I am shocked at how many people are having problems, I have Intel E8400 chip, 6gigs of DDR2 mem, 500 gigs hd 7200 rpm, 5770 ATI v-card, win7 Ult and game is running flawlessly. I came to forums to check on how I can mod ME2, and by accident came to here to read all this. I am just speechless, hope they come out with a fix for u all. BTW I am playing the game almost since release.

I am in tears. I begged, asked nice, posted my system and nothing. Now it is broken and I can not play at all.
The game emits a high pitched squeal that will not stop. I downloaded the lastest drivers and did everything anyone recommended but no luck. Desperate I reloaded the game. I still get the squeal but now everything is gone. All my dlc and everything. I HATE YOU!
Please, please someone help me. How do I get that d*** 1.03 patch and awakenings off my computer so I can have my old working game back? I need step by step instructions. please.

Is the high pitched squeal coming out a speaker, or just the computer in general?

Of course the game is running flawlessly for you, your machine is significantly more powerful than a lot of the systems I've seen posted (mine included, of course).

I apologize I was tired and upset last night. I posted this originally in the crashes thread with my specs. My computer is brand new. When I start the game and it gets to the menu (screen with battle scene and load options) the computer begins whining.
This started only after I installed patch 1.03 and at first it would only happen during special effects graphics during a battle (magic cast or a bomb). I would turn my screen off and back on and it would go away. Sometimes I would have to scroll out before turning the screen off to make it work. I had stopped playing for a while waiting for a fix.
Last night I started playing and was doing warden's keep when it started during a battle and never stopped no matter what. That was when out of frustration I uninstalled from awakenings disk and reinstalled from DA:O. It is still doing it as I described at the top. My system is as follows
Processor: Intel core i7
clock speed 2785 mkz
Display adapter: ATI Radeon HD 5700 series
Sound Adapter: speakers Realtek High Def Audio
Driver Version 6.0.1.5953
Operating system: Microsoft win 7 64 home prem
Direct x version: X11
physical Memory : 7.96 GB
Vram: 1GB
Please I do not know how to remove the patch.

Have you tried backing up your saves and uninstalling the game and then installing again without the 1.3 patch?

If computer is making the squeeling noise, its usually a result of dust getting in the fans bearings or something.
When the computer is under load, the fans are normally set to speed up to cool the computer, which can trigger squeeling noises if there's dust inside the, or they are rubbing up gainst their housing or a wire.
There's usually no easy way to get them to stop. Again i'm assuming this is the cause of squeeling based on my own experiences, it could be something i'm unfamiliar with. If you can figure out which fan is making the squeels u can replace it and/or try cleaning it (force air cans or something - make sure comp is off and unplugged, as the vapor is very cold and can create condensation that will short some ciruit boards). If the dust thats causing it is inside the bearings, theres not really much u can do other than replace it.
U also might want to check your video card, and make sure the plastic film that is normally ontop of the card has been peeled off. I forgot to do that once
U can try talking to your vendor to see if the replacement part/service is covered under warranty.
U can probably have someone like geeksquad do it to, but the'll charge a bit. Just put your ear around thecomputer first and see if u can figure out where its coming from....e.g. a particular fan, or is it from somewhere else.
u may have only noticed these problems since patch 1.03, but that doesn't mean the patch per se is causing them - there's nothing that patch should be capable of doing to cause the squeel, other than giving your CPU inefficient code that makes it work harder. Your comp should be able to run at max load 24/7 w/o squeel, so you might as well get fixed now well potentially under warranty. Because if not Dragon Age, something else will come along to push your CPU to similar loads.

Okay I think I found it. I unplugged everything, opened the computer up and reset it all. As I was plugging in I noticed my surge protector converted to battery backup once everything was plugged in and game booted. It sits directly behind the computer.
It did it on another game that draws alot of power when I tried it. It was overloading the outlet. The whine was because it could not draw enough power. Once I reload everything I will try again. Cross your fingers. If this was the cause, then BIOWARE I'LL OWE YOU AN APOLOGY.

