So I installed this patch and started a new game. Now every time I try to leave Ostagar and go into the Korcari Wilds Alistair doesn't follow me. I've restarted the game 3 times!!!!! Every time the game plays Alistair's dialog but he isn't even there! And he certainly isn't around to help me fight. He's just standing next to Duncan, acting like he's following me. His character picture, inventory, etc... don't appear with me either. The only thing I can think of that's changed is I bought every DLC and I downloaded the 1.03 patch.

God, why do I bother paying people to make defective products? Give me an option to get my money back you liars. You really expect me to keep paying to get ripped off?

Just bought Awakening off of steam (I got DA:O off of steam as well). I'll see if installing it has any effect on my repeated crashes (~every 5-20 min), mana/stamina bug, or pickpocketing bug. I'll post again and let you know if anything changes.

Windows 7 home premium 32-bit (6.1, build 7600)

DirectX 11
Samsung SyncMaster 226BW (22 inch)

DA:O

I've been getting random crashes, and a few items have disappeared off my inventory or character, most notably my Winter's Breath staff that I was using on my mage.

Also, yes, patched to 1.03, and installed Awakening, with the same results. No mods, am running 4 GB memory on Vista x64 with dual Radeon 4890's.

Just tested awakening to see if it fixed any problems. Installing it appears to have fixed my mana/stamina bar issue. I didn't get the chance to try out pickpocketing yet. The game still crashes frequently in and out of combat. =(

Add me to the list of those experiencing FREQUENT crashes (CtD) after installing patch 1.03, but had NO crashing under 1.02. (Although 1.03 has fixed the ever-increasing load-time problem, which was pretty bad!) On my rig the CtD seems to occur mostly at the very beginning of combat, or when an auto-save might be triggered.

System Specs:

Windows 7 x64 Premium

Intel Q6600 (2.4GHz, quad core)

8GB RAM

nVidia GT240, 1GB VRAM

Hope Bioware is working on a(nother) fix!

I wondered myself if quad cores are to blame, but I saw someone with an X2 dual core which suffered crashes. Since this game isn't recommended for single cores, one would have to wonder what kind of bug ass coding would conflict with multiple core processors anyway? Colour me stumped again.

I installed Dragon Ages:Origins Awakening through steam and instead of the shortcut on the desktop opening the game it opens my internet explorer. Also I get a file validation error through steam that says there is one file missing and will reaquire the file, I have attempted twice now to reaquire the missing file and it does not seem to be working. I've also attempted to reinstall DAO:A twice and that did not work either. I know there isn't anything wrong with my administrator settings either  but I got an error saying it was not installed correctly and that I had to be on a administrator account for it to install, which I know is incorrect, anyway here's my system info if that helps fix whatever the bug is so that it may be fixed if you would please. If any other information is needed please feel free to contact me.  Thank you.

darn! I'm not getting Awakening now. not with all these issues. *takes coat off. puts away credit card*
patch 1.02 gave me broken quests in denerim and a strange FX noise everywhere except camp, but 1.03 sounds like a disaster.

I played through the game 1st time on a Pentium 4 with half a gig memory. not terribly slow, (med graphics) never crashed. no patches -  no problems. now with new hog quad core Win 7 machine and huge widescreen monitor, am not going to mess up what is a marvelous experience. (3rd playthrough)

time to get back to my own work. guess I should thank B'ware for not hooking me for another month or two! *rolls eyes*

[Patch 1.03] No crashes yet, but I don't have Awakening installed either. So far the only thing I've noticed is the pickpocketing being broken. Then again, I haven't noticed any slow lag/load times yet (I've play through almost half way with the previous patch).

With Patch 1.03 and playing Awakening I'm noticing way more crashes to desktop, load times are good but it seems whenever alot of enemies are on the screen, especially with mages casting spells, the game just freezes and eventually I get the "Dragon Age Origins has stopped working" message.

Never had any issues with DAO before this, just the long loading times with DAO.

Here is my rig:

ATI 5770

AMD X3 720

Windows 7 64 bit

This is exactly what I'm noticing too- whenever it crashes, its at the beginning of combat, not too soon after opening a door or entering a new area.

Picked up Awakening and it installed without issues. I only got the chance to play for a few minutes, but no crashing during that time. I did notice a bit of stutter in a couple spots. Couldn't correlate it with anything in particular though, so I can't say if it's area specific or talent specific or a combination.

I was only able to test pick pocketing on one NPC (a generic soldier). It appears from that one test subject that it's still broken. I got the successful pick pocket message, but nothing added to the inventory.

For posterity, my specs again:

Windows XP Home 32 bit SP3
GTX 260 Core 216 video card, 182.08 drivers.
Core 2 Duo E6750 overclocked to 3.4 GHz
Gigabyte P35 DS3L motherboard
4 GB (2 x 2GB kit) Mushkin Redlines. Slight overclock on these (running at 1020 MHz)
3 hard drives. Game is installed on a different drive than the OS.
On-board sound.

Mods: I have the JB textures, respec, Innodil's Pocket Plane, faster stealing cooldown, and Stamina Potion installed.

*edit* Oh, I have the digital deluxe version of the main game (from the EA store) and the retail version of the expansion.

You can also add me as another experiencing crashes (CtD) after installing patch 1.03, but had NO crashing under 1.02. Mainly seems causes by lots of fast graphic spells (like fireballs, screen full of burning), so maybe they coded in a memory leak that blows up the GPU after a while? *sigh*

I played through twice under 1.02 and NEVER had a problem once. Hope they patch this quick.

UPDATE: I usually play at 1900x1200 widescreen. If I drop down to 1280x960 then I can play through any part that crashes, so I definitely think this is a graphic memory leak/problem of some kind.

Is this in Awakening? If so, that's working as intended. The only DLC items that carry over into Awakening is the RtO stuff. None of the other stuff will.

Installed 1.03 patch on vanilla Dragon Age, started getting graphical anomalies and diminished frame rates. Anomalies include shading becoming pitch black and opaque, noticed in Denerim that any ground lit by sunlight has red lines cutting across.

*edit* also, one crash suffered so far in Lothering when initiating conversation with a party member.

Pandaman: thanks for posting.

One thing I'll point out is the tiara you mentioned pick pocketing is a plot/placed item. Not a random item. It's the random item stealing that's broken in the patch. However, perhaps pick pocketing works in Awakening or works once you install Awakening. I'll be testing this if I can pick up a copy today.

Again, thanks for the info.

Hi, I am not going to buy and install Awakening before I have completed Origin - if installing Awakening would fix my problem.  I really don't want to stuck in patch 1.03 until the end of Origin.

I posted some of my experiences w/ 1.03 issues earlier in the thread but I want to add something:

Achievement Unlocks definitely are part of the issue (at least on my machine). Every time I unlock an achievement performance goes right to Hades - it can take upwards of 15 seconds for the achievement message to appear, during which time graphics tend to hitch and (a new occurance) audio stutters a bit. I got it knocked down to achievements because I got my first non-in combat one since patching (I got the nimble fingers or whatever, for disabling a certain # of traps).

It definitely hurts performance while the achievement unlocks - and performance degrades a bit faster post that point. Only solution is exiting the game, letting the computer sit for a little bit, and then going back in.

Yay, first official comment on Awakening!
Ah... no mention about problems, bugs and stuff.
Oh well.
Guess it would take too much time to type "We are aware of the problems and are working like moogles on speed to fix them"
