And you started the game with all of that right?  Oh wait no you didn't, you had to build up to it.  Sure item drops become pointless once you have the top gear, but it takes you 2-3 play throughs to equip everyone like that.  It gave you a reason to do multiple play throughs of the game with the same char, something that is lacking in ME2.

It doesn't take two to three playthroughs to do it. You're almost completely there before you finish one. It does take you into the second playthrough to completely max out but the last few steps are very incremental. You basically only need to do them to be able to say you have the absolute best stuff in the game.

You could get 57 doing all of the side quests and BDtS expansion in one playthrough. That's after gaining all exp bonuses.

The amount of loot seems fixed in this game and I would love dlc with at least one broad area of re spawning enemies providing some level grinding fun.

I was 48 when I finished my first playthrough, not much slowing down I could have done.

Did you have the dlc? That helps.

It is possible as long as you get all store discounts first and do all N7 missions before the end game. Just have to keep an eye out for the cash.
