I played Paragon and I still destroyed the Geth. I mean seriously, how many people did they kill? I'm not just gonna reprogram the main enemy from ME1 just so the reapers can upload a virus again.

I was specifically referring to his proposed "Turing Test" and the variants that AI researchers have proposed, as it is a great starting point for any AI discussions. Most sci-fi readers have only casual knowledge on this topic and would likely enjoy the real stuff.

First off op, it sounds like you're speaking from a biased position. I'm organic but I don't believe I have a soul. This could quickly devolve into a discussion about religion, and that isn't your intent, right?

If all beings were synthetic, and the synthetics build organics, They think they have souls and are very very real beings. And we'd be called "machines" and if they try to kill all of us. Genocide.. Same thing. Different compositions.

OP and the other posters who say Geth aren't real people.

You're just saying that you're prejudice whether you think you are or not.

And also, If they just adapt to their surroundings... That kinda sounds like every other living being out there.

Everything living adapts to surroundings... A great example is, that if you were raised in a dark cold cave your whole life, you'd end up being abnormally hairy and sensitive to light

The vast majority of people who anthropomorphize the geth do so out of a desire for wish fulfillment, I think. That or a simple "robots are cool!" The most pathetic but thankfully the most rare cases are those who favor the geth out of loyalty to HK-47. You can spot them because they constantly use the word meatbag when talking about organic species.

sentience is quantifiable. a "soul" and anything else born of faith is not, by definition. the "are geth people" question is the ethical dilemma the quarians face. define what a person is and unless you're a hardcore eugenicist, geth are people.

Spot on. It's called conscientiousness. They are aware that they exist, no soul is needed to acheive this.
