Hi,

I've bought mass effect(1) on ebay. It is a Russian/English version. it was cheap and i thought i can just put it on english and i'll be fine, so i bought it.

Some things with my copy, however, i find are a bit strange.
There was no instruction booklet or anything (ok, used game, so the first owner may have lost it)
There is also no requirement to enter a cd-code or something like this. (not sure if there generally isn't one, but for my ME2 copy, there was)
Also, the game doesn't require the disc to start. (not that it would be bad, just find it strange)
There is also an option in the beginning called "downloadable contet", which merely leads to an empty menu.

I've only played the beginning of the game, but during the conversation in the beginning, sone characters simply disappear (become invisible) while they are talking or being talked to.

Also, on the screen in the scene in the beginning, on my version, i can only see some kind of disturbing-signal.
I looked the scene up on youtube, and there you can actually see fighting on the screen.

So, what do you think? am i just being paranoid? and if not, what do i do?

So, tried to start the game again, and it crashed my pc 2 times in a row.

That sounds very much like an illegal version. ME1 has a CD key which is required for the Bring down the Sky DLC. Also a diskcheck is also present, except for the digital distribution version like from Steam.



All in all, your version sounds very suspicious.

Bad news. You bought a crappy game rip. If you really want to buy game cheap - buy it on Steam during weekend/holiday sale (up to 75% discount). If you really want to buy stuff from eBay, read descriptions carefully and think twice before wasting money on questionable quality material.

What to do now? Throw it out the window and buy a legit copy is my suggestion.

As Sir Shendar says, you can download it of steam really cheap. Thats probably your best bet.

It's an illegal fake copy of the game. Mass Effect wasn't a 'Games for Windows' game.

Report the eBay user.

Well, I couldn't understand it all (German is not my strong point ) but thanks for the link anyway.

Kinda strange that they sell Russian/English version in Germany. I also noticed they sold several copies already.



Try to get a refund from the seller since there's no key included.

Report. Same thing happened to me when I was looking for a copy of Beauty and the Beast on DVD. I'm pretty good at checking and double checking not only what I'm buying but also reviews for the seller. They had up it was a brand new copy with all the artwork and case. Needless to say they sent me a copy. I asked for my money back, got it. eBay found out from other users and they got shut down the next day.
