Everyone should list their specs and what problems they do and DONT have, so maybe can find a commonality between them. Believe it or not, people who post and dont have any problems aren't just spouting useless blather. Its why THEY have no problems that we should figure out.

My loading times are much better, only crashed twice in about 20 hours of playing time. Game lags horrifically over time and during big battles, and sometimes randomly. This was a problem present even before patch 1.03, but now its even worse. More often than not the character just stall, not following their tactics, and I haven't noticed this before the patch. Pickpocket is broken, naturally.

AMD Phenom 9550, Quad Core, 2.2ghz
6GB DDR2
Geforce 250 GTS

I haven't posted my specs because there's no need to. The crashing is horrendous after installing the new patch and is not when I roll back, it's as simple as that. The 1.02a patch has some issues that were corrected by 1.03 and still crashes the game on ocassion (can't be sure if this is code or driver related) but not on the scale of 1.03.

I feel the same way. I think it’s a total waste of time to
post our PC specs. This is such a wide spread problem that it highly doubtful
that it has anything to do with what are PC spec are. Just reading through all
of the posts and the specs that have been posted already should be enough info.
Everyone is having at lest one of the “bugs” 1.03 introduced.  And there’s no common link between what our
PC specs are. XP, Win 7, ATI, Nvidia, Intel, AMD, all are having the exact same
problems.

I’ve mentioned this before, but this is just like Gearbox
and their game Borderlands. They put out a patch so the game would run new DLC
and in that patch they messed up the graphics, the game was fine before the
patch, then after the patch the graphics where totally messed up for a LOT of
players. It was so simple to figure out. Something Gearbox did to the patch screwed
up the shadows and lighting. Yet it took them over 3 months to fix the problem.

The issue with DA:O and patch the 1.03 is exactly the same
situation. Code got messed up while coding the patch. It has nothing to do with
our PC’s. It’s Bioware’s problem. And they need to fix it.

Not true. I installed the patch like everyone else on my average pc, but I haven't had any crashes at all unlike most people. My main problem is persistent lag though and the pickpocket bug, which is universal. There's no question that Bioware's inability to understand their own product or communicate with their consumers is what's at fault here, but it doesn't hurt to figure out ourselves (since Bioware doesn't seem to care) why we're all suffering from different sets of bugs and what the commonality is. Who knows, we just might figure something out.

Bridge/pre-expansion patches (designed to install mechanics changes into the system before new content becomes available that relies on those mechanics) on persistent games have never been smooth, not on any game I've ever played. Someone above mentioned Blizzard... well, even with Blizzards significantly better staffed programming and customer service teams; the first two or three weeks were always rough (I'm talking patch 2.0 and 3.0, the ones just prior to release of BC and WotLK). But the real difference in the troubleshooting and patching process is that in a game where there's separation between client and server, like WoW; they can track data and retrieve significant error info via built in bug reporting on server-side where all the core mechanics operate. And they can fix many of those things without requiring a client patch (especially balance and object database issues). For client errors, they have a built in reporting tool that forwards them some data... but for most client issues, they rely on the same sort of reporting by players that BioWare gets from these forums... except they have fewer places to look, because the client and connected issues can be isolated from network and/or game engine problems.

Even still, Blizzard uses a test server with volunteer players (actively or passively) participating in trying to 'break' the new stuff for a minimum of four to six weeks prior to patch releases. Does DAO have any external testing process? Not that I've seen...

So... while I'd love to see errors cleaned up and am somewhat wary about the state of the game just prior to an expansion release; lets rein in the gross exaggerations that BioWare is incompetent or uncaring of anything but our wallets. Most likely, the pickpocket issue was a simple fix; but I don't see a full scale patch release just to fix that with less than a week until the expansion release (despite the 1.03 patch coming in before it, they have to be expecting to have at least some issues to resolve once people start full speed into Awakenings... and instead of spending the time building a separate patch release now... I'd personally put the fixes into that one so everything goes out at once).

On the other hand... the crash bug is far more critical... but while I see lots of people claiming to have issues with it; almost no one is providing relevant info that would help pin it down. Something as simple as listing the five to ten actions you took just prior to it occurring provide a huge benefit in isolating something like this. Such as: selected Character 1 with left mouse click, activated WarCry in hotbar spot 3, selected Character 3, rightclicked to attack an Emissary that was beginning a Fireball cast, activated Slam (Bear shape version) in Hotbar spot 3, selected char 1 with left mouse, opened inventory using the I key on the keyboard. ((note that this is not a real report, just an example)) Adding in things like graphics/texture settings, sound settings, system profile, and the like can help a lot. Including zone locations, relative position of your characters (spread out, close formation, etc), number of enemy active/visible... may or may not affect the situation at all. BUT, a troubleshooter benefits as much from the things they can rule out as they do for those things that show where the problem is. The least we can do if we're going to gripe about the problems is provide useful info on how to fix them.

