I just finished my first play through of Dragon Age on the Xbox 360. It took me 10 weeks and 60 hours.  I played as a human noble female warrior, and I romanced Alistair.

1. Morrigan = Kreia (KOTOR II).  She never likes anything you do if you're playing light side/paragon/open palm and you're stuck with her forEEEEVER before you really get to replace for her good with Wynne as your main mage. Esp if you do Redcliffe first.

2. Sten = Worf. From Star Trek. Don't deny it.  STEN IS WORF.

3. Zevran. Oh my, I had some mixed feelings about Zevran throughout the game.  First...I HAAATED him. Not because of his personality. Oh no.  Because I got him right before Haven and decided to take him with me there...you know, Haven, that you can't back out of once you get there? He's a rogue, right?  Well he didn't mention he's a rogue that can't pick locks!  All throughout Haven all I heard was "Maybe I can try that for you?....No, tis impossible." RRRRRRGH.

I actually liked him as a character.  I romanced him (kinda accidently...I noticed that his approval shot down when I told him not to flirt with me, so I reloaded and let him, not realizing this put you on the path to romance kinda by default) and when he finally came up to me to tell me I needed to choose between him and Alistair, and I chose Alistair, I swear his face looked slightly hurt. Ouch.

4. Get out of my way, Wynne! I swear, every time I meant to click on something sparkly, she was right there in front of it, and I would get her instead, saying "What can I help you with, my dear?" or whatever.  And once, right in the middle of the werewolf lair, I accidently clicked on her and she started laying into me about my relationship with Alistair. I really wish there was a "Can we save this until camp?" option.

5. I think the dark ritual with Morrigan and Alistair might have looked slightly better if they'd both looked a bit queasy about it.  Alistair looked like he was going to throw up, but Morrigan looked way too excited for someone that seemed basically disgusted by him the entire time. Maybe Morrigan was harboring feelings we don't want to know about....after all, she has to have known from the very beginning that she stood a large chance of boinking Alistair. She says in that conversation that she knew about the Grey Warden requirements and the ritual before Riordan tells us.

6. The Captured! plot line just pre-landsmeet is completely awesome if you take the armor and just bounce around like a new recruit. OMG. so much fun.

7. Where was Shale in the epilogue? I talked to everyone but her.  I couldn't find my dog either.

8. I found the Fade and the Deep roads really taxing, because you go for a looooong time hack and slashing in both of them with little to no plot movement.  Those were the ones that took me days or weeks to finish, because I'd only play for less than an hour at a time before I'd just be done.

9. As always, the party banter was hilarious. I found myself running up and down that bridge in Orzammar, swtiching out party members, just so I could hear them. Ha!

10. I've seen a lot of people talk about the PC version approval ratings as being +71, love, adore, care, etc.  Is there a way to see how many approval points one has on the Xbox version? All I saw was the bar at the bottom, but no way to access it and get more details.

11. Is there a way to talk to Alistair about marrying him while making him king before you do it? It felt really weird when I did it at the Landsmeet.  I was just like "Alistair will be king, and I will rule with him." And even Alistair is like "Um, am I in a weird dream? Am I about to discover I have no clothes on and all the kids are laughing at me?"

12. The animation for the melee death of the archdemon, as performed by my grey warden, was AWESOME.

13. I know I definitely missed a lot.  Master Ignacio was a complete mystery to me. I kept clicking on him and being like "What do you want? Your name is in red, I know you do something!" It was only after I finished and looked it up on DA wiki that I figured out what I missed. I'm sure he's only one of many side quests and things that I didn't discover or couldn't do.

14. Does it actually matter whether or not you put coins/gems/runes/crafts in the allied boxes? Does it make any difference when the time comes to use your armies at the end?

15. Looking forward to replaying it! Next time: Female, City Elf, Rogue, romancing Zevran.

Totally loved this game. It has been sooooo long since I have played a brand shiny new sparkling RPG.  I've been replaying KOTOR and JE for years, and I'd almost forgotten how fun the discovery process of a new game is.

4. lol I know what you mean about Wynne, she does seem to get in the way and I always seem to click on her by mistake.

5. I think Morrigan's just excited about the prospect of a god baby.

7. I think Shale's only in the epilogue at friendly and if you've done her quest, Iam not sure. And dog never gets mentioned.

11. Nope Alistair will never ask you to marry him. And you can only ask at Landsmeet.

14. Yes it does, it makes them last longer and do more damage.

Yeah this game is the best, I still love playing it and Iam on my 3rd playthrough. Want to play at least 3 more times then some more to get other achievements.

Sad Zevran is sad!  No way to get around it.  First time my PC had a fling with him, same thing happened- I felt like a heel because he looked so sad and I hadn't expected that.  Zevran is a dex/melee rogue, BTW, so his lockpick needs to be brought up to speed through cunning points + deft hands, if you plan to use him as your cunning rogue.  If your PC is a cunning-based rogue, it makes a great combination because you can let him be his naturally awesome slicing-dicing assassin self.

