I heard a rumor that patch v1.05 will be a sheet of paper, a short pencil, and a 20-sided dice.

Seriously now, what's up with the spamming? The problems were summed up on the first 5 pages, why this thread continues?
I'm pretty sure BW is aware. Since you can't issue a recall over this, they don't fell the need to come out with public statements.
Yes, the patch borked things, but the spamfest on this thread doesn't help fixing the issues, in fact it just makes them worse! It's "Announcements" forum, I can't find the word "Whine" or "Complaint" there.
Some folks, like me, just use RSS to see if there are any news, but instead of seeing "Oh, there are no new posts, then there are no news yet", I see "There are 100 new posts with ZERO input to the problems or any news at all"!
Thanks for that DA:O community, I really had that spare time to go through all the needles posts made here!

Also, imagine BW trying now to sort out the mess (which is within the bounds of acceptable probability), they want to know what problems are present, or they want to notify the community of something important, they look at this thread (and the other one) and all they see is SPAM, no data on how to reproduce new issues if they were discovered, no place to post news (because most people who want news don't look at a thread with 300+ posts)!
If you feel the urge to whine about the patch then go to off-topic forum create a thread and put all your complaints there, and leave only the technical details about the bugs here or the support forum (preferably there). If you want to notify BW that you won't be buying Awakening, or that you have any other complaint that you want to express to them, then send them an e-mail.

<_<

I see where you are coming from with this but those of us who are playing on the XBOX have had 0 luck getting any responses from the Dev's on the large number of bugs we have in the Tech forum, I'm not sure completely sure about the PC forum as I dont read that too often.  Go and check out the XBOX tech forum though, let me know when you see any response from a Dev as regards to one of the many posters begging for just some sort of response, hell even a "we are working on x problem" or "x problem will never be fixed" would be awesome at this point.

I feel you pain. Even more so as a PS3 owner. Have you checked out the support in the PS3 teck forum by anychance? Good luck finding any at all there. I was also going to buy Awakenings becuase I love DA and it's a shame on bioware. This game should and could have been much better had they provided suppport.

I guess this is what happens when you sell out to EA. I guess I should have not been surprised but I got this game on a little faith. Shame on me!

I think not. Excellent question for Twitter  @dragonage AND @feliciaday (1,744,042 followers).  It was her recommendation that influenced my purchase. She loves this game.  #PatchPwnage

Yes, but only via uninstalling and reinstalling the game itself. Sorry.

Yeah, I know the PS3 tech forum is a ghost town as well.Truly a shame that the Bioware customer service is currently so weak for the consoles. My buddy has a PS3 and having played it I can say for sure that both versions of the game are excellent, not quite on the level of the PC but thats to be expected.  Hopefully we all get some answers soon.

I do not think the software industry's problem with communications can be blamed on their access to communicate. I think the problem is allot more fundamental than that. Image IPB

Regardless of your experience, most of this is just subjective opinion.  Bioware has been more fan friendly then most game companies I have seen...even their parent company, EA.  (anyone ever talk to a Madden developer?)  If you are experiencing problems, you tend to have a vested emotional interest in the situation that can cloud your objectivity.  That's from someone with 15+ years of professional IT experience, and 5+ years as a technical moderator in another developer's forum.

Anyway, the vocal minority always tend to bark loudest on internet forums anyway.  The other people that I know that play this game would never even post in a forum (or even know that one exists).  If they didn't like the game they would just move on to something else...

After all, this is just a piece of media or entertainment.  There is no rule that says they even NEED a forum to talk in.  Frankly, if I was running the show, I would have an official forum that was read only, with announcements.  They should actually be moderating this forum more tightly to get rid of spammers and Off Topic posting and ranting.

RE:  the support forums....

Guys and Gals...these forums are NOT official support.  That is handled via EA.  This is just a community supported forum.  Where tech savvy users can share info to help others get their games up and running.  The main point is the wade through all the "MY GAME WONT WORK!" posts to weed out 99% of the user errors and find the actual bugs/glitches.

Just saying that you shouldn't expect much developer support in this forum as I am sure Bioware does not have dedicated tech support people.

Technical Support is handled by the publisher, in this case EA (which also now owns Bioware).  If you want official support you have to contact EA directly via http://support.ea.com/.  Very rarily Bioware developers or qa people will venture into the forums to offer technical help, but the support forums are for the most part just for us users to help each other.

That is shame really, how can EA fix a bug if they are not the developers that programmed the game?

It is much easier for the creators to fix bugs because they know exactly what is involved in the game.