Well I also logged 2 complaints about these issues. It's great how you get an email saying I will get an answer within 24 hours.

The first one took 3 days and gave me the usual crap reply to check my computer specs (which I gave them in the complaint) and such.

After that it was impossible to reply back again since the button to do that was gone.

So I wrote a second more detailed complaint about the issues and it's been 5 days now...still no reply.

If this is normal for EA, I am amazed at how big a company they still are. I guess a lot of people have a high tolerance for crap.

If this is the best they are willing to do, then I guess it's time I specifically watch for that EA label next time I wanna buy a game and make sure it hasn't got EA on it.

I really can't believe that after 3 patches they still haven't bothered to fix their bad coding. That only makes me think it's worse than I thought: so bad that even they themselves can't figure out what's doing it.

Yeah mailing EA is a compleat waste of time.

It'a also amazing that there is NO reply or comment in this thread from BioWare.
They don't seem to care at all. And a simple update that they are aware of the problem and working on it would be nice.

Since my game is unplayable due to frequent crashes plus the other bugs I have cancelled my pre-order of Awakening.

Not that BioWare will ever find out, they would need to read their own support forum to do so.

I heard that patch 1.03 breaks Return to Ostagar. Supposedly when you get to the bridge (where the FMV of dead King Cailen starts playing) it does not work and you can not continue playing because the screen goes entirely black. Is this true? Has anyone played Return to Ostagar with 1.03 far enough to confirm/deny this?

I haven't played RtO since installing the patch. I'll see if I can get a run through it tonight and I'll report back in this thread. Going to be 12 or more hours from now though.

Just playing through 1.03 RtO, made it past the bridge part, still no glitches.

Not really having problems with this patch tbh. The only inconvenience is pickpocketing getting broken

So appears bonus for Juggernaut armor set is not working at all anymore, anyone else
having this issue?

I have reloaded save games and tried removing the armor nothing seems to work. Was working prior to patch 1.03 although I did have to remove the armor on occasion.

After more playing around it seems like I am experiencing a memory leak that compounds itself over time. After turning off AA I was able to get through the Lost in Dreams quest, and it played semi-smooth for a while. After about 2 hours of straight play time it started stuttering and getting laggy. Exiting the game shows that my system is still using more memory than standard at idle, but a few minutes of doing nothing clears it up. Thus making me think that the memory isn't releasing properly or efficiently

I am a programmer, but I am not a BioWare coder so I can't say whether it is a problem with the code, or a combination of hardware/software/OS issues that are bringing these crash problems (/char gen problems) up. The Pickpocket bug is a coding thing most likely, but the rest can be a variety of possibilities that BioWare can't reliably test for in a 'sanitary' test environment (i.e. clean, fully updated machines versus users PC's that may have tons of extra software/different driver versions/different update levels/etc).

I can semi-extend playtime before it wants to crash by letting it sit for a little bit after loading a new area, playing a cut scene, auto-saving, etc.

I can also state with some assurance that, for me at least, the issues compound when the game auto-saves and takes a screenshot automatically - as well as when achievements unlock and are uploaded to the servers. I finished RTO and it only started getting really bad at the end after defeating the Risen Ogre (when the achievement unlocks) and the Necromancer. The cut scenes started jittering after the achievement unlock/screenshot/auto-save/upload and it remained that way (getting worse over time) until I closed out the game completely.

System Specs (general):

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

nVidia GeForce 9650m GT w/ 1GB Video RAM (196.xx drivers, not the newest deadly ones from nVidia)

4.0 GB System RAM

GFX Settings for DAO on Medium w/ no AA (with AA and higher settings the issues come quicker)

Takes between 1.5 and 2 hours of play time for the issues to start occurring (compounded by what I listed above).

Just installed 1.03 my DLC is now showing up as unauthorized. My DAUpdater is NOT working correctly. I always check the log when it starts and it always shows "received manifest ready from DA servers" but now that isn't showing up.

My specs:

os: windows vista service pack 2 32-bit

Processor: Intel Celleron D CPU 3.46 Ghz

RAM: 512 MB

Video card: Nvidia GeForce 9400 GT with 1024 MB DDR2

CultKiller, one thing you could try is running the DA Update Diagnostic Beta. You can find a link to it in This Thread (about 2/3 the way the first post). Perhaps that will get you up and running.

