24 days of a broken game and this Feast Day is released.

Nice to see Bioware has it's priorities, crappy DLC and some half assed attempt for a birthday celebration over a patch to make it's game functional.

QTF.  I too am disappointed.  But then again, they have to meet the timeline of the "feast" (and the timeline of Awakening).

What I really wish BioWare / EA to reply is whether or not they will do anything to fix the patch 1.03 issue.  If they are not going to do that, I ain't gonna wait around and hope for a fix prior to purchasing the Awakening and the Feastday DLC and just give up on Dragon Age 1 franchise.  But if they are going to fix it in say X number of months from now, sure, I will be back.

QFT. Timelines are contrived. An ethical company releases products when they're ready, not when some pencil pusher decides it's fiscally advantageous. I doubt less people would have bought the latest DLC if it had come out sometime after April 1. Only in the software industry is it okay to sell a product with the promise of fixing it tomorrow. I suspect the buggy release of 1.03 will ultimately affect BioWare's sales for Dragon Age 2. I certainly won't buy it until I read favorable reviews.

Yep.  Unless BioWare / EA redeem themselves by fixing the patch, I think it is going to hurt their DLC business for DAO.  It is a pity though cuz I think DAO's DLC seems more interesting than ME 2's DLC.  I guess this is lost-lost for both BioWare / EA and us. Prior to this patch 1.03, I would just buy every single DLC BioWare / EA releases.

DA 2 is a tricky business - to buy on day 1 or not to buy.  The release may be stable (like DAO) but they may mess up the subsequent patches.  Still a dead end to us PC gamers.

Speaking as such, the lousy patch 1.03 does not affect XBox and PS3 players, it seems.  At least not the crashing bits.  Does it mean that PC gamers are the minority that no longer do we get their focus?  From what I observe, this is the signal BioWare and EA are sending.

Too bad, really.

I had Fernando Melo respond to an angry post of mine yesterday. I have no idea why they're still reluctant to officially respond to 1.03 issues or announce 1.04 but his response is official enough for me and raises my hopes greatly.

Game is crashing randomly but constantly. Deleted all my addons, even started a new character. Problem seems to happen anywhere between 2 - 20 mins into playing whilst in combat

I have patch 1.03 as of last night, and i also am experiencing game crashes every 5-10min. usually during combat or right after is when this occurs, but i've also had crashes while just standing there or walking around. i hope EA/Bioware decide to fix this patch soon.

I'm sure it's not a matter of "deciding to fix" the issues but rather gathering data, identifying the bugs, fixing them and then testing the fixes so they can provide an update that makes the game better rather than worse. This takes time, especially when you consider the fact that they have to coordinate this over three platforms. This is not meant to excuse Bioware's complete (until Fernando Melo's post yesterday) lack of voicing any recognition of the problems caused by the 1.03 update, despite previous assurances (by Victor Wachter) that communication would be more forthcoming.

Beyond the issues introduced in 1.03, Bioware has failed to "decide to fix" certain bugs that have persisted since day one, many of which have to do with incorrect or uninvoked scripts that already exist in the game.  Why they continue to pass on these fixes is beyond me.  Specifically, I am referring to all of the bugs that refer to effects that are not implemented, but have resources in the game (e.g. weakens darkspawn, increased/decreased intimidation/hostility, healing effects increased, messy kills, haste's effect on ranged weapon attack speed, etc.)  I am familiar with the software product cycle, both in development and QFE/sustained engineering, but these seem like low-hanging fruit, so I don't understand how they can not make the bar for any of the patch milestones.  Fixing these issues (after cleaning up the mess that is 1.03) would simply make the game much, much better.  Fixing/enabling content that already exists in the game scripts and code certainly seems like a more sensible thing to do than say, introducing frilly, nonsense content just to earn a few more bucks.

Are we ever going to get a patch to fix the CTD issues? This is the only game I have a problem with!

When I saw this DLC instead of a patch I really felt pranked like never before.

I've noticed some issue with the character portrait generation since 1.03. The pictures that should be uploaded to the social site are often totally black. I've also lost the portraits of 2 of my characters and I haven't played with them since 1.03.

Yes and mine look like the neon lights of Broadway!  Sheese.  I think they may have unfixed somthing they fixed before.   Prior to this patch they had the same issues then I think one of the other patches seemed to cure this problem.
But here we are again.   As a wiseman once said, "the hurrier you go the behinder you get!".

As promised last week, I've created a listing of the files that changed when patching from 1.02a to 1.03.

It's posted in the "Projects" section of this site, url: http://social.bioware.com/project/2479,

Title: "Changed FIle List (1.02 - 1.03)"

Both ".txt" and annotated ".doc" (uploaded as a ".rar") are available.