EA isn't supposed to fix the bugs.  Technical Support is the front line people who deal with the customers and  help them with their technical problems trying to run the game. (And lets not get into how effective they actually are at that) They then report to the developers (Bioware) the kinds of issues that people are calling in/emailing about, and then Bioware determines which bugs go into the next patch.  And I don't intend to say that Bioware is ignoring the forums, there is at least one person (Victor) reading the forums and reporting back the issues that come up here.  Its just the actual posting here related to technical problems that doesn't happen very much.

What Kepha outlined is how most major game developers work.  Major distributors (EA, Activision, Sega, etc.) buy up the smaller development studios (Bioware, Creative Assembly, Infinity Ward, etc.) as subsidaries.  The distributors have the funds and staff to handle marketing, front line tech support, publishing, etc. so the development studios can concentrate on the game development.  Tech support and QA testers are usually handled by the distributor.  Since only a small portion of the gaming public come to a game developers forum, most of the tech support calls are handled by EA and they will field the highest number of issues...which are then fed back to the distributor.

Whether you want to believe it or not, this forum is just a small slice of the millions of customers that purchased Bioware games.  So, when people moan about no one "listening", I find it ironic as I have had conversations with the head writer on DAO here on this very forum and most of the other writing staff and designers have been active posting.  That is very rare.  And, they have stated they do read the forums but the fact is that they can't possibly know all the various hardware/software configurations of every poster's system on here.  So, it is hardly a controlled test environment for troubleshooting.

Developers should not interact with the customers. Period. I deal with programmers etc, daily in my job,. and it's not a good idea for them to be doing Q/A. They have work to do. That and they can get a lil testy and are not known for their patience lol

I understand what you say but it is not a very good way to fix bugs quickly or even if they will ever be fixed.
It seems to me to be a roundabout way for developers finding out the bugs in the game, if they have to wait for people complaining to EA Technical Support and if the technical support think that a bug needs fixing and then reporting the bug to the developers.

I am sure that technical support will only try to fix the very bad bugs and leave all the small ones unreported.

It is all economics and supply/demand.  And, PC support is MUCH more difficult then consoles.  For consoles, the developers only have to beta test one hardware configuration.  For PC's, there are literally millions of hardware/driver/software combinations out there that they have to try and test on.  It has always been a daunting task (made easier by API's like DirectX).

Anywho, the complaints you have are part of doing business...to get a game with as high production values as DAO or Mass Effect, or even Baldur's Gate, you have to have the funds to pay the team.  And, having a distributor provides those funds and overhead that they otherwise wouldn't have.

More bug reports, some echoing others:

1. Stealing is hit and miss- steals cash and unique items, but not random things from commoners.
2. Random crashes- Will be running along using the W key and the program suddenly closes. Has mostly happened while exploring, not in combat.
3. Random lag- This usually happens in towns. The game will freeze up for about 2 seconds.
4. Dog's name selection does not appear the first time you get him- Must quit the program and restart to name him. tested with both mage and human noble origins.
5. Delayed effects- I updated the game right before the battle with the archdemon. Frame rate was fine, but effects were delayed. Damage, healing, death, all of it.

If I uninstall everything but keep my current characters, will this cause issues since they were used in 1.03? Will I have to start over?

So far no BioWare feedback in that thread, but I'm following it quite closely** and am hoping to get the devs to take a look at it. I'd urge anyone with issues with this patch to post them in that thread along with system specs (your rig's particulars, OS, etc. as well as any mods you may have installed). The more detailed feedback we can provide in one place, the better it will be and will hopefully help get a quick fix out for this patch.

**Note: I'm not a BioWare or EA employee. I have moderator powers in many of the forums, but I'm just a regular gamer like the rest of you.

I have downloaded the new patch 1.03.
Issues I’ve noticed.(Before and with 1.03) While loading scenes is not a problem for me I have noticed that the longer I play the game in one sitting the slower it takes to load a saved game. If I shut the game down and restart it any saved games loads quickly. But after playing for several hours saved games take a lot longer. This has not been fixed in the new patch.
I experienced my first crash for this game after instilling 1.03 while fighting the archdemon. It didn’t give me any reason or error code. The second time worked fine.
I have noticed in the past (with 1.02?) that in the camp site in the Brecilian forest two of the options didn’t correspond with their actions. It seemed that options were linked wrong. Has anybody noticed this and has it been fixed in 1.03?
Moderator: Sorry if this is the wrong place for this. You can move it if you need to.

Shades: no, it's not the wrong place. But I'd just suggest people (also) post in the other thread with system specs and as much info as possible. That way we can hopefully get the system/mod usage info, along with the 1.03 bug issues, all in one centralized location. Maybe it will help sort this out quicker.
