion. Essentially do this for the second wave of guys as well.

What sqadmates should I bring?

Sorry, forgot about that, I brought Miranda and Grunt. I put squad power usage on NO, and hotkeyed Miranda's warp and Grunt's CS.

Note, however, that no strategy is a one-size-fits-all. I may have gotten lucky, or this strategy may not fit you at all and is doomed to failure at the starting gate.

I'll try it.

Whoever decided to throw you into both the Horizon and Collector Ship Missions with no time to prepare needs to be shot. I have upgrades I could be getting that would make this easier, but no chance to get them.

I know, and Assault Rifle Upgrades just SEEM like the worst to get. It was a pain to get three early compared to Sniper, SMGs, Shotguns, and Pistols.

EDIT: Use the Revenent as much as you can. If you find it unbearable, I would use the GPR or the vindicator. The only problem with the  vindicator in this situation is that it runs out of ammo.

I had a similar issue with my latest Vanguard where I didn't have all the weapon upgrades that I wanted (my lazy self didn't feel like scanning). To resolve the issue, I made good use out of the Avalanche. Three well placed shots into each group froze them all. Concussive Blast once frozen will either shatter or send them flying. Finish Scions and you'll be good.

I really wanted to charge those scions and hijack their platforms.

You might want to try getting rid of the first Scion asap. Most people will tell you to leave it alone and focus on the collectors but the scion is going to be what's killing your teammates and as a soldier you'll be out of cover shooting alot more than the other classes. So Adrenaline Rush + Snipe scion then focus on harbinger & co.

One thing I did was focus on the scion until it had a sliver of health left, and then took out a few collectors. Then, when I was in trouble, I killed it and revived my friends.

It's possible to do. You need to grab the one during Mordin's Recruitment mission, then buy one from Gateway Personal Defense on Illium and one from Fortack's Database on Tunchanka. If you're a Renegade, you can also get one from Zaeed's Loyalty Mission. You just have to remember to actually get them. I could have walked into this mission with 3 Assault Rifle Damage upgrades and both the Accuracy and Armor Penetration upgrades, but I forgot to check Tunchanka, and didn't have the money when I went to Gateway. And as I said, there's no option to do anything after I recruit Tali; if I try to use the Galaxy Map, Kelly gets bossy.

I don't have a problem with scanning. For me, the problem was simply lack of money, and not bothering to check Tunchanka.

I can upload a video of me doing it using the Avalanche. Makes the fight much easier. You want it?

That's it. I'm restarting. Maybe having a halfway decent weapon will do it, because I can't use any of the Heavy Weapons that everyone is suggesting to save my life. The minions aren't an issue; the problems are Harbinger and the Scion. Harbinger takes absolutely no damage from anything, so I'd have to sit there emptying all 560 shots from the Revenant into him to hope to kill him. Doing that while there's a Scion and a bunch of minions also shooting at me, and when I've got absolutely no room to do anything in, and I'm basically guaranteed to die. I don't see how having an accurate and more powerful Revenant will help my chances any, but there's nothing else I can do, so I'm going to have to spend the next 30 hours playing through what I've already done.

Insanity is ****ing retarded.

Might as well. Maybe it will save me 40 hours of work. I don't see how it will, but it's as good an idea as any.

I've done this mission with soldier today. i had Thane and Mordin on the team, you could bring Miranda for her warp. warp the first group of collectors, freeze/kill them once their barrier are down. Then take out the scion with sniper rifle, viper or hand cannon, incinerate and warp. after that, it wasn't that much of a fight. Someone already mentioned Avalanche, you can give that a try, it's very effective in taking down barriers and freeze everything.

You have plenty of time to prepare, just don't go pick up a dossier and you can do all the loyalty missions. I have Thane and Samara before TIM forced me to do this mission, was trying to do it sooner so I can try out Revenant.   As for the weapon,  I'm not all that impressed with it so far, like vindicator better.

I don't have Thane, Miranda and Grunt are both dead within about 5 seconds, I can't survive long enough to get a single shot off even with AR, and I can't use the Avalanche for ****.

In other words, fscked if I do, fscked if I don't, and fscked sideways just by the damn terrain. Or lack thereof.

Have you not done Grunt's loyalty Mission yet?

EDIT: Are you doing an NG+ game or a new game?

I haven't done any loyalty missions yet! All I really get out of it is a costume change.

You won't have Charge to go in like I did, but you can probably use Adrenaline Rush to position yourself close enough to fire.  Wait until they are fully frozen and hit them with Concussive Blast.  Frozen Collectors can turn into a Harbinger, but he stays frozen and is easily killed.

Will be 720p when finished processing.

ME2 - Avalanche Platforms

Edit: Make sure to watch all the way to the last platform to see 1 shot from Concussive Blast kill 3 Collectors right away.

Alright, I have to tell you something from my experience. I found NG+ to be easier because my teammates had more skill points, and I my weapons. Also, Crippling Slam for Miranda is one of my favorite CC devices, and Grunt's Improved Fortify ability really saves him a lot.

Works great on the first platform. Get my ass kicked by the insta-Harbinger on the second.

Make sure he spawns on the first platform and he will be delayed on spawning in the second.

...And it relys on a massive dose of luck. Now, every time I try, I get down to a sliver of health before everyone is frozen, and killed by the Scion while I try to kill the frozen collectors.

Why does Bioware insist on making me destroy my television? Because that's what I'm about to do, and I'm probably going to do it using my 360.
