@Daerdor

Make sure there are no programs running in the background that might hinder the game too.

I'm wondering too if some issues can be averted by system maintenance. Disk cleanup, defragment. I wouldn't recommend using a registry cleaner ith vista/7 unless you know exactly what you're doing. (Yes, I didn't know what I was doing, had to reformat a HD.. not fun) But sorry Daerdor, most of the posts I saw about resolution were 1900+ so I don't think that would help you.

True, some internet security suites are AWFUL. Zone Alarm and Norton are two of the worst if you game.  Some of your windows programs run on a schedule too. They can mess up full screen programs.

Yep!! DA:O has crashed on me twice due to scheduled events from Norton Antivirus. This was right after installing patch 1.02. Never crashed otherwise and I game in 1900x1200 res w max settings.

Just a quick update on the stealing fix: tried it with Carrla's mod (Stealing Cooldown Reduced) and it did not work. I've included an updated version of it in the project as an optional download. Sorry if I'm spamming the link- this bug irritated me.

The updated version with my fix is in the files of my project, as one neat little package. I think the original is on the 2nd page of all projects. Or you could just type "steal" in the project search bar. Only a few things come up.

Sure. Btw, has anyone heard about a list of changes for the patch yet? Some people keep mentioning mana clash makes their game clash. Can anyone give me specifics? If they changed spells, they could have made a while loop go bad. (you should see some of the spell scripts those knuckle heads over at Obsidian did for nwn2) Is it a specific spell or talent making you crash? I can't do much about lag, but if it's fixable through scripting I'll give it a shot.

Tanks for this mod, it works fine for the steal, but the "dog loot" is still broken: no item in my inventory when the dog find something.

Anyway, it a good thing a community member has find a fix to this bug.

What a pity Bioware can't manage to find the corrupted lines, do they have search indeed?

First time I've seen someone mention the dog bug. I'll take a look. Heh, it may even be in the same script. Wouldn't that be nice? :P

Edit: I need more information, as I haven't been playing much. Been watching the forums and gathering intel. What exactly does it do? IE will it bring you a piece of wood or other unique item but not random things? Brings nothing at all? I kind of hope they fix the dog's approval meter. If you're mean to a dog, it can turn on you.

I've try with your mod, but my dog still brings me nothing when he find something, surely not too difficult for you to fix this? More thanks if it's the case

Well, if the dogs brings unique item likes the gifts (piece of cake, pants,...), common objects (plants,...) are not added in my inventory

Sorry, that's not very clear. Or I haven't had enough coffee, take your pick. Are you saying if you get a unique item you no longer get common items? Or that you get nothing at all?

no no, dog  manage to bring me rarefull items, and I receive them well in my packages : the message is given in the top of the screen  & near the shortcut bar.It work for the pants, the bones or the cake (all are considered as the gifts) IE
But for common and random items such as plants, even if the dog find some, I still got the message "Dogs brings you an item" in the top of the screen (while the dog is shown), but no message  near the  shortcutbar, where usually it is said when you earn money(with the amount), when you pick up something,...in this case, nothing in my package.

I'm a alone to have this bug?before the 1.03, never had such problems

It's done that before and given items. This usually happens for me with stackables. I've gone in the inventory and searched. The item it gave another of will be highlighted, assuming you've moused over everything already. Are you sure you're not getting common items?

Sure at 100%, nothing added without hte bottom message.only got the message that my dog find something, but no message that an item is added, and as I check in my package, I see nothing more than I have before : no highlighted item.
Seems it is broken beetween the message "Dog find and bring you something" and the one after that I should get "Item received" which doesn't appear in the case of common and random loot.

So far, I'm not seeing anything that relates to the dog in any of the include or core scripts. If anyone knows what resource file the dog scripts are in, that'd be wonderful. I bet they just need to be recompiled.

I won't be buying Awakening. I'm sick of bad support when it comes to gaming and entertainment. In the USA there is a recession so Bioware fix your problem or forget my money. If more people did this we wouldn't have these problems

@ Surango & LordFess

Thanks for the replies. My system is well maintained ... perhaps too well maintained  :)
Thing is that besides patch 1.03 nothing was changed on a software level and that's when the crashes started. Reliability Monitor plummeted from 10 to 4 since the install. I'll try disabling some more background processes to see if that has an influence on the crash frequency.

20thcenturyghost brought up an interesting point in a different thread. This game was originally deigned on DirectX 9. Yet Win7 and Vista run on DX10 (I think 11 for ultimate). have you tried installing the end user runtimes? www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx

Instructions:

Make a folder and call it DX on your desktop.
Download the file, when you run it, it asks for a destination path to extract the files. Use the folder you just made.
Go into the DX folder and find the setup utility and follow its instructions from there.

It doesn't say you have to restart afterward, but it's probably a good idea to do so either way. When you're done, you may delete the DX folder.

edit: if you need to find out what version of DirextX is on your computer, go to Help and Support from your star menu and type in directx and you'll see a link that says. "What version of DirectX is on your computer?" Let this run a diagnostic and you'll know for sure. If you let it connect to the internet, it says it will also check your drivers.
