I have beaten Mass Effect 1...i want to say between 4 and 5 times. I throroughly enjoy it more than ME2 for some reason, and am looking to find another way for it to be fun. I was never bored until near the end of my latest playthrough. I've been pretty standard with my characters as well...all have ended up paragon males. Would making a female character or making a total renegade A-hole character be enjoyable?

That is entirely up to your personal preferences, but I suggest you give it a try. Try a different class-specialization as well.Impala wrote...

Your entire experience will change playing a female character. I didnt find it as enjoyable doing a complete renegade character but it shows you the different cut scenes you have missed.

I recommend playing a Male renegade(Doesn't really fit FemShep IMO)
Sometimes it's just enjoyable to be an A-hole

The female Shepard voice acting is really great, especially when going renegade. That aside, not maximizing your character and instead just going for talents you think are fun can change up the difficulty and gameplay a bit. Skip the whole, Hunt for the Red Colossus, too. The only thing I hunt for is level III heat sinks.

Do things differently. If you don't, you'll never experience the full splendor of Mass Effect - e.g. to have a chance to hear all the different dialog between squad members alone would require a total of 15 play-throughs... Try female/male, romancing different squad member, staying single, playing as Paragon+/Paragon/Neutral/Renegade/Renegade+ etc.

Playing Renegade from the start is a whole new way for you to play through the game and is also quite funny. So I would say its definately worth doing. Also you could try to get the extreme power gamer achievement by reaching level 60 with one of your characters. And once you've done all that there's always pinnacle station on insanity, good luck

I think the way to ultimately raise a replay value is by playing completely randomly. Like I did, saving the Council and suggested Udina to take a seat. Now thats strange.
It's actually not that difficult to develop your own system how you will play the game really.

The most fun playthrough I had was where I adopted a more complex set of values than "always paragon", "generally renegade", etc. I decided my character would be a pro-human sympathizer who had some deep-seated issues with aliens, but didn't want to be perceived as a racist. For example, he worked out a peaceful compromise with Helena Blake, but he melted the rachni queen. Both were renegade responses, but made for different reasons. When an alien was in his squad, he was more kind to aliens of his squadmates' species than he otherwise was. When Kaiden and Ashley were in his squad, he had less patience with all aliens.
It was more entertaining to weigh a system of conflicting values than to automatically go for the same spot on the conversation wheel.
On a future playthrough, I'm going to play as a female Shepard who hates men. She will make nice with asari, female humans, and Tali, and be a **** to everyone else.

Thats a nice suggestion actually
What I did is to make a conversation system which was made like this.
In my first playthrough my Shep was generally a paragon but what I did is first talk option is the top one(i'm talking about those 3 conversation types) the go down to the middle one, and then go down to the buttom option.
Thats how my 1st Shep was mainly a paragon but still let to Council die xD
