Moon was pretty solid as well. Sam Rockwell is great.

Best name ever. *wanders off to see if he ever stared in any adult films*

Oh give Hurt Locker a break. Kathryn is now the first female director to win. Avatar has a ton of money and that's worth more than 10 Oscars in itself. Let movies like Hurt Locker have their turn in the limelight too.

Avatar fanboy rage is amusing too watch. maybe those guys can buy a piece of jungle in Africa calle Pandora, paint their skins blue and call themselves Na'avi and then die of malaria some days later.

Yes. Avatar will be remembered as the most colossal waste of money on a film.

Considering it made up that money what, three times over? Yeah, not a waste at all.

Also, Hurt Locker was a good effing movie. I dare anyone to come up with any reasonable position otherwise.

Just because it made it back, it doesn't mean it wasn't a waste in the first place ;)

Okay, so you can not make it and keep 300 million dollars. Or you can make it and come out with a 600 million dollar profit.

CHOICES, CHOICES.

It was a waste in the same way that the money spent developing the slinky, an item with no real utility, was a waste. A good investment, but offering very little in the way of contribution to society.

look i dont think avatar is the BEST MOVIE EVER but i think it deserved the oscar(district 9 rocked too)

but if u want to know what I think the greastest movies ever made are here are the top 10

1.gladiator(perfect plot,acting,characters,cinimatography,ect)

2.the empire strikes back(perhaps the best example of how a sequal to a big movie should be)

3.braveheart(pretty much started the epic movie craze....)

4.forrest gump( tom hanks best movie, great character and story of life)

5.God is my witness( this is a foregin movie from india...won 8 indian academy awards...many people in america dont know this movie but you MUST see it)

6.rocky(the greatest underdog story of all time.)

7.laggan (yet another foreing film from india, again many dont know this movie but it was HUGE at the film festival awards and in india.)

8.king kong 2005(definatly the best monster movie ever i liked how king kong was instead of being a ragin ape like in the 1933 one was more of a character that you cared for..i cryed when kong died)

9.ben hur( this is like the very first big epic movie EVER)

10.the natural(a brilliant sports movie about a man that had his life ruined but triumphed in the end.)

Is it weird that I don't really care all that much about the Oscar's? The movies that did well have been on my radar (Hurt Locker, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, that movie with Jeff Bridges that I can never remember the name of, etc.) for a little while now.

Actually it does.

Movies are a business, you invest more money is movies you expect to make more back.  Avatar spent upwards of 300 million dollars, if anyone other than James Cameron had been director (due to his massive following) it would have been a huge risk.  But it worked out.  It became the highest grossing movie of all time and has made back it's money four times over, before DVD sales, Network TV deals, HBO/Showtime deals, or even Cable deals.

No executive or person earning any sort of royalty off that money considers it a waste of money, trust me.

Avatar? Best movie? Maybe if it had something more than flashy special effects... the only awards Avatar deserves are for the special effects. Nothing more. That movie was one big facepalm-fest. It's a good movie for the moments when you are bored out of your mind, want to kill some time, can't use your brain to think and get easily distr... oooooh shiny!

I'm glad it failed to win. If it won the best movie, I'd lose all hope for the Oscars.

Moon or District 9 should have won.
