She is a shapechanger, who studied a dragon, a power given time a powerful Shapeshifter with time and the willingness to be so close to a dragon for song of a time could do.
Diogo Gomez on the mountaintop, ring the gong if you wish to fight the High Dragon. And for the one in Orzammar read up on Ageless.

I don't think you get it wowpwnslol you are a mage and you command the elements....... the dragon you are fighting is a fire dragon ad you are using the element againt it which is ice. that will make it die quicker if you ask me. trying killing it fire spells and see what happen and how long it will take to kill it. you can't even solo it and easy with fire spell. please don't say it not challenging when you have trying other ways of kill it.
Instead of typing all that nonsense, you could have said: "If you want a harder game, play like an absolute retard".
You really enjoy calling people retards, don't you?

Dragons should get cool abilities instead of basic grab/tail swipe and fire breath
As opposed to what "real" dragons do, or the outrageous things they do in movies and other media? Perhaps they should talk and be voiced by Sean Connery. Or maybe you want a WoW type raid set up where we can set up artificial difficulty barriers like dodging flame walls or straining healers by popping 39068390683906830896 baby dragon spawns next to then.

How about dragons being able to cast spells? They could do it NWN games, so I don't see why giving dragons a few cool abilities to make fights more excting would be so bad. I guess you're one of those people who prefers tank and spank fights where the only requirement for beating them is having a pulse.

Besides, it's not like WoW is set up any differently. I quit 6 months ago, but have been playing and raiding since launch. Dodging void zones or dealing with extra adds doesn't make the fight any different. It's the same tank and spank, added with crap you shouldn't stand in and other arbitrary difficulty barriers that are trivialized when the first video guide comes out. It certainly doesn't make it any more fun, and the only "challenge" is getting 39/24 other idiots on the same page.

Yes this game is so freaking easy that ppl just solo'ed it left right center. So why not impose self-restrictions to increase the challenge? Naked solo is exaggerated sure. But what about no health poultice/solo. I know of at least one person on this boards that have done it with a non-mage so its not impossible.Evolution33 wrote...
Some people want to be one shot killed by mobs in a game. Are these the same people that hang themselves to get high and cut themselves when they get depressed. I mean seriously if you can be one shot killed the game would become unplayable.
There is always a middle ground. If high dragon is too easy, solo cauthrien. If cauthrien is too easy, solo her in the room with the archers. If that is too easy, solo her in the room with no potions. If that is too easy, do it without forcefield. There are always way to improve the challenge. If self-imposed methods like solo appeals to a gamer, I don't see how things like no potions or whatever doesn't.
Does it count as soloing the Ser Cauthrien encounter if her and the archers burn down my party of Wynne, Alistair, and Shale, leaving my 2hnd Berserker/Reaver all by his lonesome to do the Statue of Liberty play?
I did it, but had 15 hps at the end of the whole thing. Thank you, Ser Cauthrien....you and your Critical Strike using fetish.....<_<

Right, so you made a highly optimized character build with extremely good gear, and found it was possible to defeat dragons "easily". Congratulations. Do you want a medal? Not everyone is a power gamer. A lot of gamers found the Dragon battles challenging and exciting. Perhaps if you want a more challenging experience, you should try placing roleplaying limits on your character?
The role playing excuse is really old and tired. Basically it's people who are generally poor players that can't spend a little time researching the abilities and building a decent character, so they hide behind the "role playing excuse" and drag the game difficulty for everyone.
I remember before release, on the old forums, a Bioware dev said the game would actually be difficult, with smart enemies (LOL) and nigh impossible nightmare mode. I still remember where a dev claimed the game was "quite difficult and required lots of reloads on hard setting" (another LOL). Another golden quote was: "soloing is going to be almost impossible on easier difficulty setting, you can forget about nightmare (LOL #3).
Unfortunately the gaming public is either console kids or bad players (disguising themselves as "role-players") - so the difficulty of the game turned out to be a joke. Easily soloable as any class, not to mention as a party.

It's not challenging defeating something when you know how to defeat it.
This thread sucks.
The roleplaying excuse actually 's quite good . Because you're not really supposed to have 5475893 fire resist and + 5485934 cold dmg when you run into the dragon.
Oh look a dragon!! I need fire resist .. BRB

Maybe if they actually decided to fight like in baldurs gate where they just dont stop attacking till your dead. It may be a bit more fun.

I don't see whats so bad about wanting harder optional boss fights. It gives you something to work towards. Although looking at the new dragon in Awakenings it looks like Bioware are doing just that.

- Child please - Just Like an MMO - kill the healer first and everything else is just endurance - in all honesty - after you kill something the first time - it gets easier everytime you face it. It's not like it's talents/tactics/spells,resistances all change to keep you guessing. plus - it's pretty common knowledge that certain mage specialty builds completely pwn the game. Case in point - spirit healer/arcane warrior elementalist can pretty much rock the game.jsachun wrote...

Would be better to make a difficulty setting that was actually difficult.
Pretty much this, I'm by no means a power gamer, there are plenty of games out there that offered a challenge to me. I tore through nightmare with barely a thought, with "rp" characters. Nightmare mode in this game is severely lacking. Thats a pretty big deal for a game that has this much combat, some of us actually like being challenged in our hobbies.
