I'll ad my two cents; pick pocketing is broken As reported, it seems you can pick pocket money, but not items. You get the message that stealing was successful but no item in your inventory. I had thought it was working okay, but that was a result of poor testing on my part. Further investigation tonight confirmed it's not working with this patch. So far, I've seen no other issues. The game did crash once last night, but it's been prone to that for me since I got it, so I won't attribute that to the patch.

System specs:

Core 2 Duo E6750 overclocked to 3.4 GHz
4 GBs (2 x 2GB) Mushkin Redlines
GeForce GTX 260 Core 216
Gigabyte P35 DS3L motherboard
3 hard drives, with the game installed on a separate drive to the OS.

Mods: Respec mod, faster stealing cooldown mod, stamina potion mod, Innodil's Pocket Plane mod.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight so because the game ISNT crashing for you, must mean that the rest of us are liars or there is something ate up on OUR end.....Right Right....Of COURSE....Does this guy smell of EA to anyone else or is it just me?

I don't think he's calling us liars. Besides, there are too many people here having crashing issues for it to be an isolated problem. I've tried on two different driver versions, new and old, and two different graphics cards with the same results.

I have a brilliant idea. How about only those who have encountered problems/bugs in the new patch USE THIS THREAD!

Oh, my god, it's such an amazingly novel concept. That's for every one of those "It's fine for me" posts, every one of those posts praising or dissing the game that offer no advancement to the topic, the posts that are trying to rile up the others... etc.

Bioware mods, what other info can be helpful? I posted my system specs a few days ago, the problem is sporadic but every time it's happened to me was in the middle of combat, and I don't think there's any companion groupings it happens to more frequently. The crashes occur around one or two every 20 and 30 minute play session, usually depending on how combat heavy the session is. There is no error code that automatically comes up, nor is there any log that's obvious. However, I AM a new windows 7 user, so there might be ways to get more prominent error reporting above and beyond it's defaults. I don't mind helping to work toward supplying you with information, but I do need help identifying what might be useful and how to dig it up for you, any help would be appreciative.

to track down technical problems it's also important that those who don't encounter crashes post their system specs. else there would be no comparison between hard- or software.

Nice sentiment but you are being naive.  You really think your data is going to help Bioware solve the problem?  I am in the software business for years and let me tell you this patch is a mess up in such as major propotion that you and a few poster's data isn't going to solve this problem.

This is a simple case of neglect and blatant disregard of software quality control.  This is patch 1.03, not release 1.00.  Patch 1.02 worked pretty well, all these software engineers at Bioware has to do is re-run the test scripts they had for 1.02 to make sure at least what worked in 1.02 still works for 1.03.

If Bioware really cared about customer service and product quality, they would have done a better job with the release of 1.03 patch.  If they had cared, they would not need a few people's emails and posts in this forum on what the problems were.  This is a serious software devepment project with millions at stake, their QA team should have found the same consistent and simple to find bugs we all are encountering.

so really, the problem here is not how much more data we can provide Bioware, they would have found all the data they need if they cared and were serious about it.  They have done a good job up to 1.02 patch.  I don't know if if they had a new team doing 1.03, new management watching the release or just simply don't care after they made big money with all of us buying, supporting their product and spread the good word.  But really to solve the core of the problem is to let Bioware know how upset we paying customers are, how we will not tolerate this and how that's going to hit their bottom line.  Trust me, I've been in the business for years, and that's how it works.

And yes, I encountered bugs in 1.03, bugs that I am 100% sure didn't existed in 1.02 which I spent over 100+ hrs playing.  But I think everyone should tell Bioware how they are upset at this failed patch instead of being a good little test rats for them doing their work.

Funny.  It's a good thing someone so amazing as you realized that this is the EXACT thread to post  this gem.

As someone "who's been in the business for years" you should be able to handle creating a separate thread to voice your frustrations instead of being this petty.

Find a new thread to be a brat in. Because this one's title kind of imply's that it may be used for something constructive.

Well that depends on your definition of "constructive" is it?  If by constructive you mean you expect Bioware to come in and look at a few poster's description of crashes and unstrcutured data in uncontrolled environment, instead of having a professional QA team doing their testing, heh yeah by all means keep posting your constructive posts.

I will keep doing what I think is constructive, posting my furstration, email their support about my furstration and hope enough intelligent people to understand how things work and get their managements attention to do somethig really "constructive".

Oh and yeah, my furstration is backed by real bugs I experienced with 1.03 patch, just like very posters in this thread.  I just chose to post in different ways then you that I think is more constructive.

I don't know if pickpocketing or anything else is buggy as the game crashed repeatedly & lost my DLC so I have reinstalled and gone back to patch 1.02.

Game:
Dragon Age Origins Collectors Edition + Return to Ostagar

System:
Intel Core i7 CPU 920 overclocked to 3.20GHz, 4 Core, 8 Logical Processors
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600
RAM: 6.00 GB
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series with 1GB physical RAM for graphics
Resolution: 1920 x 1080 x 60 hertz

Windows error logs show the only faulting application is DA. I had only one crash in over 100 hours of game play with patch 1.02. I do not play with any other application running (nothing - even antivirus is turned off). The respec mod is the only mod installed. Uninstalling the mod made no difference.

Going back to 1.02 solved the problem but now I want to know if I am going to be able to play Awakening, which I plan to install this week. Does Awakening include this patch?