As one might expect, the vast majority of the changes were to ".rim" files found in

"Dragon Age\\modules\\single player\\data".

Not sure if this will help anyone make headway with the CtD (or other) issues, but it might!

Is there anyway to make a mod that overrides the changed files with the old ones so those of us on Steam can revert to the previous patch?

Just to add my 2 pence worth, I am also experiencing the CTD errors. I played DA:O through twice with patch 1.0-1.02a and got maybe 1 random crash, in over 100 hours of gaming. In my third (patch 1.03) playthrough in the 48 hours it took me to complete I got about 100 crashes. That is no exaggeration.

In short, pretty much ruined my playthrough. I had to fight the Archdemon on "Easy" as the game wasn't stable enough for me to battle it for longer than a few minutes. Totally lick's balls. Also I can't be arsed now to go through Awakening, which I just bought.

So I'm currently reinstalling DA:O with patch 1.02a until this ****storm gets sorted. Then I'll play Awakening. Bioware, you do good things, don't **** it up now. Even though I hear the continuity between Origins and Awakening is terrible...:( I think ima just play the "Warden from Orlais". Keep my Origins toon for DA2.

I keep getting LOADS of crashes with this patch 1.03. Never had a single crash before after 80+ hours of gameplay. Runing Windows 7 64bit. Really shame Awakening forces you to download this patch or I would never install it! Was much better before this patch.

Yeah man, I'm on Win7x64 too. Shame that the patch totally messes your enjoyment factor up. Won't be playing Awakening till it's sorted.

I'm like 15 minutes in Awakening and it already crashed on me, pretty much had no crashes with Origins. Another big issue was I somehow lost certain important items from my imported char like Starfang and armor. Is this all due to the 1.03 patch? Really bummed right now.

Some DLC-items will not be imported, as example all stuff from the keep. Stafang was made by the smith of the keep, so it belongs into that category. Other DLC-items will be imported, like all the stuff you find in RtO,
I don't think, that this is a bug, just a very strange design. Nobody can understand that, except the dev, whose descision it was - well, hopefully at least this person is still able to comprehend own ways of thinking.

PS.: There is a fix, made by users. Look here

In all fairness I care more about the CTD issue than the pickpoket bug. I've playing it through 3 times now and only ever pickpocketed anyone for the achievment. Pretty useless skill tbh.

oh true, but its still a part of the game that doesn't work so deserves a mention. The crashing every half hour is far more important... and annoying :-P

I'm having a problem getting my Dragon Age: Origins game to run after installing the 1.03 patch. I believe this problem had occurred with 1.02 patch as well. Its preventing me from playing the game as it is locking the play function when the game is run. Does anyone have a solution or at least a pointer to watch page on this thread to look at to get a solution?

Win7x64 . Right now I'm stuck in the game, because it crashes constantly during some boss fight, and I can't move on.

Hi,

Did u (and all CTD's victims) tried this:
http://social.biowar...3999/31#2037048

It fixed nearly all CTD's in my case (I am also in win7 64 bit with patch 1.03).

The game was nearly unplayable (crashed every 5 or 10 mn), now, with this trick, it is nice (only one CTD after 6 hours playing).

Regards,

Well I'm really surprised that this has not been fixed by
now. I got a great deal on Awakening ($24) last week, and I was really hoping
that 1.03a would be out by now. How many people complaining about this messed
up patch does it take to get some kind of response from EA/Bioware? I see even
the moderator has stopped posting. I'd really like to know just how many of us
PC gamers are having problems with this patch. Looking at this thread, and I've
read ever one since it started., it seems to me that this has to be a HUGE
problem because it effects just about every type of PC config possible.

I could almost understand if it was an XP, Intel, ATI, AMD,
or Nvidia config problem, but this thing is messing with all PC's across the
board.

 I guess my question
is why isn't EA/Bioware at lest throwing us a bone and letting us know they are
at lest looking into the problem.

 Also maybe if we put
or heads together we can come up with a way to get through to EA about this
problem. E-mailing doesn’t seem to work, so maybe there's something we can do.
Something that will get there attention,

Also, I'm really disappointed that in all the reviews I've
read about Awakening. Not one has mentioned the problem we are having. This has
to have been a problem for some of the guy’s reviewing the game. This is total
BS if you ask me.

Also what makes this even worse is that this is a very well
done RPG and is a lot of fun to play as long as you are sticking with the 1.02a
patch. I'm just bummed because I just finished the game last week and I really
want to keep going with Awakening, but I'm not going to mess up my game because
I want to play through using a different race.

Come on EA help us out. Pretty please with sugar on top!

OK quick poll. How many of you that have been burned by this
patch plan not to buy the next DA game, or Awakening and it's DLC?
