Are your display drivers up to date? It would be nice to know which Nvidia drivers Bioware did their testing with.

I'm running with a 9800GTX using DirectX 10 under Vista 32, and have not had any crashes. It would make sense to focus on DirectX 9 vs. DirectX 10 to see if there's any correlation there. Most video game crashing is related to video, with some due to audio.

Driver version, old or new, has made no difference to the crashing for me.

So, I spent about 90 mins this evening doing the roll-back (well, really the uninstall and complete re-install) to get back to ver 1.02. And of course I made a complete copy of my "\\Users\\username\\Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age" folder before doing anything else!

The most interesting thing was having to re-download all the DLC. Once each of the four official packages were pulled down, (I did them concurrently) I then had to re-select each one individually to get them to extract and install. Scared me for a bit 'cuz I thought I'd have to wait on each of them to d/l all over again.

I selected "Save Games" and "Save Settings" when I did the uninstall, and afterwards I encountered no problem with any of the mods in my "...\\packages\\core\\override" folder. Went back and checked various saves from multiple characters, and all seems well.

Now, if Bioware can just get 1.03b issued before my copy of Awakening arrives... <sigh>

Can't scan over the past 19 or so pages - anybody else seeing this ? I'm getting the odd occurrence of characters not auto attacking, happened to Shale and on a fresh game (Human noble *) - the Dog seems to as well.

* also, minor - but when you speak to the librarian in the HN origins, I seem to remember that after the conversation finished, he moved over to the other side of the room. Doesn't now.

I have had characters not auto-attack even on 1.02a sometimes.  Sometimes I think the tactics trip out. ****** Shale with his 500 health just sits there drinking down health potions sometimes Image IPB  Speaking of which i wish they would move onto something else when 1 thing is impossible at the time (like drinking another potion) :(

Because EA writes the checks, handles the promotions, and manages the distribution, they also get to dictate the deadline and greenlight any patches or expansions; generally I don't buy games published by EA, Ubisoft, or LucasArts anymore simply because they're more interested in publishing profitable games than quality games but make an exception for Bioware - and so far I haven't been too disappointed (not a fan of DLCs or the near-full-pricing of an expansion, but that's EA's fault again).

What the hell! Bioware have posted in the threads about bugs in Awakening but nothing is said at all in this one, this stinks of EA again.

not sure if this is the issue but i turned off AA and it improved my crash time now its every 30 mins 40 mins, alot better then it was, i assume the game has a memory leak problem. whiche it has had since its release its just worse now.

Hey guys, just a heads up: the devs are cruising these tech posts for bug reports. I've seen posts by Fernando Melo and Chris Priestly that indicate they have people dedicated to collecting bug info, and I also got a PM from Victor Wachter indicating they're collecting info for their bug triage this week. So even if they're not posting in here, they're looking. So keep those bug reports coming.

Lag and Crashes
Game slowdowns occur intermittently, often severely, which result in crashes for some. This lag occurs most often and is most severe when loading between cut-scenes, during combat, or when looting corpses. Loading to a new area or restarting the game will often delay the problem for a time.

While I haven't seen seen the slowdowns that often (happened 2-3 times, and they were gone after a zone change), the game crashes every now and them. I guess it's either a slowdown or a crash? This never happened to me prior to 1.03 - it's not unplayable, the game can run stable for hours, but I'm forced to save way more often. If 1.03 weren't required to play DAA I'd rollback to 1.02 :|

About missing models for character creation...

I know some have reported that during creation there isn't a visible character and that once in game, the character appears as a bald-headed human. It may or may not be relevant to note that if you go into your DA:O directory under 'dragon age origins/packages/core/patch' and remove the file 'patch002.erf' you will achieve the effect I described (missing character at creation which becomes a bald human).

Perhaps this file is missing for you?

also crash problems.

it crashed very rarely (I mean VERY rarely) before this new patch...now it crashes pretty often..USUALLY in combat when panning camera or when a spell goes off..really ****ING annoying.

any acknowledgment from Bio on these issues??  I've been forced to reduce difficulty to friggin EASY because it doesn't require micro-managing almost any fight...but it's no fun playing that way...higher difficulties just make me crash far too often because of above reasons..it's bull****

It really kind of irritates me when people complain about the companies putting out defective games, and in the same breath demand the game to be put out as soon as possible. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. So you can have a game with bugs and live with the patches or wait for three or more years for them to put out a perfect game. Even if you were willing to wait, why make the rest of us, who want to live with the bugs and patches, wait with you? And, as you say, it is all a matter of profit for EA to ship the game as fast as possible, but you do not consider the cost of hiring techs to cuise throught the posts for bug reports, or the cost of free sites for you to download the patches from. In the long run it would cost EA less money to put out a perfect game, and you a lot more for that game. I'm happy to live with what I got today. I can still afford to buy this game. I'm not Bill Gates!......Now I'M done with my ranting!

Autosave, huh? Interesting. If memory serves I had autosave on but everything else related to online automatic uploads switched off. Anyone feel like being a guinea pig and trying 1.03 with this?

I'll try this. The crashes are really starting to be a problem. At first it was just an irritation, but as the battles get harder, it's actually interferring with progression.

yes however to put a release date to a game that cant be played until the patch 1.03a comes out is just plain rediculous. might as well advertise the release of a patch and not the expansion is my point.

I'm sorry, but can you quote me a single posting in this topic where people have demanded the patch to be fixed and then go on to demand an immediate Awakeings release? If anything, some have stated they would prefer a delayed Awakenings to reduce the introduction of bugs. This thread is about the bugs in patch 1.03, so off-topic remarks like yours do not help to keep the discussion on track.

Think before you rant. Thank you.

Sorry to go against your last part of your post keeping on track, but had to thank you for your post. Lobsang tottaly agree with you.

I also have not seen anyone complain about Awakening's or most any other games release date.  Short of those that delayed forever (When FailSpore(EA) was coming out and like "duke nukem delayed forever").  Anways like many others due to patch 1.03 they lost a sale.  To an extent i guess im glad they released a patch early to keep me from buying the broken game.

I'm glad you can accept a broken game that you can "afford"... odd thing to say but more power to ya.

"live with the patches or wait for three or more years for them to put out a perfect game."

Most big games take over three years by the way.  And patchs fix the bugs that usually don't show up on thier "test systems."  But on less frequent user system errors... (NOTE THE NOW USE OF BETA TESTING)

Not break the game.

PS: I gotta take out a loan when this gets fixed so i can splurge the big bill gates cash on the expansion patch.Image IPB

If you guys want to argue, use the PM system. If you want to report bugs, use this thread.
