What impressed me the most about DOA was how solid it was out of the box.I never had crashes my first playthrew, and the loading time bug took several hrs for me to show up so i just reloaded the game every 3-4 hrs when playing long sesions.
But...each patch made things a lil more unstable and crashes started appearing culminating in this patch.
I bought Awakinings on preorder, started playing soon as I got it.After several months I'm still only 30 mins into it as i gave up due to the crashes every 1-5 mins.
Now they have some new DLC which looks cool and i would like to get it,but whats the point.Until they fix whatever they broke trying to fix stuff..the games unplayable to me.

Core 2 quad 9550, Radeon 4870x2, 2x 320 gig HD on raid 0, 8 gig DDR3 1333 Dual Channel, SB X-Fi sound, Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Realy hope they get around to fixing this,I been a big fan of Biowear since Bulders Gate and its a real shame not to be able to play an otherwise excelent game.

Rant incoming:

I registered just to post my discontent with EA. 2 months and not 1 single reply in this thread from a dev with any status updates or anything of the like? This is "the thread" that people are watching isn't it? Oh, the shame!

I'm a self proclaimed computer nerd running various OS's from the BSD's to Winbloze and I can confirm that patch 1.03 is a royal piece of ****!

In the event that anyone is wondering...all the above poster's problems are FOR REAL. Stealing, CTD's, lag...you name it exists!

The straw that broke the camels back for me was when I was suppose to go into the cave (or mine) and I still had my inventory....after clearing the place...and missing some equipment........I came to the forums to see what's up only to discover a bug...and now I'm outta saves..and my character that I've been using through DA:O and DA:A is TOAST because his hard earned equipment is gone.

Tested on Winbloze Vista (32-bit), Winbloze XP (32-bit), Winbloze 7 (64-bit), and Ubuntu (64-bit) via wine. All exhibit the same ****ing problem. (I don't expect Ubuntu to be supported)

Quite frankly, 1.02b worked *better* than 1.03....at least I didn't have random CTD's every 20 minutes!

Specifically to EA: Do realize that people are installing and patching their game to 1.02b and aren't touching 1.03. This to you means loss revenue because those people enjoy having a working game, not the piece of **** that exists as it is now. That means no DA:A, and no future DLC's that require patch 1.03.

I think I speak for the majority of people that have been waiting for over 2 months now for a patch when I say..."EA, go **** yourselves."

I would really be happy if they just fixed the 100% CPU load problem that has been around since the Character Creator was released. As it stands now DA:O puts so much strain on my CPU (read: about 4C higher than Crysis) that I'm not willing to risk my hardware to play it anymore. I would be more than happy to buy the new DLC, but I'm not bricking my CPU due to this issue (and yes I do have adequate cooling).

So, again, EA/Bioware is losing money by not fixing this or even admitting that it is a known issue. I mean come on this has been around for nearly a year.

Huge rant,
Hopefully EA or bioware actually read this forum

Less than three, I can't really begin to comprehend how much time you have put into this and prove that they have made a defective product, I am currently in half a mind to start trying to get my money back for DAO:A as it cost me £20 and well... hasn't worked at all for more than 30 minutes at a time (and that was a a one off miracle), now the game crashes in about 30 seconds. Well I have no idea what EA are playing at and i have no intention of purchasing any other games from them for a while if this is the level of support they give their customers, also it seems like they need ot rethink their business plan if they want us to buy their DLC.

Just my opinion, theyre using crappy marketting strategies in making crappy games and forcing their consumers to pay for their DLC...

Who ever rated DA:O/A as best game ever had either been paid or duped into making DA a great game when in fact its full of crappy bugs...

Ammoless,

I'm with you. They don't give a rats ass about you...or me...or Rocketfingers...etc. The bottom line for them is the dollar and so long as people are stupid enough to continually support them via DLC's and expansions, then providing a patch in a speedy manner is not their priority as it's "not revenue" for them. This is all EA's doing being a publisher. I had no problems with the BioWare of ole...but EA sucks big time.

Rocketfingers,

I was going to mention this too, but didn't feel like adding more negative comments to something that was already pretty negative. Certainly the ones that provided those reviews lost a huge amount of credibility in my eyes.