Glad to hear it resolved, not quite sure how. Never had anything squeel from my compuer than fans.
Just tell u what i know, i'm a bit of an overlocker hobbyist. I'm running an i7 likes yours at 4.3ghz (don't try w/lo liquid cooling) Inefficiency at drawing power leads to hotter components, which in turn can change how much u'r cooling systems work. And on systems i had in the past, its always been the fans....
But if its no problem under load now, then i guess u'r fine either way.

How do you get the patch for the xbox360? I dont see a patch in the available DLC

I owe Bioware an apology. Thank all of you for the help, but it seems the culprit was my electrical outlet. It went bad and was messing with my surge protector that was located behind the computer. The high pitch whine was battery power kicking in and out as the power flow was fluctuating.
I am so embarrassed that I jumped to such a wrong conclusion. The timing of it and my personal lack of knowledge when it comes to computers is really my only defense. I apologize.

I Never post but this makes me saddens me. I always stickup for Bioware but looking at all these problems with Mass Effect 2 and now this patch I am just upset. I am in college looking to be a game designer and I really want to work for Bioware but I would feel horrible if I made an awesome game and then no one could play it cause of constant bugs going on.
I DL'd a bunch of mods and none of them are working and spells are acting up. In the Fade I was unable to collect essences. I am just afraid to play the game right now because of all the random stuff not working.
Please please Bioware don't let us down. Don't let the EA poison you!

I am also having the pick pocket problem. Worked fine in the unpatched version of the game. Also could someone point me towards the dialogue fixes? Wouldn't mind getting them sorted.
Cheers,

So... my content decided that I'm no longer authorized to use it. Just downloaded that 1.03 patch. What's up?
I've got the Collector's Edition, I can't find the disc at the moment, so I used the EA download manager to get a digital copy, used the CD key from my CE manual, and now all the content except the Lucky Stone is unauthorized. And yes, I am logged in.
That was the first thing I checked. I tried logging out and back in, too. Gonna shoot off an email to EA's tech support I guess, see if they can't fix it. I tried googling up some stuff, forcing the Dragon Age Content Updater to run, but that didn't do anything. Bah. Right now I'm uninstalling and reinstalling, and seeing if my content is authorized at the base version, then gonna try updating to 1.02a and check again.
The file EACore_App.ini is causing some trouble too. I hope you guys are working on fixing all this.

I manage to DL the patch and installed it after my patience wore thin with the long loading time... Ran it, Installed it, success... Played the game, fast loading screen (Yahoo!). But I seem to have a problem with the stamina of my characters... whenever I engage enemies, they will just stand there and Block/Dodge the attakcks... Can anyone tell me whats wrong?

Oh yeah... I decided to create a new game... When i was at the character creation... There was nothing there, the character (model) isnt visible... I choose different presets/hair/face/etc but nothing came out... Its kinda frustrating really... Im trying to check any possible solution before i decide to totally uninstall everything and revert to the original patch... @!$!%$2 slow loading screen... 2-4minutes... >.> waste of money tbh, makes me sad i was waiting on this game for a long time...

And still the answer is re-install a clean copy, then find patch 1.02a on a satellite site and use it. Forget about playing Awakening until they release the next patch to fix the last patch.
I can't believe this patch is even still a topic.
It's been months, BioWare. Months. You've known that 1.03 is garbage. Keep churing out that DLC "What if you were a Darkspawn" crap. I'm not buying it and I'm not buying DA 2 unless you actually respect the customers who bought your original product by servicing it.
The original product is good. I still play it. But if you muck it up and don't even MENTION that you're working on a fix then I'll stop buying expansions and sequels and possibly even BioWare and EA products altogether.

Reinstalled the game, updated to 1.02a, works fine atm. Loading time seems to be a bit shorter than the original patch, sad bioware isnt trying to do anything bout it, seems like theyre just in it for the money... DA:O is a great game, just bugged... Hope they come up with a better patch.