I am reminded of Toyota when they went before Congress claiming that they build quality products and could find no fault. However, many people have been killed because of their not so high quality construction. So, I ask you, "Is it the customers fault for buying the product or the corporation who built it? Moreover, who is responsible for fixing it, the corporation or the customer?"

For them --especially EA-- it is all about revenue and to hell with the customer! Incidentally, as far as I know we still live in a free country with freedom of speech. So, if customers want to voice their frustrations in this forum who are you to say different?

I've had a lot more crashing issues now than before I updated to this patch.  Sometimes I can't even go 10 minutes without it crashing again! :(

But interesting thing I learned, I thought the forum was run by EA and thus moderators were EAployees.

First of all, I'm not an EA  or BioWare employee (sorry Melkathi). Second of all, I pointed out in this post you quoted that my game did crash, as have many others, but noted that my game was crashing before the patch, so I wasn't going to attribute the crash solely to the patch. Third, please reread my posts. Not just the one you quoted, but all of them. I made a list of what I think are issues caused by this patch. Crashing is on that list. Middle of page six of you're interested. Finally, if you have issues with your game due to this patch, please post them here along with as much info as you can. The more info the better. If you have issues with me or other forum members, then take it to PMs. This thread is for bug reporting.

Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
9206MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
DirectX 11
64 bit OS

- All DLC downloaded, activated, and have never lost anything or had any hiccups with them
- Have never experienced any crashes at all
- No "unofficial" mods running or even installed

- Game still starts out super fast and smooth as it was in the beginning, but everything still goes down hill after around 2 hours of play...this has yet to change patched or not
- Game now has severe lag/stutter/FPS hit (whatever you want to call it) after around 2 hours of play. This is new since the latest patch and was not present before
- Game becomes "virtually" unplayable around the 3 hour mark ( I can still play, but the ever increasing loading times combined now with the excessive lag/stutter/FPS hit, makes it a joke to even try to continue)

In order to even attempt to continually play this game I have to:
1. Find a stopping point
2. Save
3. Log completely out to desktop
4. Do a Rain Dance in my living room
5. Log back in
6. Pick up where I left off
7. Play for 2 more hours...rinse and repeat until I get frustrated enough to stop playing all together

**edit Added OS type

Performance is good and load times are faster... but the game is broken. I can't progress any further and am forced to re-install the game.

I've only noticed two things so far;

1. Mana/Stamina bars are empty. I still have mana and stamina but I can't see it.
2. In the Fade sequence in the Mage Tower level and I can't click on the Shapeshifting buttons. So I can't change into a mouse and proceed further in the game. Will have to re-install

As mentioned earlier, Shale's Rock Barrage no longer works correctly. The graphics for launching the Rocks occurs as usual but subsequent rock fall animation (none), damage (none) and cool down (none) have rendered it useless. Repeated use will eventually activate the cool down but without any benefit i.e. why bother wasting your combat rounds. Let the roll back commence... Not exactly how I intended to spend my "play time". And I'm not buying any DLC until the QA improves. Why waste my time AND my money...

agreed, heck of a time to release such a buggy patch right before your big expansion pack comes out. And I was just about to hit the pre-order button too...

toyota distributes the same car with identical electronics all around the world. outside of north america nobody dies because of accidents caused by selfacting pedals. everybody was able to stop the car and brought it back to their retailer. the same thing with the movie "paranormal activity". people really got scared and ran out of the cinema... sometimes i think americans are somehow "obsessed" and overreacting.

Perhaps this is an OS-related problem . . . I've noticed that the people with these crashes have Vista/Windows 7 installed. Is the patch causing any problems with Windows XP?

I ask because my PC has Windows XP.

Yes. I'm on XP Home 32 bit SP3, and have the pick pocket glitch and I believe I've seen others with XP systems reporting some of the other more common issues (crashing and the stamina/mana bar glitch).

My win xp system is within the specs posted her and I had no new bug to report, so I mentioned neither earlier.

Latest xp 32bit drivers for the ati radeon 48xx series

Aside from the non standard location of the main files (hard drive d: instead of the root drive c: as mentioned earlier)
maxybe the lack of hardware overclocking  and the fact that no other new game has required a custom directx runtime yet may prevent my systrem from crashes :?

I can clearly blame the slowdowns around script heavy maps to my well aged rack

Hence bosses can still be shattered after installing 1.3, as said: maybe the windows xp bug
around failing file replacement strikes again.

Im on windows 7 64 bit DA is from cd disk install

Haven't noticed any problem since installing 1.03 - pick pocket has been explained as a change;no more random items found in pockets, just money - if so then message should be 'empty pocket!' instead of 'pickpocket success' so as not to confuse.

I did have a problem with error 36 when i tried to install any patch - after reinstalling file designerscript.rim was able to install patches. a nice forum user provided this tip

I've only installed 1.01, 1.02a (necessary for 1.03 to install for me; despite what EA says)

What about those who did die as a result? Are they to blame or the manufacturer? If I am obsessed it's because I am distrustful of corporations who think they are above the laws of the lands. In the end with them it is all about greed and more greed. As for DAO's 1.03 patch it is they who a resposibile for fixing the problems not the customers. The customers did not create the 1.03 patch BioWare did. So far noone from Bioware has come forth to admit there are problems with the 1.03 patch and that they are fixing them. They are more concerned with getting the Awakening out to market --for the revenue. And, while that may be understandable they still have an obligation to there "PAYING" customers. Or, do you disagree?
