There was a time, back in the old days"2 weeks ago" I played Dragon Age Origins, the game went smoothly without any issues, I was preparing this character to continue in Awakening, those were the good old days. Now, awakening is out, patch 1.03 is out and all it did is making my dear computer crash and crash some more...I wish we were back in the good old days, when games actually worked when you bought them...sigh...the old days...

I have not bothered to read everyone's messages but just want to point out since I downloaded the patch the game will now crash every so oftern (within 30 minutes) when I go into the inventory. Hope you guys fix it soon I guess I am going to have to uninstall it and only install the patch before for now.

In DA:O, there seems to be a consistent crash while fighting the Sloth demon, more precisely when it changes from his 3rd to his 4th form, although other crashes while fighting or changing from/to other forms may also occur.

Suggestion: Review all that fight code/scripts. Crashes also happened in versions pre-1.03.

I think this game is simply badly coded and none of these patches can fix that. Sure if you run a 64 bit system with 6Ghz RAM or more you may never get to the point where the memory leak messes up the game, but at 32 bit with 4Ghz RAM which will max out at 3.25Ghz it takes only about 5-10 area loads to start giving problems with loading times and the game getting laggy.

Some could say get a better computer but I can run games like AIon Online at 1600x1200 resolution all day without problems and that's not the only game I play. Sacred 2 has higher spec requirements than DAO but runs a lot better than this game. So as far as I am concerned it is a memory leak issue.

Too bad because the content of the game is good but I am just getting fed up with the loading times, lag and restarting the content updater manually all the time.

1.03 hasn't fixed any of that for me and the game does crash now which it didn't do before. In essence it doesn't matter because the game already gets too sluggish by the time it crashes so I would have to restart the game again.

Memory capacity is measured in Gbs, not Ghz...:P

I had problems with frequent crashes (every 30 min or so) after installing 1.03 over an incrementally patched game. I tried applying the patch to a fresh install and it seems to be stable (or at least more stable, no crashes for over 3 hours in the same areas I couldn't get past for crashes).

Interesting, anyone else tried this? I personally lost my temper and just rolled back to the earlier patch. Might be worth a look for the people presently uninstalling to roll back.

Played 10ish hours with 1.03 till my cleptomania kicked in a noticed pickpocket not working. Reinstalled to 1.02, played some upgraded to 1.03 played some (definition some= 4 plus hours, have the week off) Repeat 3 times with mods, mostly chargen ones and mutator ones. With 1.03 some time lag like behavior, load times increase after hours of play only 1 crash. Think the crash had to do with overloading the memory, was opening tenth tab on IE with DOA windowed in backgound and some other stuff open also. With 1.02 no lag like behavior, load time a third longer then 1.03 and increasing faster, and 1 crash/freeze. But can satisfy my cleptomania.

I made it to what I think is the end of Awakening, after around 10 hours of playtime, with no crashing. I didn't log in and have a firewall blocking any outgoing internet access attempts. Others have mentioned problems with playing while logged in to the DA account. I do have autosaving enabled, so autosaving is not causing any problems for me. I had upgraded to 1.02 as a separate step, prior to installing the 1.03 patch to play Awakening.

I have no slowdowns, up to date drivers, very fast gaming machine. Never had a problem until I installed Awakening. Nvidia SLI 9800 GT

The game has crashed on me 4 times in the first 45 minutes of play, so it's unplayable.

-Can no longer talk to shale, for it gliches out to the beginning of his quest and flips out the textures sending me into unknown world (literally in the game I gotta post some screenshots)

This may not be patch related. I had the same thing happen to me on patch 1.02 as well as having all my DLC disappear from the map (Honnleath and Warden's Keep). Found a solution in one of the stickies in this forum.

I agree it may be an old bug rearing it's head.  Here's the problem though, the solutions (even the developer's console solution) for shale and the Warden's Keep are not working.  The game shows that the DLC is authorised on my system.  Shale can join my party, I just can't talk to him in camp, and I can visit Wardens Keep fine and have all the items, yet the quest giver is still in the camp with a quest mark over his head as though the Warden's Keep content had never been completed.

It would be nice to get some feedback from Bioware here, as Awakening automatically installs this patch whether you want it or not.  Tis, more an a little bit frustrating, but hey bugs happen. Heck this post is full of bugs (i.e spelling/grammar mistakes) due to tireness, and I'm sure the dev's get tired to. I guess I'm just dissapointed because I want to get back into the game again.

I played a total of more than 120 hours on Dragon age, the game crashed only two times, one because i did something wrong (Starting an other game that free resources if it don't have enough to run smoothly : it crashed Dragon Age to free some ram) and second time after playing 20 hours in a row Dragon age (dunnow what was the reason, i just restarted the game and played few more hours)

With this patch, the game just crash for no reason during fights

Interestingly, last nite my DAO didn't crash running on patch 1.03. That is after I have updated my ATI video driver from the version 9 (package) to version 10. Pickpocket still broken though.

Edit: I am using ATI 5850.

Patch failed on install (gave error code 36). Now it won't load my save game, telling me RTO isn't loaded and I'll have to force load.

For those having slowdowns and crashes:
-- Are you playing with characters created after installing 1.03? Or patched over characters?
-- Are you running any mods?
-- Is it related to a specific area or event (ie Denerim or opening inventory)?

I had very bad slowdowns after updating my current characters to 1.03, in Denerim and the Final Battle. The issue usually started in battle but would persist afterward, especially when looting corpses and cutscenes would take longer and longer to load up. Not running any mods.

After creating new characters on 1.03, I haven't had any sign of lag yet and only 1 crash. Hopefully, it keeps up.

Lookin to me to be all memory related. I had few problems at 8 g ram and 2g ram video , sirPalamedes few at 6g ram 1g ram video( nice card), Wolfwarp I think has the computer to go with ATI 5850 no crashes.

I got my copy of awakening.  I had DoA pathched to 1.02.  When i tried to install awakening, it applied the 1.03 patch, the promptly gave me a screen that said awakening installation failed.  Has this happened to anyone?

Since I downloaded the 1.03 patch all hell has broken loose, still. Seven hours ago I created a new character and now every 10 to 15 minutes the game crashes to the desktop. I am currently in the Burning Tower, in the fade.

I have yet to receive the Awakening disk from GameSpot --that which was mailed out on Monday. Hopefully by years end I will get it and Bioware will have fixed all of the bugs. "We can only hope!"

Check This Thread.

This is exactly what happened to me.  I had to force load and loose a lot of ingame stuff.  Return to Ostagar for one... I wanted to see what difference it mightmake to have Alistair wearing Kin Calins Armor at the Lansmeet!  Now Its gone....
