I've been thinking of an adept build, where instead of singularity, or in support of singularity, I could take Area Reave. It's instacast, it's a biotic power, it freezes targets, it heals you, destroys armors and barriesrs and it's perfect for setting up warp explosions. I think I'm going to try this, it sounds great... Any thoughts?

Taking reave leads to reave spam. Reave is extremely powerful but it doesn't make for varied play. Heavy warp on the other hand, isn't as versatile as reave yet it is very powerful in its own right too. Either way, both powers are good.
Edit: If you can resist the dark side, you can mix reave with other powers to make for a very, VERY powerful adept.

Yeah, my point was using reave to set up warp explosions
That would be fun IMO...

area reave leaves a pixel of armor left on most foes on insanity.. you're better off with weapon spam to get rid of armor then pull/sing+warp

doesn't reave have to be used on organic health in order to be able to set off a WE?

I think it freezes synthetics too, it just doesn't channel health from them, but I'm not sure...

Note that you can NOT explode Reave. And it will stagger/DOT synthetics, but won't CC them (so you're better off disabling them via singularity/pull then explode them).
So it becomes a question of Area Reaving to CC and regain your health against organic health, or doing a pull + warp to explode the enemy. And as I have said before, unless you can instakill enemies with WE by tossing them across a ledge, you're better off keeping them CC'ed and use the ragdoll damage bonus to kill them. As such, you should Reave again (rather than pull or singularity), as its CC and heal all in one.
So yeah, for an Adept, Reave essentially replaces Warp (against protection) and Singularity/Pull (against health) for the general mook. Not that's a bad thing mind you, as you can save your Heavy Singularity to disable stuff like Harbinger for a VERY long time.
Only true of Samara (and that's why I back her up with Grunt's concussive shot). Shephard strips armor instantly with armor bonus and/or class bonus to power damage/duration.
