Hi - a few questions on the functionality of reave:

On insanity power duration is modified from 1 to 0.8. Does this reduce reave's damage by 20%, or is the normal (1.0) damage dealt over a shorter timeperiod?

Do modifiers like champion (increase power duration by 15%) increase the damage of reave by 15%?

If these modifiers do reduce/increase the damage dealt, do they reduce/increase the damage dealt vs armor where all the damage is dealt instantly as oppose to over a duration when vs health?

Is there a damage bonus vs NPCs who are 'ragdolled' by reave? (floating in the air being drained - I actually have no idea why this would be the case, but someone on the forum suggested it was true so I figured it was worth asking)

Thanks for your time. =)

Champion increases duration and not damage. So the damage time would be increased but not the amount of damage given per second.

1) Insanity will shorten Reave's CC duration yes, and that also means its less powerful than a similar tier of warp against protection. It's only once you get the duration upgrade that it becomes similar in damage to warp in Insanity.

2) Champion and the biotic duration upgrade increases the duration of the DoT/CC effect of Reave, and it will increase the instant damage it does against protection.

3) Reave definitely gives ragdoll bonus damage. Just tested it on a collector drone. It takes around 5 body burst shots with the vindicator + inferno ammo to take down one at full health. It just takes two with Reave/Pull.

Are you sure about the ragdoll damage? I've never heard about this before.

Try it.

Warp (to strip barrier) --> Reave (to CC) --> Melee while they're reaved (no hitbox/distance multiplier)

..does the same damage as...

Warp --> Pull --> Melee while they're pulled --> Reave

re: "1) Insanity will shorten Reave's CC duration yes, and that also means its less powerful than a similar tier of warp against protection. It's only once you get the duration upgrade that it becomes similar in damage to warp in Insanity."

Assuming this is true (not that I mean to doubt you, but are you sure it works this way? I mean logically it should, but who knows!), I think it'd be worth noting that lategame +power duration on reave would be really good because it'd work as a multiplier with the additive damage, like -

reave with 50% biotic duration and 10% powerdamge from armor + 15% duration = 220x1.6 = 352 x1.15 = 404

compared to: reave with 50% biotic duration and 10% power damage from armor + 15% power damage = 220 x1.75 = 385.

(this'd mean +15% power duration was equivelent to +24% power damage on a fully upgraded reave - obviously before that the power duration results in less extra damage, but)

P.S - this assumes that the increase biotic duration by 20% modifier takes 0.8 to 1. This actually technically probably doesn't work either and it'd take it to 0.96 (because decreasing something by 20% then increasing that figure by 20% is not the same as adjusting the modifier by 0.2 twice - does anyone know how this works for sure? not that it really matters, 0.04 is 0.04, but out of curiousity!)

P.P.S - dragoonkain3, I assume you also tried warp - melee - reave and it had a lower total damage than either of the ragdoll situations? (edit: nevermind, found a post from eric mentioning that ragdoll = 100% damage bonus. that's pretty exceptional.)

Thanks again to all respondees. =)

All I can say is that I'm pretty sure duration bonuses/penalties are multiplicitive.

This is evidenced by the fact that Thane's Unstable Warp leaves only a pixel of barrier left at the last mission, while Samara's Area Reave leaves a sliver of barrier; niether gets a passive bonus to duration or power damage. So at Insanity, this makes sense because 0.8 insanity multiplier to duration * 1.2 biotic duration = 0.96, meaning its expected that Area Reave does less than Unstable Warp.

In any case, if Reave is your weapon of choice, then as an Adept you're better taking Bastion than Nemesis, because duration is multiplicative while damage is additive. When you're already packing +50% damage upgrades and +10-15% power damage armor bonus, Nemesis +15% damage increase is only an effective 9% increase in damage. Bastion is a straight up +15% damage for reave period.

Makes your Heavy Singularity really mean against Harbinger as well; you can pretty much ignore him while you slaughter his minions.
