There are not enough witty adjectives to describe the geeky coolness that is the archdemon cake. I love the blood spatter! I think you need a little lego warden up there driving the killing blow. I like the X's for the eyes, too - so campy!



Out of curiosity, what kind of dye did you use? I bought Wilton violet for the cookies, though like you I was hoping for something dark. Maybe if I tried a drop of red with the violet? Or maybe more blue? I'll have to experiment tomorrow before the final mix.

Thanks, guys! As I mentioned over on We Alistair, I had an unholy amount of fun making that cake. Hubby says that I now officially outrank him in geekitude. I beg to differ, but that's another thread entirely.

I think licorice babies will forever more be called "darkspawn" in my house. My kids kept grabbing them from the cake board, and hubby shouted, "No! Don't let them eat those! They'll be tainted!"

As for the food colouring, I haven't a clue about the brand name. I bought two types: regular and neon. I originally started out following the directions to make the deep purple with the regular food colouring, but it wasn't purple enough, so I threw caution to the wind and just tossed in any combination of blue, red, and neon violet. It worked out well, though I would have liked to get it a bit darker.

For the record, the cake is tainted...er, I mean chocolate, and the icing is butter cream.

The cake should have been red velvet. ;-) So that the archdemon bleeeeds when you cut it open. One of my friends did that for an armadillo groom's cake, and actually, the results were kind of disturbing. So maybe its good you didn't do that.

Hehehe...hubby suggested that next time, I should put a little baggy of red-coloured cornstarch in the archdemon's head, so when I serve it I can stab it with the "sword" and have "blood" spray everywhere.

Thanks, ladies! I'll tell you though - I used an entire tub of violet food coloring. That icing tastes so horrible, it really is like the taint. My girls keep begging me to let them eat a purple dragon and I won't even let them, it's so nasty! Now that the photos are done, to the trash they go.

Luckily, I thought ahead and used the rest of the dough to just make round sugar cookies with sprinkles. So I do have an alternative for them, anyhow!
