I don't think it has anything to do with PC Specs. It is just a poor qualty patch. We will just have to wait and see if Bioware or Ea fixes the problem --if they ever fix it?!? I believe it has to do with their overhead. If they put their staff on fixing all of the bugs, it then becomes a costly labor intensive issue. God forbid if quality assurance is a priorty. It cost too much. Why bother?!?

Exactly how I feel about this mess of a patch/game. I’m
using the 1.02a patch and my game CTD randomly, and it has done it just walking
around, or leaving a building. So far
never in combat. But it sure takes you out of the fun when in a blink of my eye
I’m looking at my desktop instead of the game world. I get strange graphic bugs
like people sitting backwards at tables, and a lot of clipping.
This is off topic but I saw the strangest thing today in
Denerim. I’d been there many time before, and this is before the Elven Alienage
opens. I was walking over to see if it had opened yet, and there was a group of
about 10 cats about 30 feet from the gate, and they where in kind of an arrow
formation. I thought maybe this was part of some quest or something, but when I
returned later in the day, they where gone. Crazy stuff!
Back on topic, I read a post in this thread from a 360
player of the game mocking us poor PC gamers. So all of the problems we are
having are limited to the PC? Really. So the console versions run
flawlessly? If that’s true then it
makes a lot of since that Bioware is just throwing us PC gamers a bone with
this broken game, and expansion. This is a really great game, it just to bad
that it’s so messed up. And yes I know it “started as a PC game” but that’s
about as far as it went IMHO. If the console game crashed like this, there
would be holy hell to pay. And you better believe any patch send down to
console players are tested a whole lot better then what we get shoved on us. I can’t
imagine playing this game with a gamepad, I just don’t think it would be very
fun having to play it that way.
Now I’m worried about Mass Effect 2. I have it, but I want
to finish DA:O before I install it. Does that game have as many bugs as DA:O? I
know I could just go over and look at the forum, but I’d like to hear from some
of you in this thread that might also be playing that game.

I posted some of my experiences w/ 1.03 issues earlier in the thread but I want to add something:
Achievement Unlocks definitely are part of the issue (at least on my machine). Every time I unlock an achievement performance goes right to Hades - it can take upwards of 15 seconds for the achievement message to appear, during which time graphics tend to hitch and (a new occurance) audio stutters a bit. I got it knocked down to achievements because I got my first non-in combat one since patching (I got the nimble fingers or whatever, for disabling a certain # of traps).
It definitely hurts performance while the achievement unlocks - and performance degrades a bit faster post that point. Only solution is exiting the game, letting the computer sit for a little bit, and then going back in.
(Not on topic of 1.03 patch)
Acheivement unlocks causing a slow down hmm, I would not be surprised if it is Bioware's shawdy servers they seem to have for everything. You know like it tripping out trying to connect to tell it you unlocked an achievement to update your profile.
Just throwing that out there.
(On topic)
Thanks for the people posting about awakenings will defintly continue to hold off on buying it... i'd be one of the unlucky ones with problems knowing my luck.
EDIT: Oh yeah about the cats and the above post... These cats?

Not even close. I've had perhaps one crash in the whole time I was playing ME2, and I'm not even sure that was because of the program itself (more likely the old as dirt drivers I was using at the time). DA:O was pretty hit and miss from the start and now it is just completely broken for me while using the 1.03 patch.
Good to be made aware of the problems with Awakenings. I won't be picking it up just yet, never maybe if Bioware can't/won'tfix this issue.

ME 2 ran fine for me. DA:O:A is another story, with patch 1.03.

That's a bit of an easter egg. Some of Mary Kirby's zombie kittens, if memory serves. I've not seen it yet, but I've seen a few other reports of it ahppening. It's intentional though.

I wouldn't put too much weight on that comment. I've seen a lot of complaints from the 360 users as well. Common ones are the Dexterity bug on the 360 and the corrupted saves bug, which still aren't fixed as far as I know. They have their own issues. That comment is just another one of the PC vs Console war jibes. You see it a lot on the forums (although I do wish people would stop bashing other peoples' choice of platform).

