Shapeshifter, Blood Mage, Arcane Warrior, or Spirit Healer?
I'm just curious at what people are thinking about doing...

I personally am stuck between being a Spirit Healer and a Blood Mage...which is strange because they are total opposites haha.  I want to be a Spirit Healer because I have always liked playing a more supporting role for some reason.  I want to be a Blood Mage because I reall like doing tons of damage as well xD  Help!

What about you guys?

I'm going for a shapeshifter/arcane warrior for my third playthrough.

There already is a topic about this, which I created a few hours ago =/

I'm actually wondering about that. I don't want a blood mage, healer, or shape-shifter, but she's not so much an arcane warrior either. Why is there no "elemental mage" option? :(

There is. It's just not a specialization. Spec for primal tree. ;)

Spirit Healer or Arcane Warrior.

Don't really care for shapeshifting and Blood Mage is too... warlocky? I like warlocks, but not on the first playthrough. Will probably go Blood Mage on a later playthrough.

I'd like an Arcane Warrior, maybe a Blood Mage.

Hmm, I see all of you pick only one specialization. You can get two you know. You can even take none at all if you want to (or at least not put points into the talent trees the specialzations unlock).

I am not really sure. None of the specializations so far stand out to me. Blood Mage or Shapeshifter, perhaps? Maybe Spirit Healer. Arcane Warrior seems too much like a fighter/mage from D&D, which is what I thought the developers were trying to stay away from. Never been a big fan of those hybrids personally.

I probably will keep everyone to one specialization only so that they remain special for me. Image IPB

+1

Will probably take Arcane Warrior just for a bit of rounding out, though.

I'll try arcane warrior/blood mage, or choose to one of them. I don't like playing supporting roles in my games, so I guess it is it.

I'm thinking Arcane Warrior when I get around to the Mage origin so I can make things personal :P

No but then as the awesomest of the awesome DA dwarves, you'd obviously know all about magic, and would therefore not be included in such generalizations. Image IPB

I tried out the shapeshifter prestige class in NWN: Hordes of the Underdark and it was the coolest thing ever.

It doesn't look like the shifter specialization in Dragon Age gets near the number of forms (only 4?) but hopefully each one will have its own abilities and uses.

It won't be my first playthrough, probably my second; my selfish, insecure, power hungry mage will definitely be going shifter.

I had another great idea for a mind type mage (Enchanter, Charlatan, Illusionist, etc). Do any of the specializations cater to this?

Blood mage, cause the demons are your friends. And any puppeteer-spell is good in my book.

I don't think so, but the blood mage gets a spell to mind control enemies if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, I think you'd want the spells in the spirit spell tree.

Yes, but the extra mana and such are good too. Of course I'm going into spirit, but this was about specs. And blood mage is the only appealing one at this point, for the mage I'm rolling at least.

In order of preference:

Blood Mage

Shapeshifter

Spirit Healer

Arcane Warrior

Blood Magic appears to have the most balanced talent tree among them. The rumours we've heard in the last few days seem to indicate that it has both status effect and direct damage spells. It would also fit the character I want to build.

Shapeshifting gives me some specific combat advantages, without needing extra armour or weapons or their respective fatigue penalties. I doubt I would be able to cast spells while transformed though.

Spirit Healer, well, all the spells seem too much alike to me. All four of them appear to be some variant of a basic healing spell and might be substituted by the Herbalism skill.

As for the Arcane Warrior, the spells seem impressive if the rumours are true, but I was never interested in battle mage characters. Powerful as it may be, it just never appealed to me. The extra fatigue penalties due to armour aren't very appealing either.

Shapeshifter! Image IPB If the enemy thinks they're gonna run up to my mage & park a sword in my gut, they gonna be in for a big suprise! Before they get into the striking range, I'm gonna suddenly Poof! up from a skinny little elf into a huge spider & before they can finish their scream of horror, i'm gonna reach my big spider mouth onto their face, grasp their head in my spider jaws, & yank that head right off the body, then spider jaw crush the head like an egg! Image IPB

I'm thinking Shapeshifting is as close as a mage is gonna get to melee mage power, & I think if ya get low on mana, & the enemy is at range, zap'em with the staff. If ya get low on mana & the enemy is close, transform & warrior through the rest of the battle! Image IPB

I want to hear a little bit more about the Arcane Warrior...I guess once I get the game and see more about how the talents and such work, I will figure it out from there. But right, Blood Mage sounds the most interesting to me.

Blood Mage or Arcane Warrior, or a mix, for me. Or no specialisation, even. I'll see when I've actually got the game.
