Wow, on easy?

Make sure you set tactics for your teammates to heal at <50% with their best possible health poultice. Have a healer, and have her heal allies at <50% with heal, and then a duplicate line immediately after for group heal (so she prefers heal, then group heal).

Death Cloud doesn't do too much damage, just make sure you move out of it quickly and you should be fine.

Make sure you're calling in an army--if you've got a good team that can stand on its own, mages or elves work well, but if you're having trouble with the horde then the melee armies can act as cannon fodder.

Focus on killing the hordes quickly--they die in one hit, so you can just shoot them down, but if you let them build a critical mass then they can become a bit of an issue.

If your party doesn't have a high damage output, use the ballistas. You can repair them when they break.

On the other hand, if you've got an archer or mage with 50+ dex or magic, probably better to just shoot the damn thing.

With your melee guys--only melee the archdemon by its hind legs. It can kick you still, but it won't be able to grab you. If it changes targets, pause and move around. Do not melee it head on.

If you DO get grabbed, use Forcefield on your guy, or use Cone of Cold, Shield Bash, Shattershot, Pommel Strike, etcetera on the dragon. If you don't have Revive, then it's best to not get grabbed; see the above note about how to avoid that.

Remove your character's offensive tactics. Using anything but Sunder Arms/Armor on a 2h warrior on the archdemon is a waste of time. Better to conserve stamina and mana for heals and for killing the hordes more quickly.

Did you kill the 2 generals before fighting the archdemon? If not, leave and go do that.

When the archdemon flies to an unreachable place, use this spell combo if you have it: Spell Might, Blizzard, Tempest. This does some nice electricity damage for a long time, which should augment your parties ranged damage. Don't get too close to it though (friendly fire damage hurts).

While on the topic of AOEs: don't use them here. You'll kill your army, and the archdemon moves around too much. The only time you should use them is when it flies to the opposite ledge where nobody can get to melee range on it.

And anyway, with the low hp darkspawn, you could kill just as many using your ranged staff attack in the same time it would take to cast an AOE.

Make sure that you are constantly pausing and making sure that your weaker party members are at least half a screen away from the archdemon, and not in front of it so they don't catch a random flame breath. This also goes for your melee characters--being in front of the archdemon is not a good place to be.

If the archdemon targets a party member, don't run straight away. It will catch you. Instead, run to its sides and away (in a kind of spiral)--it has a slow turn speed and will not pursue while it is turning.

Use Indomitable and Shield Wall (with the knockdown-immunity bonus) for melee characters.

For archers, use Aim (and Dueling if you have it). For mages, autoattack and focus on heals or killing the horde (yellow ones) more quickly.

That's all I've got for now. Beat it a few times by now, each time nobody got knocked down. Heh, just got the "I'm Kind of a Big Deal" achievement for beating the game with nobody ever being incapacitated once. So it's definitely possible man.

...I just really wish I didn't have to spend time babysitting my team. Telling them what to do every second. Healing them and the like. This pausing every second to issue orders or to heal just gets under my skin. The Archdemon jumps up and flies off and my teammates haven't the sense to follow it and to keep fighting. They just stop. In the meantime I fighting the dragon and not paying attention to what they are doing, which is usually nothing or dying, because they are stupid. I am truly sorry it just frustrates me so.

Jallard, this is exactly what i was referring to about Alistair.  And Leliana... well she's annoying because her default tactics set her to use her abilities on random enemies based on their power or hit point level; which causes her to run around and chase the powerful or highest hit point enemy, even if they are 100 feet away...

i had hoards of frustration my first time through, and even after i had calmed down a bit, these people in the forums still pounced on me and accused me of not understanding the controls, etc.

From my take, most of them shouldn't be listened to since they are clearly struggling with their own importance in the universe, and/or immature enough to think it's acceptable to speak to someone you don't know in a condescending way... fortunately, they probably still live at home with mommy...

Regardless of how you presented your case, imo you did not deserve the treatment...  but thanks for taken the shots across the jaw and coming back for more.

but enough of that...

i for one commend you on making it all they way to the end with such a clear lack of understanding to the game... i think you may have opened up the path to a whole new method for playing DA:O... LOL

Has anyone played through the game with their original equipment ?  How much damage will an iron dagger do to the archdemon ?

Has anyone played through the game without increasing your party's attributes at each level ?  Enemies should still level accordingly...  hmmm.... that might bee toooo challenging ???

There are many posts around arguing about how easy the game is, and how leveling sucks, but how many people forgo the free equipment upgrades...

Jallard, are you on a PC or console ?  PC controls are straightforward, while consoles are beyond my knowledge.

SO, while you've gotten some good tips form the respecting others, here's my 2 cents worth.. (ok fine, it's free, so take it for what it's worth)

I manage to keep my team together using tactics by having them focus on each other's targets... generally it seems that they need to be attacked before they will engage, and i swear i've seen that being attacked can intefere with movement commands... so, i usually pair alistair and Leliana by having Leli attack "Enemy of Alistair"... Since tactics are handled in order from top to bottom, i always put the Auto Heal at the top of the list... and any extra slots, i use them like "Leli" ==> "Enemy of Alistair" ==> "Dirty Fighting", "Leli" ==> "Enemy of Alistair" ==> "Below the Belt", "Leli" ==> "Mage Attacked by Melee" ==> "Crippling Shot"... etc.

And when in doubt with tactics, i actually leave them off by clearing the selection... although this tends to encourage them to sit around doing nothing until they are attacked (i think)...

as others have said, the tactics screen is activated by the "\\\\\\\\" on the pc.

Equipment on the PC is Inventory Screen "I" and Select from List and Drag&Drop into respective slot (Body, Feet, Hands, Rings, Necklace, Belt, Weapons" ... Weapons has 2 sets that are toggled by the "/" on the keyboard or selected by pushing the sword I or II in the upper left of the Inventory Screen... Scroll through characters using the arrow keys (big yellow sideways triangles) at top... only present members can be looked through unless you are in Camp (Camp is selected from Main Map in upper right corner).

The QuickBar at the bottom of the screen can also be populated with Poison, Balms, Potions, Skills (Trap Making / Herbalism / Poison Making) and Talents (Bash / Pinning Shot / Spells, etc).  Quickbar is per character.

I am still  amazed you made it through and i applaud your perseverance... (and i am still laughing). enjoy.

The most glaring problem with the tactics is that there are no tests that check the state of your current target.  Things like "Enemy: Rank is Normal" will switch your target to one that matches rather than just testing your current target.  You should use a mod like Advanced Tactics which fixes that.  It add a list of tacitcs of the form "Target: ..." which test your current target without changing it. I find it invaluable.
