I've played the game for close to 6 hours without a single problem.  I have only used new characters. I installed patch 1.03 just before installing Awakening, and have not tried playing the base Origins game after patch 1.03. I'm not seeing any of the issues that are mentioned here.

Have you played a Rogue and have you tested pick pocketing?

I have mainly played with a Rogue, but have not picked any pockets.

I am not running RtO, since I was never able to get that to show up for downloading. Not sure if that matters.

One of the big issues with the patch is pick pocketing. You can pick pocket money and plot/placed items, but you get nothing if the NPC was supposed to have a random item (such as health poultices, injury kits, crafting components, gems, etc.) You'll get the 'stealing success' message but nothing in your inventory.

How are you trying to access it? When you start the game up, don't click on New Game. Click on Other Campaigns. That's how Awakening is accessed.

Really? I'm having no problems starting an Awakening game through New Game, I just a window with two buttons for Origins and Awakening.

Edit: yeah, dead tired, hardly noticed that screenshot had something I shouldn't be showing.

Didn't you have to first go into "Other Campaigns" to activate it the first time?

Oh, the first time I did go through Other Campaigns but all subsequent new games could be started just through the New Games option.

Well, spank my butt and call me Judy. That works too. I had only accessed it through the Other Campaigns option and never even consider trying New Game. Heh, thanks for pointing that out!

Ah, Silmaran, maybe that's the key.

Hey guys, just a heads up: the devs are cruising these tech posts for bug reports. I've seen posts by Fernando Melo and Chris Priestly that indicate they have people dedicated to collecting bug info, and I also got a PM from Victor Wachter indicating they're collecting info for their bug triage this week. So even if they're not posting in here, they're looking. So keep those bug reports coming.

DAO Awakening does not show up under my other campaigns. I beleive ther was an issue installing the 1.03 Patch... it gives me an error "31"? then says it is doing somethint with an external installer but it just sits there. I let it run for an hour... I am on my third playthourgh with the game and just for kicks it is now quite mod heavy.

I preordered both DAO and DAO Awakening though Impulse. It automatically updates everytime one is avaliable. DAOA is installed but I only get DAO when I go to load it. Some of my DLC/Mods are now disabled (Winter forge and RTO to name a few). I have tried to instal the update manually from Bioware but I get the same thing... does anyone know od a mod that conflicts to this degree?

*edit* Oh, and I highly recommend running no mods when you play Awakening. I found the Innodil's Pocket Plane was interfering to the degree that mobs were not spawning, and I was unable to progress past a certain area. Luckily it was right near the beginning, so I didn't have to replay a whole lot once I disabled the mod. DLC such as RtO, Stone Prisoner, and Warden's Keep are find (but no items from them carry over, except the items from RtO).

heh...well, let's see if they are just looking for 1.03 bugs or are going to address the memory leak and authentication issues. I am sick of the lag and having to restart the content updater manually all the time. Loading times are a bit better since 1.03 but after 5-10 area loads the loading times go up significantly again. All I can say is bad coding and memory leaks.
Just hope this doesn't turn into one of those "we know the problem, but we aren't going to admit it because it costs to much to fix it" type of things. The Xbox ordeal with the drives damaging the disks comes to mind....

This behavior is not new with the 1.03 patch. After discovering the many problems with the 1.03 patch (pickpocketing for one, lack of any mechanics fixes such as archery attack speed for another) I promptly reinstalled the game in order to revert back to 1.02a. I will not be playing the expansion until these issues are addressed in another update.

The increasing load times is definitely an issue that was present in the 1.02a patch for the PC. The load times get longer the more you play and exiting/relaunching the game alleviates the problem for a time. This is a clear indicator of a memory leak - all you have to do to confirm this is look at the memory usage of daorigins.exe when you first launch it then again when you notice that load times are prohibitively long. Memory usage will be much larger in this instance, at least until you exit the game and relaunch. Short of a proper fix, this is your only option, but this issue is not new to the 1.03 patch. It is possible that the dev team addressed one cause (or a suspected cause) of this problem, but it's clear they didn't eradicate it.

How long do I have to play to see lag and crashes? The only problem I had was the stealing bug. My weapon stats seem to be registering properly. I'd just hate to full price for a buggy expansion when I can wait for a patch fix and price drop. Wonder if Bioware will come up with a quick patch or make us wait a month or two?

I don't know if it's due to the 1.03 patch or Awakening, but I've noticed that, under Tactics, the 'Jump to #' action no longer automatically adjusts itself to changes in the tactics line-up.

They are not going to publically admit to bugs in both their patch and in Awakening. To them that would be financial suicide. However, according to the moderator they are aware of the problems....only aware. There has been no mention of Bioware actively working on fixing the bugs, only reading about them.

I am expecting my Awakening disk in the mail to arrive any day now, but I have no intention of installing it. I am actually considering refusing delivery --even if it means throwing away $40. How do you like that Bioware?

I'd like to know how many copies have sold, and what percentage of users are experiencing problems. It may be that it's only a small percentage. If you really want to use this forum constructively, then the best thing to do is describe as accurately as possible what problems occur, and what the exact circumstances were when they occurred. I've had no problems running the game for over 8 hours. There must be some common elements among the users that are experiencing the problems. Perhaps we can help to identify some pattern. People can use this forum to complain and make "threats" to Bioware, but that's not going to solve anything. If enough people decide not to purchase Awakening and sales is significantly impacted, then that will certainly send a message. After all, Bioware, like all corporations, exists to make money for it's shareholders. I doubt that Bioware intentionally released crappy software. They have an excellent reputation which has served them quite well. Getting sloppy could cause significant damage to that reputation and result in a reduction to their revenue stream.

I made a thread here in the tech section but maybe I should post here. I installed Awakening (along with 1.03) but now I can no longer make characters (well sort of) the character creation screen is invisible and I cannot see the tool bars (hair colour, eyes, etc.) and whatever I do I get a pale skinned human bald male wearing clothing, even if I am wearing armour. My old save game I was playing does NOT seem to be affected. Any ideas? Thanks.

Uninstall your homoerotic nude mod.

This post keeps popping up.  Seems to be a common problem with 1.03/awakening.

Uhm. I don't have ANY skin/body altering mods on. Are you saying that others have this same problem? Why isn't my original character affected?

Anyone having weirdness should probably try disabling all mods and then starting a new Awakening game with a new character, and see if that fixes it. Selectively enabling mods could allow identification of the mod causing a problem. I doubt that Bioware tested with any unofficial mods, nor should they be expected to. It's not something that is under their control.

I'm not sure if this is a bug fix or merely a bug (and if so, whether it's on my end, or something the patch did), but it appears the Ranger companions have been nerfed a little. The spider and bear used to have Overwhelm (via Tactics, anyway, with Master Ranger), but this appears no longer to be the case. Can anyone verify this?

Granted, they have never had Overwhelm among their list of abilities when you assumed direct control of them, so that's why I'm wondering if maybe their inaccessibility via Tactics is a bug fix, rather than a bug. But then, how come the wolf still has so much extra crap via Tactics?

Are your display drivers up to date? It would be nice to know which Nvidia drivers Bioware did their testing with.

I'm running with a 9800GTX using DirectX 10 under Vista 32, and have not had any crashes. It would make sense to focus on DirectX 9 vs. DirectX 10 to see if there's any correlation there. Most video game crashing is related to video, with some due to audio.
