For people asking WTF why isn’t XYZ fixed yet?!?! … there is likely a reason. The most probably IMHO is that the game was developed by a rather large team. They almost certainly had original design specs, with rules as intended and a change control process for stuff that got modified as the game actually got written. The problem now is that the majority of the team that developed the game has probably moved on to other projects and determining what was REALLY intended is hard. Consider how long the original game took to write. WE may know that crossbows are bugged … but maybe it was intended to be that way at one time. To find out for sure Bio has to look at tons of documentation, maybe talk with folks who will have trouble remembering, and then test the changes for balance implications. All changes likely have varying priorities as well. Fixing minor things like X-bow damage probably gets a much lower priority than fixing things like lag time or getting the code ready for Awakening. They do know how much folks use X-bows based on the online play stats after all too (though admittedly the fact that the bug makes them suck will affect how much folks use them some).

Hm just downloaded and installed the patch without thinking it might have anby disadvantages. Since I never had problems with loading times and am nowhere near getting ready for awakening (just started my first playthrough), it seems like a mistake to me. How do I set the game back to 1.02? Do I simpkly install that patch again? I fear installing 1.03 and then installing 1.02 over againb will just break things even more...

I installed the patch late last night. I initially got an error that it could not update one of the files but I went into the game anyway to see what would happen. It showed me having none of the DLC which I have already paid for. So I exited and ran the patch again, this time it showed everything there. But I have a question.

How can you tell which patch number you are actually using since it never displays it on the starting screen. Just curious.

From the launcher, select Configure.  In the Configuration Utility go to Game, and you should see next to each of the executables a version number.  If Patch 1.03 was installed correctly they should all be 1.03 except DAOriginsLauncher.exe which remains at 1.01.

Despite the patch not correcting every bug in the game I see absolutely no reason why you shouldn't install it.

The patch did not "break" the game in any way during my complete playthrough including all dlc, so if you got an issue after installing you might want to look closer on the various mods you got installed that may be out of date or poorly made.

The one thing I was happy with was the fixing of the load issue which I experienced after playing for a while and visiting a lot of different areas, although you could bypass it yourself by restarting dao once in a while im still glad that it got fixed for good.

You did a complete paythrough including all DLC in less than 24 hours?

GTFO.  Lying doesn't help matters one way or the other.

The patch did not 'break' the game for you. I'm having no issues with it either, but there are definitely people having issues with the patch, so don't be too quick to brush complaints under the rug. I'd once again advise people to post their system specs as well as any mods they're using (if any), if you're having issues. Who knows - it may help BioWare narrow down what's causing some of these problems.

I don't know which thread would be best for reporting this information: this one or the one in the Announcement forum, but the more info the better.

Can we just get a fan-made "baldurdash" style fix-pack?  Those seem to
do the trick faster and more completely, especially for little bugs
like +healing effects and cross-bow issues.

Umm just load Combat Tweaks from Dragon Age Nexus. It fixes virtually all of the combat related bugs and does an amazing job of balancing the game (and making it much more difficult). But sadly I think patch v1.03 will break the mod at present. No matter I'll just pass on 1.03 for now. I can't ever imagine going back to buggy / carebear easy vanilla ever again.

Sorry, bad choice of words. That's not what I meant. English is not my native language so I beg everyone's forgiveness for not choosing the proper words at times ;)

I just thought it would be a slight disadvantage to install a patch that might provoke minor graphical problems if you don't actually have the problems its meant to fix.  It was not meant in an "Oh no you've ruined the game"-sense.

Right so the beginning and circle of magi was completed before patch, was still the major part of the game I played when having patch 1.03, only wanted to point out that the patch did not give me any issues because alot of people in the thread were giving the impression that the patch was actually harmful to the game.

You know you can save a lot of time by esc'ing thorugh dialogue and I know the entire game in and out by now... 24 hours, big deal, its probably doable in less, but it was still not supposed to be about bragging, only to back up my argument about not having issues with the game.

Patch loaded and all seems fine. Loading is faster, everyone is still fully dressed, RTO completed, Shale still in one piece and currently talking to me, the world has not ended and all thus far seems good.

this is what my Shale looks like now. Thx Bioware, thx
Image IPB

Just to clear a few things up. this occured ONLY after i installed the patch, Shale was normal and standing in the exact spot last time i checked, so obviously something wrong with the patch. Also i loaded my epilogue shale and she appears to be normal, don't know why though.

Apparently that was already a bug *prior* to this patch...

I've had that bug prior to this patch (I haven't applied 1.03 yet).

I confirm, Shale has always been like this in all my post Coronation saves!

Sorry for the confusion (nothing wrong with your English, by the way). That comment was actually directed at someone else.

Basically the stamina/magic meter of all my 4 party members appears empty, even though I can actually use active and sustained abilities without a fuss. Stamina and magic are certainly there, but I can't see them!

Same. Only new bug I've noticed so far...

I have an obscene amount of 3rd-party DLC (however, they are all rather minor changes except for CT v323 and all official DLC installed too, so I assume it has something to do with that...)

Yeah methinks there might be a conflict with CT v323. I got a similar thing when I tried. So I ended up rolling back to 1.02a for now. I can't play with out CT. The game is so much better with CT. No way I could cope with vanilla again. Eep.

Uggh .... s/he looks like a headless collapsed pile of bronze slag.

On the bright side ... you definitely can block doorways with him now.

That screenshot made me LOL. If your PC can do 1 thing, it's to play out the deadpan humor "silent pause."

I took a look at the 1.03 announcement thread in the other subforum. Wow... talk about shameless sucking up to Bioware. Just reading it made me embarassed.

I installed the 1.03 patch and haven't had any problems. It did interfere with one mod which let you adjust certain elements of the GUI because it changed the layout of the level-up pages, but that's not a biggie. I just disable the mod, and I'm good to go.

Warden's Keep, which I had completed and was using to store items, has disappeared. Levi is back in the camp and offering the quest again. When I took the quest, and went up to the keep, Levi was within the keep but nothing else was there. He offers the dialog which usually happens after the keep is completed. Reloading or leaving and coming back have not brought back Warden's Keep, or my box full of gear.