I cruised through the ME2 tech support forums a lot while playing that game. I had very few issues with it myself, but other people were reporting just as many bugs/issues as you've seen here for DA:O. It seems to be that way with any game. If you check the tech forums for pretty much any new game, there are always tons of complaints. Anyway, the biggest issue I recall encountering in ME2 was a couple times my character got stuck on top of objects that were suppsoedly not walkable. Only a reload would fix it. Other than that, the game ran great for me.
Side note: I played Awakening for about 3 hours today and pick pocketing is definitely broken in my game. Other than that though, I've found no other issues. I had a bit of stutter when I first fired it up, but that hasn't occurred again. I also had an issue with a certain part not behaving properly (some monsters not spawning, which prevented me from being able to progress), but figured out it was due to the Pocket Plane mod. After I disabled that mod, I could continue without issues.

What Bioware seems not to be aware of, is that people like me will now face two problems:
1) I will have to wait for who knows how long for a patch to fix the game;
2) Because I've not purchased the game, I will also have to wait for the cracked .exe to be released before I can finally play the fixed content;
What nonsense is this Bioware? Are you not aware that some people have to wait for two fixes instead of one because you screwed up? I'm sure I'm not alone on this one, because a lot of people acquired the free version of this game, and you simply ignore all this user base in favor of people willing to buy your stuff. We're also your supporters, in case you haven't realized this yet.
So next time, Bioware, think about us too. We deserve better than this and you know it.

I can NOT play and also like many many people have had to resort to reinstalling and only installing 1.02.
The game was crashing every 5-10 minutes and before 1.03 I had a grand total of 2 crashes in all the 100s and 100s of hours of gameplay. Both those crashes I can remember because they where my fault (aka trying to run several programs at once etc).
How can this patch have ever been released? It definately was NOT tested and shows the pure incompetance of the developers working on this game. I mean its hardly surprising considering the same dev team couldnt even get a 30 minutes DLC (RtO) right.
Pity really considering I love this game. I would cancel my Awakening pre-order but luckily for Bioware/EA, according to my Amazon account the game has been dispatched and can no longer be cancelled. Yes I actually went to cancel it.
Seriously, you just don realise the difference between incompetance (DAO devs) and quality (Blizzard devs) until you been a customer on both sides. Blizzard fanbois may whine about Blizzard being this and that, but one thing they can appreciate is that companies devs absolute dedication to great and bug free as possible games, whereas Bioware might release great games but dont give a toss about makin sure they are as bug free as possible...
Why should they care whether or not your game crashes, like many others, every 5 minutes. They already have your money and thats ALL EA CARE ABOUT - THE MONEY!!!

This is a disgrace. What was Bioware thinking? Hello? Was this expansion and patch developed by Obsidian all of sudden?

Huh? Does this make sense to anyone else? Problem one is shared by all users every time there's a reported bug in a product, (and is one of the reasons for threads like this.) But I don't see how one justifies whining to Bioware to fix "problem" two, which is essentially that those who steal their product suffer more *because* they stole it, and so need even more consideration?!?

I preordered both DAO and DAO Awakening though Impulse. It automatically updates everytime one is avaliable. DAOA is installed but I only get DAO when I go to load it. Some of my DLC/Mods are now disabled (Winter forge and RTO to name a few). I have tried to instal the update manually from Bioware but I get the same thing... does anyone know od a mod that conflicts to this degree?

How are you trying to access it? When you start the game up, don't click on New Game. Click on Other Campaigns. That's how Awakening is accessed.
*edit* Oh, and I highly recommend running no mods when you play Awakening. I found the Innodil's Pocket Plane was interfering to the degree that mobs were not spawning, and I was unable to progress past a certain area. Luckily it was right near the beginning, so I didn't have to replay a whole lot once I disabled the mod. DLC such as RtO, Stone Prisoner, and Warden's Keep are find (but no items from them carry over, except the items from RtO).

I love Blizzard. They do a much better job, though we have to wait, which I don't mind.
I reckon BioWare rushed the patch out for the Awakening launch. ME 2 is so much better in terms of stability. What a pity. DAO is such a beautiful game. I am still on my 1st playthrough (71 hours) and since 1.03, it has been such a pain to play. And I don't run any mod some more. What the ...

Granted, this is not the most powerful configuration, however previously, in patch 1.02a and before that, I was able to play the game on medium graphics/textures with framebuffer effects disabled at 1680x1050 with pretty much no (noticable) lag.
Now, in patch 1.03 I can try anything, from setting the resolution to 1024xsomething to setting graphics/textures at low, and a combination of this, it all lags.

Have you played a Rogue and have you tested pick pocketing?
