Since this patch is obviously epic fail, i suggest everyone do this for now: Reinstall the game and only patch to 1.02a.

...and not play the 40$ xpac they just bought

Perhaps Bioware could divulge what machines/tech their testers play on so we could avoid this run-around and you know, actually play the game we purchased. >:(
I simply cannot believe that such a inept patch could be deemed ready to launch.

Not only is my game having horrible game-breaking graphics lag and stuttering, as well as numerous ctd's, it is now experiencing the "progressively longer loading screens" that the patch was supposed to fix. Minus the latter, I suffered none of these before 1.03. Please communicate your current situation in regards to a reversion/hotfix as mine (and others I'm sure) patience is wearing very thin.

My specs are once again:

  • Processor: AMD Phenom™ 9500 Quad-Core Processor 2.2GHz
  • RAM: 6GB
  • Videocard: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT, 512MB VRAM, Driver version 197.15
  • OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
  • DirectX 11

My spec's
  • Processor: Intel Quad core 8200
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Videocard: BFG GTX 280 1gb vram latest drivers
  • OS: Microsoft Windows Vista 32 bit
  • DirectX 10
I as well had no issues before this patch. In the patch notes they mentioned fixing long load times from 1.2 I don't even remember such a thing it ran flawlessly before. With this patch I get the following issues (as many as I can remember there are a lot...)

- CTD's any moment (gamebreaking)
- Corrupted save files (gamebreaking)
- Long load times, get longer the longer I play
- Quest bugs galore
- Graphics lag and stuttering especially during cutscenes
- Glitched animations
- etc....etc...

So...lets think about this. People using nearly every supported OS and enough people with various hardware to justify saying nearly any PC build potentially suffers from some, or many of the issues listed by so many. It's safe to assume Bioware was well aware of the issues. I doubt they were too stupid to have seen them....I just think someone decided they really didn't care enough to have everything fixed and to launch it anyway. As the customer of this transaction I feel like I have been done a great disservice and now greatly mistrust this company.

I am honestly dazzled, I have played awakening and noticed no problems, then I said to myself, "I wonder how would be awakening diffrent if loghain lived and anora married alistar" and so I played Origins again, again no bugs, it also seemed to me that loading times are now much much shorter(getting longer after about 3 hours), Only one crash through entire playthrough. So I was kind of happy about it. Sorry to hear about your troubles and I hope BW will fix them for ya all.

I confirmed that it's the patch. I re-installed the game without Awakening or Patch 1.03, and the game runs again as smooth as water.

Jallard is correct though. He has a right to be angry.

You may belittle his opinion that he had to pay good money for the game and is now angry that he has a defective product like the rest of us.
But really, whats the angle of that opinion?
Your a real man and don't cry?
Your sitting on a pile of cash, and thus, it doesn't concern you?
Or your part of the growing, younger generation that just bends over and takes whatever is spooned out, and says nothing of injustice for fear of being labeled a 'cry baby'.

No wonder the worlds going down the gurgler.

Without accountability, and more importantly, Pride in your work, this is what you get.
A total mess.

Will,

You're right he has a right to be angry, but having made his point, going on and on about it over and over again gets a tad tedious.  It wasn't his opinion or his right to be angry that I was taking the micky out of, but rather his entitlement atttitude that got up my nose.

You make a lot of assumptions in your post, most of which are wrong. Believe or not, as I have said in an earlier post, I'm not happy about this  either, and btw the bugs in this patch effect me too.  However sometimes messes occur. Life's like that.  Forever moaning and groaning about it like Jallad is doing doesn't achieve anything, and to be blunt is more than a tad bit irritating.

As for what's my angle, simple, my angle is this, patience. The problems with this patch are not the end of the world, there are workarounds, annoying yes, but they are there.  This is not the end of the world, and forever acting like the victim and moaning and groaning about it isn't productive.

Still, I was wrong in making the post I made, and I apologise. I'm subscribed to this thread and waiting for Bioware to answer, (which I believe they will in time). Continuously receiving email updates about this thread, only to find, that once again it's just another post by Jallard saying exactly the same thing he's said in every other post annoyed me, a lot. Sorry if I offended you. In the interests of harmony I've removed the post.

When you are retired and working part time to keep your head above water spending a lot of money on a any product, the product better work. The notion today that corporate america can produce crap, sell it and get away with it is unacceptable. As someone pointed out to me regarding the Toyota remark that I had made, in reference to the aforementioned was, "The part that keeps failing on the Toyota was probably made here in America."

Look at the the largest banks here in the States they are not held accountable for their actions either. In fact, Congress pats them on the back and gives them billions of dollars. So, why woudn't other American corporations screw over he consumer for the sake of a dollar in revenue?

It is sad to think that our lives are so dependent upon the all might and failing dollar and that because of it we have become complacent and frightened about rocking the proverbial boat --for fear of loosing that failing dollar. Yet, I speak here about refusing delivery of the the Awakening disk, from GameSpot; when it and if it arrives; knowing full well that they will never refund my $39.99.

