OK ... so today has some good news for both Mac gamers and Dragon Age fans ... but not for Mac Dragon Age fans ...

Valve told us that Steam is comfirmed for Mac and we will get free copies of previoously owned games via Steam Play.

PC owners get another new patch.

And Mac owners ... well, 2.5 months on and NO official comment on a Patch or any further DLC.  Dragon Age Mac continues to be full-priced abandonware.

EA and Bioware need to learn something about Valve. ;) Steam.

As I've heard, there is a Steam version of Dragon Age. Does this have any meaning for (future) Mac Steam / Dragon Age MAc users?

I played Half-Life on Steam via the Wine wrapper on Mac and it went well, although I frankly don't see the benefits of "Steaming" a game I already own. Except if the DLC works on Mac as it does on PC, out-of-the-box.

Valve said it is up to 3rd parties to decide how to handle this stuff. So I think it is only fair to assume we will never hear anything either way ... and it will never arrive.

Of course ... I have taken a hard stance in general due to lack of communication ... and am still waiting hopefully to be proven wrong! :)

It's pretty shameful how Dragon Age: Origins has been entirely ignored by EA and BioWare.

City of Heroes/City of Villains, Warhammer Online, etc. have no troubles keeping the Mac version (done via Cider) up to date with the PC version, and their online components obviously work properly.

Telltale Games just released Tales of Monkey Island for the Mac, all five episodes. They're doing Sam & Max next.

Steam and all the Valve Source-based games are coming in a month.

Why no updates about Dragon Age? Why are we being ignored?

Did EA just take our money and run?

:crying:

I have had responses from Transgaming that they are indeed working on DA DLC and expansions for Mac users and state they are excited about releasing more content, once they are able to.

As did I ... but I do not anticipate it will get the 'SteamPlay' treatment for some odd reason ...

As have I, as mentioned in the other thread ... but quick 'we're working on it, TRUST US' replies that have never been followed up officially with any details are not confirmation.  As I keep saying, I'll be thrilled to be wrong ...

Yeah, well – I had responses from Transgaming that they are indeed working on fixing the Mac specific bugs in Battlefield 2142 and are looking into porting the expansion, too. That was 2008. Neither the fixes nor the expansion ever turned up.
I also had responses from Transgaming that they are indeed working on a patch for PuzzleQuest. That was also 2008. No patch ever turned up.
Other people had responses from Transgaming that they are indeed working on fixing certain (Mac specific) problems in Command and Conquer 3, Spore, Shaun White's Snowboarding, Prince of Persia 2008 – you name it. Guess which of those got fixed.
Beginning to see a pattern?

Valve takes a big ol crack at Transgaming.

http://teamfortress....ost.php?id=3578

Q: Is it just some crappy emulated version of TF2?A: No! Also: How dare you! Mac users aren't getting a crappy emulated version of the game. TF2 will run natively on OSX, like an actual big boy game for adults.

Isn't it weird how Transgaming are working on putting themselves out of business?
I mean, I will think twice before buying another Mac version "ported" by them, after all this... and I'm sure many think the same, which will reduce sales of future Transgaming products, and chances of further Mac conversions by Transgaming...

I agree. I was very pleased when DA:O was released for Macs and went and bought it right away, but it's hardly been a rewarding experience. Besides the lackluster performance you get from "cidering" the game, the post-game support has been a joke. No patches, no DLC and no word at all about Awakening.

I don't know who to blame for this, but Bioware can't just wash their hands and say this is all EA/Transgamings fault. They all share responsibility imo.

I cannot complain really. I'm very pleased my game's performance and have been able to use many of the mods available on DragonageNexus, so I'm happy. Could I be happier with more DLC, patches and word about Awakening being available for Mac users? Yes.

Well when Steam for mac is released in April (and if Dragon Age falls under that release) I think I am going to buy it via steam for mac. Looking at the steam version now and it has alot more DLC for the same $65 i spent on the "deluxe" mac version!

Edit:  Maybe not, didn't realize I had those 3 collector items...  Still I want the DLC and expansions!

Of course you ASSUME that it will be available for the Mac on Steam ...

And let me ask, since the exact same folks (EA/Bioware/Transgaming) would be required to produce a Steam release for the Mac, WHY would we expect (a) it to get released, and if it did (B) for it to be anything but yet another money-grab from folks who expect 'Steam on Mac' to mean all games are non-Cider and treat Mac as equal to PC ... but in the end Dragon Age has been very much lesser on Mac, and IF they release on Steam, I anticipate it will be the same unpatched, DLC-unfriendly, unsupported version we have now.

