Hey fellow 1.03 patch haters, admins/mods and whoever else is reading this thread,
I bought DA:A yesterday with the intent of playing through DA:O as a Dwarven Noble rogue, then importing the character into DA:A after for high level epic goodness . Right off the bat I noticed the pickpocketing issue. Not only was I not getting items/phat lewt/coin but the sound clip for pickpocketing was gone as well. I figured it was a simple matter to fix, I checked online, sure I was alone in this....until I saw this and many other threads.
To be honest I was pretty upset. I'm in Canada and paid a hefty 50$ for this expansion, more than I would have spent on just about any other franchise, but I was (and still am) hugely impressed with DA as a whole. A decent buck paid for a decent game. It's only fair. But not when stuff like this happens. It's simply infuriating. Now that being said I'm not going to complain but try to look at this from a logical pov on both sides:
1)
"Bioware is not replying to posts and have abandoned us in our hour of need etc." issue
Now I'm just guessing at this point -but- I'd say that Bioware has to fully gauge the extent of the issues with the 1.03 patch before they can reply with any certainty as to what their course of action or general timeframe will be. I believe they are looking over posts/testing DA to make a list of what is what. Looking at previous patches they seem to have been released at 1 month intervals give or take. Its been a week since 1.03 was released so another 3-4 weeks for a patch would seem a fair guess. Different platforms require different programming and Bioware has to cater to all of them. I'm not sure how their QA is done but I imagine they'd rather do it slow and properly than fast and sloppy. Just like anything else.
2)
"Issues that aren't relevant to the 1.03 patch" issue
Again noticing a trend on the posts where certain "issues" turn out to be in-game events, due to mods, or even improperly installed patches (pre 1.03 naturally). Make sure you got no mods running, try to reload said game file and test issue again, reboot your computer, check game events, roll back to a previous patch (if available for your game) if all else fails try a fresh re-install. Also best way to look for accurate information on bugs is directly from the horses mouth i.e Bioware forums.
3)
"Issues that still need addressing, even with newest patch etc." issue
It really depends on how severe the issues are, I mean (again just guessing here) if its not game breaking, if it occurs semi-rarely, if it's something that can semi-easily be avoided and doesn't detract from your gaming experience, then it's likely not a 1# priority for Bioware. They do care about any concerns we gamers have regarding their product even if they don't reply immediately though. Essentially they tackle the big stuff first and then work their way down the ladder. Look at NWN 2 for example (not a Bioware game and made from a "sister" company, but a point of reference nonetheless) They had -many- bugs with their game, some potentially gamebreaking. They worked on the biggest, most troublesome ones first (Crypt crash, area transfer freeze-ups) and then balance issues, spell fixes etc. months down the line. Ideally a good patch has a couple of major fixes and several smaller cosmetic/balance ones and i think that's what we will see given time.
4)
"But what do I the meantime while waiting for a new ____ _____ thing_____ ______ of a _____ game patch?" issue
Well if you are willing to overlook the flaws and glitches and frustrations associated with the patch number that shall not be mentioned again...ever O_o.....Then the vast majority of the game and its expansion can still be enjoyed. Personally I'm going to roll back to 1.02 and play through that way, if only because I am playing a rogue and I need access to my gaudy baubles and glittery precioussssesssss...

If it's really upsetting try to play another game for time and then come back to DA (and by another game I do mean a -Bioware- game naturally) I'm sure there's paths or characters in Mass Effect 1/2, Jade Empire, NWN 1 etc. that are itching to be tried out. When it comes down to it, it doesn't serve anyone to be POed and really there's better ways to spend your time than tearing into an innocent admin/mod/Bioware employee. "Stuff happens" within the gaming world and without.
5)
"Who are you? And what makes so such an expert on this matter? WWBD?" issue
Me? Just a gamer who has been around for awhile and been a Bioware fan from back when they first released Baldurs Gate. I don't work for Bioware and I'm not an admin, actually this is my first post ever here. If I'm preachy, well I don't mean to be, everything here is just guess-work and IMHO based thoughts. I actually made this post while waiting for the "Stone Prisoner" mod to download haha. Chalk it up to having an idle mind (Which is much more dangerous than having idle hands btw)
What is WWBD? It's "What would Bioware do?" Well if I were them...for an issue that's very widespread, pretty irritating, aggravating....If it were feasible I might give customers a little bit of a rebate (it's not) or maybe a free mod download ( -very- unfeasible and probably greedy of me to suggest) but I -do- have a suggestion for anyone from Bioware patient enough to read through my ramblings. A patch is great and it's a given that it's coming (thank you in advance for the work that will go into it)...What about a free item to download?
It would be something available and usable by any class, a universally useful item. It couldn't be a weapon, or a chest piece etc. I'm thinking a hat (not a helm):
(Armor)
Babotto's ChagrinType: Light Helm
Set: n/a
Material: Drakeskin
Requires: Int 12, Cun 12
Stats: +3 Armor
- 3 Cunning
- 5 Mental resistance
+ 5 Ice resistance
Location: available at the start
Quests; n/a
Value: 1 gold 0 silver 3 copper
Description: A series of gaudy stars and moons cover this ill fitting cowl. It was enchanted by the twice cursed Shapeshifter Babotto as he sought a Dalish ruin in the desolate South. It was of use against the cold and ice wights that assaulted him on his journey, this was true, but was of little use when he accidentally marched off a cliff during a fierce snow storm...