7. Where was Shale in the epilogue? I talked to everyone but her.  I couldn't find my dog either.

Shale should have been there.  Dog is there (hanging out with Sten, of course), but not interactable.  Outrage!

8. I found the Fade and the Deep roads really taxing, because you go for a looooong time hack and slashing in both of them with little to no plot movement.  Those were the ones that took me days or weeks to finish, because I'd only play for less than an hour at a time before I'd just be done.

Very common sentiments.  I take Orzammar in pieces because if you do it all at once, you feel like you're never going to get out of there.  I guess that is how it should feel, going into the Deep Roads.

11. Is there a way to talk to Alistair about marrying him while making him king before you do it? It felt really weird when I did it at the Landsmeet.

Nope.  The closest you get is saying that you're going to stay together no matter what.

14. Does it actually matter whether or not you put coins/gems/runes/crafts in the allied boxes? Does it make any difference when the time comes to use your armies at the end?

Rumor has it that it does slightly improve the quality of your ending armies, but in my experience it's mainly for XP.  Like for when you just have to have that Arrow of Slaying or Mana Clash and can't quite get there, you can go to the Dalish camp and buy unlimited elfroots and dump them in.

15. Looking forward to replaying it! Next time: Female, City Elf, Rogue, romancing Zevran.

You are in for a treat!

Re 14: Good to know. I did Orzammar last this time, and so had no idea what they'd be requesting was gems. So I spent my entire game selling every single gem, only to get to the camp like 3 hours before the game ended and have the dwarven representative be like "Feel free to give us gems!" Ooops.

Also, do you always only have 12 mages for your army, whereas all the others are at 50? My mages went down in about 5 seconds, btw. They were totally useless at the stage I'd picked them for (outside the tower). Blah.

You only get 16 templars. And really, I never donate to the armies.

And yes, the Zevran romance is quite beautifully done. You should enjoy it.

City Elf female is far and away my favourite origin. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. And Zevran is the perfect love interest for that origin. Two rogues in one party just means more backstabbing goodness.

ejoslin's Zevran faq is a great resource, btw!

Heh. I chose my next origin deliberately so that I could be the best possible match for Zevran. Also, wandering around the Alienage got me interested in what goes on in the prologue. Especially since Venasomethingsomething mentioned that he knew Duncan and Duncan was a good friend, give more of a realistic hit to the fact that since Duncan was at Highever, he WASN'T at the Alienage saving that person, and she/he died.

Speaking of the Alienage, man, I had NO idea that I was supposed to protect Templar Otto through that orphanage. I got all the way to the end -- and NOTHING happened -- so I went out the door and checked my completed quests and it says something like "Ser Otto did not survive. Whatever secrets the orphanage may hold have died with him."

I was like whaaaaaaaat?! But I was too tired to reload and try again. So I forged ahead and vowed to save Ser Otto next playthrough.

I always cheese my way through Ser Otto's quest. If you bring a mage who has forcefield, just have the mage forcefield Ser Otto at the beginning of every fight. He can't do any damage, but he also doesn't take any damage. Your mages can also heal him, but the forcefield method is funnier.

Did you happen to do it on the consoles? Shale never appears on the console epilogues.

Yes, I did it on the Xbox 360. Aha! I wonder why she doesn't show. After I dragged myself through her damn companion quest.

She's there in the PC version, but still couldn't get her to tell me why she hates humans Image IPB(it might have something to due with me being human though?)

I love reading about first impressions of the game. Thanks for sharing. I play on PC so no clue on your xbox specific questions. ;)

@mousestalker, thank you! And forcefield . . . I don't know why I never thought about that. He usually doesn't die on me, but I hate babysitting him :( That would definitely make things easier.

Oh, and most surprising WTF? moment of the game:

When I looked up in the Brecillian Forest after doing some tactics with my companions, and an Ogre had picked up my PC and was punching her in the face.

Oh Maker (geek much?), that reminded me of of my first time encountering this attack. I was in Deep Roads and an ogre charged at Leliana. Me being the nice person that I was, taunted the foul thing and attacked it before it got to her. Was a BIG mistake. It picked my PC up and punched the hell outta her. I was sitting there yelling: "Not the face! Not the face!" Image IPB
That's what you get for trying to save someone.

Not to be cliche', but the city elf origin as a female PC is powerful.  Well, you'll find out.

Never thought of using FF on Ser Otto!  Good call.  He totally messed up my mage's mojo because you can't get him out of the way for fireballs etc.

Spoiler question:  I know the templars at the Chantry are supposed to tell you something about him after the quest, but they never talk about him, only about Irminric.  What is it that they say?

Drat! I'm going to have to start making a list of things to remember to do some play-through or other. I didn't talk to the Chantry templars about Otto or Irminric.
