The situation is unacceptible.
*It seems everything that EA touches, it corrupts. EA is the blight.
With Dragon Age 2 slated for a 2011 release, I would imagine the reason why an explanation is not forthcoming is a question of man- and not willpower. EA set deadlines that have to be met. For BioWare to break silence would be to identify with the issue and pledge support - something they seem to be in no position to offer when you take into consideration the number of bugs that are present in Dragon Age: Origins.
*I cite the graveyard of studios EA has left in its wake as evidence to support the above claim.
Makes me sick.
I have decided I will never buy awakening now instead of just waiting.
I bought it out of faith. You're not missing anything.

Agreed, the stability and plethora of other issues in 1.03 bears the taint of EA's "Hmmm, the game isn't finished, let's release it anyway" creed. No developer sets out to make a bad game, or break what is not broken, however if they are not given adequate time to test and run through the QA process this is what happens.InebriatedPizza wrote...
This is not the quality of service you come to expect from a AAA developer. The lack of communication on BioWare's part speaks for itself.

Nice to see Bioware has it's priorities, crappy DLC and some half assed attempt for a birthday celebration over a patch to make it's game functional.

Hi,
I encountered similar CTD's problem with fallout 3 that where solved with the trick provided here (thanks to NMC and Madboris):
http://www.fallout3n...ile.php?id=6510
I used the same solution for the main dragon age executable (daorigins.exe) and ... big ammélioration, only 1 CTD after more than 6 hours playing (before I couldn't play more than 10 mn).
How it works:
Windows 7 64 bits is able to address large memory space (in my case I hace 12 GB memory), "standard" win32 executable can't use more than 2 GB of memory.
Sometimes, when memory space is exhausted, it may cause CTD's and other bad things.
The files provided for fallout 3 by NMC can be used to patch the header of any executable, including the dragon age exe file, to make it able to exceed the 2 GB memory limit.
It is quite simple:
1) download the archive on the provided link
2) edit the start.bat file and replace any occurence of "fallout3.exe" with "daorigins.exe"
3) IMPORTANT: make a backup of your daorigin.exe file
4) copy the file in the folder where you have extracted the 3 GB enabler files
5) execute the modified start.bat and follow the instructions
6) move the patched daorigins.exe in your fallout 3 bin directory, replacing the original file.
WARNING: If you are using a 32 bit OS, you also need to allow large memory address at system level via boot.ini edition. Please read the readme included in the archive
Note: no reverse engineering here, just a modification of the header.
Please, let me know if it solved your CDT as it solved mine.
Best regards and have fun with Dragon Age,
P.S.: I imagine it will not help for any quest related bugs

Will definitely be trying this as part of my attempts this weekend.
Thx, akanounnikoff!
Here's my (disappointing) update on testing of 1.02 -> 1.03 changes/bugs.
The only progress I've been able to make this week (other commitments, and all that) is negative. I ran right into a massive "D-oh!" (palm smacks forehead) event. After finally getting DA:O to install *and* start in a VM environment, I was presented with what should have been an obvious, "No way around that!" obstacle.
Regardless of how much horsepower in the host system (CPU, GPU, whatever...) MS V-PC operates with an S3 Trio emulated video card at 8MB (possibly hackable to 16MB) of VRAM. Can you say "underpowered"? DA:O does try to start, then just halts with an "unsupported video card" error message.
So it's back to full un-install/re-install on the "real" box. I'm at 1.02 again, and will attempt to get a listing of the files that are changed by 1.03 over the weekend. If anyone know specific folders that can be ignored when evaluating the changes, please let me know.
Will provide more when there's someting to report.

I have also noticed that imported charaters that have the blood powers, accessed through drinking the potion in Wardens Keep, are bugged. They do not seem to dunction as they should and the character sheet reports them as unknown class. Is this just a flaw with imported characters?

Like everyone else here, having issues with slowdown, lag and lots and lots of crashes and random shutdowns (usually the shutdowns occur when I'm almost at the killing blow of a major fight like flemeth or witherfang, or when i make a dialogue choice that will effect the overall outcomes of the game).
Im sure you have heard this stuff before, but just adding my bug info to the pile.
Oh and please please please, don't keep the dialogue format of Awakenings for DA2, I hates it I do :-(

Though, after installing the new patch, I can't select any of my armies at the end of the game when you go into Denerim. Has anyone else had that problem?

QTF. I too am disappointed. But then again, they have to meet the timeline of the "feast" (and the timeline of Awakening).
What I really wish BioWare / EA to reply is whether or not they will do anything to fix the patch 1.03 issue. If they are not going to do that, I ain't gonna wait around and hope for a fix prior to purchasing the Awakening and the Feastday DLC and just give up on Dragon Age 1 franchise. But if they are going to fix it in say X number of months from now, sure, I will be back.

QFT. Timelines are contrived. An ethical company releases products when they're ready, not when some pencil pusher decides it's fiscally advantageous. I doubt less people would have bought the latest DLC if it had come out sometime after April 1. Only in the software industry is it okay to sell a product with the promise of fixing it tomorrow. I suspect the buggy release of 1.03 will ultimately affect BioWare's sales for Dragon Age 2. I certainly won't buy it until I read favorable reviews.wolfwarp wrote...

As for buying this 'Feast' I wouldn't buy it. My DH got it free for his PS3 and in my opinion it's rubbish I wouldn't even download it if was free for the PC as well, I thought it was that boring.

I have uninstalled the game and installed DA:O again, but I keep getting the same error message.
Somebody has any idea how to fix this?

Every time I load my save and start fighting the Darkspawn gethered round the towers courtyard before you get to the main gate the game crashes to Desktop game play durimng every attempt to fix it bar re-install with 1.02 has resulted in 10 seconds or less worth of game time so pretty much unable to play at all.
Unless I re-install of course but its now been almost 3 weeks since these bug's were reported I cannot understand how or why its gone on so long Biowares normaly being great with patches and information gathering this is starting to shakle my faith in them I wont be buying awakening anytime soon.
