It's all BS anyway. EA is liken to the darkspawn, stealing our money and toying with our gameplay. EA Tech support can't fix it, so they want to give me a credit towards another game. I told them to stick it! I just want to play a bug free DAO.
I have been emailing support and the best they have some up with is 1) empty the temp application files folder and 2) tell me that Dragon Age was not tested on win 7 so bad luck
No offer of credit for me!
Every mail I tell them that my issue only appeared with 1.03 but it appears to be ignored. Its never mentioned.

I don't know what they're thinking when they tell people this. Looking at the back of my box, it clearly states under the System Requirements and Recommneded Specs:
OS: Windows XP (SP3) or Windows Vista (SP1) or Windows 7.
I'd be asking how come Windows 7 is a recommended OS if the game wasn't tested on it.

I will quote the response, "Thank you again for getting back to us. Unfortunately the game is not tested on Windows 7 or 64 bit environment."
I explained I have no issues with 1.02 and before and quoted this thread as evidence that perhaps that fault lies with an issue in 1.03. It is flatly ignored. I bought all the DLC for DA:O But I will not buy awakening with the game unplayable for me as it is. Why no help from EA?

bravo...since patch 1.03 regular crashes...great...
also i have now to activate the goddamn service manually otherwise my downloaded extracontent
won't show etc...(which took me hours to find out due forumssearching cause Bioware also didn't care about win7)
Bioware, com'on guys. I just bought DOA Awakening, it was JUST released and you completely ignore all the win7 people out there?!?! Are you serios?
I was such a fan of DOA until now, this really ruins everything...
(And i cannot even go back to version 1.02 cause "Awakening" won't run anymore!!!!)
And guess what, if you want full power of your pc OF COURSE you run win7 and x64 - nobody can tell me that's
rare or the ecception! I mean besides every new PC and Notebook in 2010 comes with win7 now!
You earn money with the expansion DOA Awakening so it's only fair you put some of it in investigating the patchbugs and do some testing on win7!
Sad to see...going from game of the year to bug of the year?

Flies in the face of what they've printed on the box. Brutal.

I have the game loaded on my Win7 rig, but only updated to 1.02. No issues so far. I'm going to wait for another patch or hotfix before I update though, since I have 1.03 on my Win XP rig and I can't stand the broken pick pocket skill (I like playing Rogues). I've luckily not had crash issues on the XP rig, but I don't want to risk it on the Win7 rig, especially since it's 64 bit and I've seen a lot of reports of problems with Win7 64 bit and patch 1.03.

I have read through all 34 pages to this thread - so many are affected - why is there no response from Bioware / EA? Amazing.
Well, there are multiple threads about these problems. Perhaps they are too intimidated now, stick their heads into the dust and wait, until the storm is over. Who knows...

Propably...
BTW, since 1.03, I have problems too, but my problems are very small, compare with problems of others...
Game crasher "only" every 2-3 hour and "The Landsmeet" crash as well (but no problem - after 4 hours of trying, reinstalling atc., it worked again - by chance i guess)...
Greeeeat work, Bioware, really, great work...

I went back to play Risen again...it's nice to actually stay on a game for 16 hours non stop and not have to restart the computer a dozen times.
I pop back on here from time to time hoping to see some news of progress but meh...

its been a month, anyone esle would have released patch weeks ago. I'm guessing EA has bioware working on the next paid DLC rip-off
the game is basically unplayable, i need to save at every battle and crash at every other one

Just to add onto this thread so that this is not lost. The crash problem is NOT confined to Win 7 or 64 bits. I am using Vista 32 bits and the DAO patch 1.03 has been crashing my otherwise very stable game.
Yeah, I wasn't trying to imply it was only on Win7 64. It just seems that it's quite common on that platform, so I was avoiding updating to 1.03 on my Win7 rig until a new patch is out. Basically, I'm trying to bypass Murphy's Law. Since I'm not having crash issues with 1.03 on my XP rig, I don't want to push my luck and chance it on my Win7 machine.
I know tons of people on other OSes are also reporting crash issues.

I would do the same but as I bought the steam version it automatically patches to the 1.03 version - and I can NOT revert... So its the worst scenario ever - 1 month without DA, with the problem brought on by a rogue patch with no way for me to revert...

I got similar response when asking EA support.
I've bought all the DLC for DA-O but as of 1.03 I'm unable to play and I'm in same boat bought through steam so auto patches straight to the recent version I was planning on getting the Awakening expansion but I've put those plans on hold.
Just to add some more info for the operating systems list I was running the game fine no crashes fo as long as I wanted to play on 1.02 now with 1.03 unable to play at all crashes to Desktop after about 1-2mins play time continuously no matter what I've tried to do to fix it.
Operating system Vista Home Premium 64x.

I'm willing to give this fix a try. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the exe file to change. I have a DAOriginsLauncher.exe file and a daorigins.exe file (note the S on the end). Should I be modifying one of these files? If so, do I need to change the script in the start.bat file? Or am I just looking in the wrong place? Thanks for your help.
Hi,
Please modify the header of daorigins.exe file, the missing "s" is a typo error, maybe the 1.03 patched has affected my keyboard too
You have to modify start.bat, replacing fallout3.exe with daorigins.exe before to run against the file.
Hope it will help,

Please, let me know if it solved your CDT as it solved mine.
Kaspersky detects the modification as a keylogger. Under no circumstances follow akanounnikoff's advice.

I think that Bioware is aware of the faulty nature of the game and cannot really fix it. I would say that is why they have already announced dragon age 2 which will probably be coded differently. I remember a similar scheme with empire total war wherein empire was real buggy but Napoleon seemed to be tuned better.
Mass Effect 2 is EA and Bioware's cash cow for now since it is easier to code a shooter than a ARPG. What flames me is that everybody in the gaming industry are not really reporting anything disastrous with the game and are doing interviews with people from bioware who promote future stuff for the game, yet in interviews there is no mention of how the game seem to be broken for a big bunch of people. Nor Bioware coming here and offering an olive branch to people but still wanting to cash in on the game.
I think at some point people are gonna get real fed up with this game and how it is handled and it will die a quick and horrible death, which in truth would sadden me. I do not want to see this game fail because it as tremendous potential but horrible after sales service.