Eurypterid, is it always the customer's fault when Bioware or EA puts out a patch full of bugs? Is it always the customer's responsibility to fix the problem, when it is clearly Bioware or EA's problem? While I am experiencing similar problems after installing the patch, I am also having problems contacting Gamespot to cancel my pre-order for the Awakening. Their email is undeliverable. How convenient. Incidentally, it isn't my email client either. So, am I to blame for that too?

I just tried what you said. Unfortunately it turns out that the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 (Required to upgrade to Service Pack 2 which the DA Update Diagnostic Beta runs) is not compatible with Vista operating systems so the DA Update diagnostic Beta doesn't work.

Eurypterid never stated that, either implicitly or directly. If you read the whole thread you will see that Eurypterid is having issues as well. The post above yours was a step in troubleshooting an issue - BioWare/EA made a tool available for this trouble shooting - so you cannot claim they do not acknowledge its their problem.

Since downloading the patch, I've been crashing lots, not just in combat, but even just when running around! Turning graphics down and it's still occuring. The game is just unplayable now. I thought it was just crashing during the Ostagar DLC content, but no. It seems to just be a general issue. This never happened before the 1.03 pathc. Occasionally combat would slow down, but it would just speed up again after fixing itself.

I have downloaded the new patch 1.03.

Issues I’ve noticed. (Before and with1.03) While loading scenes is not a problem for me I have noticed that the longer I play the game in one sitting the slower it takes to load a saved game. If I shut the game down and restart it any saved games loads quickly. But after playing for several hours saved games take a lot longer. This has not been fixed in the new patch.

I experienced my first crash for this game after instilling 1.03 while fighting the archdemon. It didn’t give me any reason or error code. The second time worked fine.

I have noticed in the past (with 1.02?) that in the camp site in the Brecilian forest two of the options didn’t correspond with their actions. It seemed that options were linked wrong. Has anybody noticed this and has it been fixed in 1.03?

Moderator: Sorry if this is the wrong place for this. You can move it if you need to.

Thanks.

Also, can we make a request to bioware to tell them to have an option like ''Always Keep Objects And Characters Highlighted''? It will be cool if that were to be implemented, along with other fixes.

Well I yelled loud and long, when I loaded the patch and did a fresh install w/1.02a, but last night I got a wild hair and updated my new install from 1.02a to 1.03, and so far so good.

Main complaints now are any scene with fire/lava (camp is really bad by the fire), or more than a few npc's and the lag is herendous. Even if I lower my settings. Also when I zone some of my characters take off their helmets (they are in my inv not on character).

My system is:
Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU     E8400  @ 3.00GHz
Clock Speed: 3.0 MHz
Ram: 4 gig
Video: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT Vram: 1.00 GB Driver Version: 196.21

I do stand corrected and apologize. I am just annoyed by the lack of respose form both Bioware and EA, regarding this damn patch. All they care about right now is generating revenue from their Awakening expansion and could care less if we "the customers" are having problems with the bug laden patch. Gamespot too is doing much the same. Lord knows they have already credited my account for the $39.99. The game isn't even out yet. How many bugs are going to be in that game? I fear the worse. And, besides America is a free country and I can speak out anywhere I want. It just happens to be in this forum thread.

I understand your annoyance - I am quite irritated at the lack of response as well. There are better ways to go about it though, as I am sure you are aware with your apology.

As to the free speech/free country part.. yes. America is a Free Country and has Free Speech - the free speech rule, however, does not apply to privately owned companies/forums (to an extent). Companies have final say in what is 'visible'/'available' (in regards to 'speech') on their venues. That said, though, criticism isn't a bad thing - but 'bashing' and non-constructive remarks are very de-railing. The best bet is to, if you have issues, state them clearly and not 'attack' out of the irritation you may feel inside. You will tend to get more respect from the folks you are directing your comments at, and the folks commenting back at you will (for the most part) recognize that you aren't just 'hating'.

In this case, Eurypterid is just doing their job of keeping the forums 'on topic' - He/She has no input into BioWare policy, but has (as mentioned by them numerous times in this thread) forwarded the valid complaints contained here to the BioWare developers. It is up to them, not the moderator(s), to come in and let us know what is going on. Eurypterid is just trying to keep everything going smoothly, and has made sure to let folks know that he/she is having problems as well - so he/she isn't just painting a 'rosy portrait' that I have seen some moderators on official forums do.

I have the 'stealing success message appearing and no loot' problem. Also have the game slowdown/lag problem. The slow loading problem isn't fixed for me too. Crashing while restarting the game. It crashes after loading the save game. I am also experiencing other similar problems from other players.

Note: Have the slowdown/lag and slow loading problems even before v1.03.