That all being said, I do apologize for my ranting and will stop herewith. Thank you all for patiennce and understanding.

Agreed heartily, however the issue is not only an American one. That's just me being pedantic though. I also can't help but feel that EA (American market ideals, etc) has poorly influenced Bioware (partly Canadian).

That saddens me as well. Although I was born and raised here in the States, my ancestory is French (Quebec) Canadian and I have always felt a kinship towards Canada.

Jallard and Valsung,

I just wish to make one point and then let this matter drop, simply because I don't want to derail this thread.  The point is this, given the nature of computer software it's entirely possible that this patch (and the expansion pack) wasn't released with the intent to mess up people's game play and make a quick buck.   Whilst I can understand your points of view, I disagree with the position that you cast EA and Bioware in here.

Yes they messed up with this patch. However, we don't know what happened.  To automatically accuse Bioware and EA of rushing out a shoddy product simply to take advantage of the consumer, and to say that they take no pride in their product is in my opinion, over the top.  There are any number of reasons why no one from Bioware has commented on this thread, even though  they have commented elsewhere that they are reading the forums and gathering data on the bugs present within the game.  It's the assumption, that because this product is buggy, Bioware/EA must have intended to rip us off, that I take issue with. We simply don't have the information available to us about what is happening behind the scenes to come to that type of conclusion.

Anyway back to the topic at hand, bugs. I can happily report, that after playing the game for around three hours solid,  I haven't had any crashes at all since disabling autosave and every feature in the online tab.

This is getting really irritating now. It keeps crashing during the archdemon battle! Every time I get close to beating it, it crashes to desktop. ;_; Why are you doing this to me Bioware? Whyyy?

I've got frequent crashes, too. Unfortunately, Steam autoupdated the game when i decided i wanted to play it again. Right now it's not really playable any more. Is there any word from Bioware about a fix?

I just said fine and dandy in an other thread to finetune the graphics in case you crash, but I am just done installing 1.03 and my 1200x963 or whatever it was resolution looks like 812x768 :s

Besides that, the graphics are very bad :s

'Haven't tried long enough yet whether it crashes now suddenly too, but... :s

In the french forum (where I do come from), someone has an issue with the locked chests.

He can't open some of them (the hardest in fact), his 4 characters got the "Device Mastery" talents with a higher cunning rank. Before the 1.03, he managed to open all of them.

So I presume this is the last chain of this talent that is broken by the patch 1.03.

Does anyone has meet the same issue? With chest or traps?

Come to think of it I have been noticing that lately as well. The chest that Leliana could open at one time no longer works. In addition, there are times when she cannot undo traps let alone spot them. It seems random. Also, there are times when I will click on a spell to activate it and nothing happens. The other thing too is that sometimes one of the characters on my team won't move when prompted to, despite the fact there are no enemy Mages present to deliver hex spell. The other thing too is that during certain situations when I set my team to lock-down --stationary--they will still charge the enemy. Again, this is random.

I just verified that the Force Load method to make DLC items (Blood Dragon Armor, various Promo items) appear in your inventory doesn't appear to work anymore with Patch 1.03. While it does close a loophole that some people could exploit, given the other problems with DLC disappearing it makes it even harder to get stuff back after its gone.

Are you (or anyone) anywhere near some traps? I have a possible fix, but I don't want to play all the way back to test it. If you want to be a tester, check the project page.

Me too. just keep trying. I know it can be very frustrating. Too bad the gaming experience is ruined this way. I got the final battle completed after quite a few crashes. worse comes to worse, rollback to patch 1.02a?

I still think that BioWare rushed out the patch due to Awakening launch. without the new patch, the expansion wouldn't work. Funny thing is even if I haven't got Awakening installed, I can see new abilities for my pets on the tactic screen. Surely this can't be an intended feature tested for rollout. Can it be?

Right - Now I've noticed that Dog has picked up the same glitch as Stealing, It says I have got something but nothing is added to the inventory.

On a new playthrough as a Warrior and had no crashes up until the Circle Tower. Just then, during a battle with an Abomination, the game froze and crashed to desktop.

I had Autosave turned off so that solution does not work.

C'mon, BioWare. Say something...

Having issues as well, probably linked to the patch since my game was perfectly fine before I installed Awakening.

Started a new Origins playthrough as human noble and got to Circle Tower without too many problems, then in the battle with the Sloth Demon my game eats itself when he's supposed to turn to shade form. Hoping for a fix soon? :\\

Last night I installed the Full DirectX 9 runtime from Microsoft. And I did not crash all the way through the end fight and epilogue. I have no idea if this is a definite fix, but it seems to have improved my framerate and I haven't crashed yet.

I'll play through some other sections later and see if this truly worked for me.

Pardon my ignorance, how does "install full directX 9 runtime" work?  My video card supports directX 11 so I guess it is packaged with my video driver? And backward compatable?