Oh, and for the record....I very much liked DA:O PRIOR to 1.03. I thought it was stellar and was willing to put up with the minor inconveniences (read: bugs) it had. I even purchased a couple of DLC's I thouroughly enjoy. 1.03 though is complete garbage and I will not purchase awakenings or any other DLC until at the very least 1.03 is scrapped with something that works. What irks me the most is the lack of response from someone QUALIFIED (i.e. a dev)....for the past *2* months now in *the thread* where everyone is ****ing. Where's the acknowlegement....or apologies (yeah right).

On another quick note...I emailed EA tech support something like 2 or 3 days ago and have yet to receive any response.

Anyway, said my piece. Good gaming everyone, and hope for our sake the game gets fixed soon.

I am having a problem with the game crashing regularly. How can I fix this? I am running the following.

AMD Phenom 3Core Processor
8GB RAM
Radeon HD 4600 1GB RAM
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum

I am playing a warrior and I am at the point of cleaning out the Mage tower and I get to the second part after entering and talking to the Tranquil Store room guy and after leaving that area, I defeat the first 2 waves of abominations and the game just suddenly crashes for no reason. It is getting frustrating and annoying. Oh and Im running Windows 7 Home Premium. Please help?

Also, I have the latest Direct X version and all drivers are up to date as of the date of this post.  And Windows is also up to date with all the updates to date.  I am at a loss as to what to do about this.

Seems like every system has it's own bugs and shared bugs, for pc and ps3 it's the constant crashing, for xbox and ps3 it's the lack of any real fixes, I mean in seven months we can't even get a small tweak to fix dex....WTF. Even with the crashes I'm jealous of pc users because they can at least get the fixes made by others, but the overall lack of any real support for this game is what annoys me most of all.

It seems like all the resources are being used to market t-shirts, hats, and the next dlc, not to mention sequels to this and ME and their MMO, and no attention is being given to actually fixing the game. Sadly, many people will still blindly buy up everything tossed their way, t-shirts, letter openers, dlc, whatever they put out, which only reinforces their sh*tty support practices because they can still make a lot of money while doing f*ck all to fix the game.

Like many other people I'm past my breaking point with this game, it could've been great, but the amount of bugs and lack of fixes completely take away from the overall experience. In the end their quick little cash grabs will come back to haunt them, when long time fans like myself have no faith left in them and will not be buying any more games or dlc, the casual gamer will have moved on, and their hardcore fans will not support them because of the big FU they've given us. I was really hoping it would take longer for EA to ruin Bioware, but sadly I was wrong, it's started already and as far as I can tell it's gonna be all downhill from here.

For what it's worth, DjinnGuru suggest I set the affinity of the DragonAge process to a single core. I was skeptical but tried it anyway. I'm glad to report I experienced 1 crash within 4-5 hours of gameplay. This isn't "a fix" by all means, but does seem to work around the problem. The caveat is you must have a PC version of the game hope that one cpu is enough to run the game. The core running my game is 2.4ghz and it seems like it's enough (only small pauses occasionally).

Why is Bioware being so quiet about the next patch? We need some reassurances.

They're being quiet because there is no next patch, unless it is just a sh*tty little thing to make their next DLC work. They haven't given us a real patch in almost 8 months, and I really doubt they'd start now. They only say that they're working on a patch when it comes time to push the latest dlc or contest they want us for, other than that they avoid these forums like the plague. There have been major bugs with this game for 8 months and not a single one has been addressed, what did we get in terms of fixes? Achievements not working properly were fixed, (which many people could care less about when it's compared to the other bugs), oh, and the ranger's pet having the wrong portrait in camp was fixed.....much more important than a main f*cking stat working properly which can be fixed with a minor tweak.
I've given up on this game, and on Bioware all together, EA has succeeded in ruining yet another company's reputation for a few quick bucks. I'm guessing that after ME3 and ToR Bioware will be stripped down and sold off, since they will both fail horribly with EA's sh*t attitude about supporting their games.

Don't take it as if I was saying that DA:O doesn't need a patch - yes, there are many problems that really need to get fixed - but the fact that you are not willing to risk playing it because it strains your CPU too much shows that you should be more concerned about proper cooling of your PC. If playing a game pushes your CPU outside it's thermal envelope, then things like rendering a movie in Adobe Premiere all night long would send your processor to an early grave.

This is a sheer nonsense. The game doesn't make direct access to your hard-drive. It hands the request to the system and the system kernel then accesses the drive using the device's driver.