I think the point is (at least for me) not so much the performance (which is acceptable for me) but the disregard for a whole group of customers who paid the same money for their version and don't get the same support other groups get. If they released DA:O for Mac as a bargain abandonware version for $20, I'd understand this. But I paid good coin for my version and just feel I'm entitled to the same treatment other users get.

On the other hand, aren't we all accustomed to get our games years later, and at the original price, when the PC version is already on the rummage tables for $5? The only difference is the time frame this time. Oh, and IIRC, Neverwinter Nights was indeed always well-patched and supported when it was released for the Mac, two months after the PC version.

As a customer, I'm angry. I feel cheated. We paid exactly the same amount as Windows folk, yet receive *zero* post-purchase support. No patches. No DLC. Not even a comment. Nothing. Like we don't exist.

While Windows/360/PS3 users can look forward to Awakening today, Mac users still haven't been patched, still wait for Return to Ostagar, and still wait for any official word on support

I would not have purchased the Mac version had this been stated alongside the price. Then again, "Pay the same price, get no support!" isn't exactly the best sales pitch.

I've had nothing but respect for Bioware in the past, but their handling of this has been ******-poor. Enough so to make me seriously reconsider purchasing another such port. I want to show my support for gaming on the Mac - but I also will not support companies treating Mac users like second class citizens, as Bioware/EA have done with Dragon Age.

Bioware is really the wrong party to point the finger at. They are owned to 100% by EA and its EA that makes the decisions for Bioware. EA handed the "port" to Transgaming and for all that we know, that has been the wrong decision. Bioware had no hand in this at all. That they (Bioware) have a Mac support forum at all is purely generosity: they had nothing to do at all with the Mac "port" and hence are the wrong side to expect support from.

That they (Bioware) have a Mac support forum at all is purely generosity:

While thankful, this is more of a necessity, since neither Bioware nor EA provide Mac customer support, instead pointing customers to this forum. I find this kind of insulting, like "Sort your problems out by yourselves, what do we care."

Well I suppose we should be proud of ourselves. I mean, we are savvy enough to figure out our own issues without any professional help.  That says plenty, I suppose. :P

I can't say I agree.  Bioware created the game.  EA distributed the game.  The Mac version is sold from the Bioware/EA-run website, alongside the Windows version.  Bioware and EA provide support for Windows, 360, PS3 users.

I think it's reasonable to assume, whether they handled the port in-house or not, that Bioware and/or EA should be the ones coordinating support for the Mac version - just as they do for every other platform.  It's their game, they sold it, it's their responsibility to provide support.

The sticky at the top of this forum even directs "official support" to EA.  What's there for Mac users?  Do a search.  There are *two* Mac topics - "Enabling right-clicks on Mac" and "Performing a Tracerouter on Mac".  That's it. And even those are sloppy - "tracerouter"?  It's "traceroute".  They don't even bother to proofread 'em, it seems.

There's no official handoff to Transgaming there, at least that I can find.  Transgaming's website has a very large graphic proclaiming Dragon Age on the Mac - clicking on it goes to a site at gametreeonline.com.  The "Support" link there goes directly to the Bioware forums.  Full circle.

If you're on Windows, you get excellent support.  If you're on the 360/PS3, you get acceptable support for those platforms (where there's much less you cna do to troubleshoot things).  If you're on a Mac?  Nothing.  I'm sorry, but that's not acceptable to me.  It reflects extremely poorly on both Bioware and EA.

Maybe if we paid less than the other platforms, it'd be understandable - but we paid the same price for the game, we deserve the same level of support.

I'm not saying that we need same-day patches/expansions - being a port I can understand a couple weeks lead-time might be necessary (although it'd be great PR for them to release simultaneously on *all* platforms).  I'd be fine with that.  But that's not what we have.  We have a situation where there's *zero* official word from *anyone* at Bioware or EA regarding post-purchase support.  There's announcements and patches for every other platform - provided by Bioware/EA.  We deserve the same, and we're not getting it.

(Edit: the quoting is apparently messed up, or the server's caching the broken quote tag - to be clear, the first paragraph is quoted, the rest is my response =) )
