I'd be asking how come Windows 7 is a recommended OS if the game wasn't tested on it.
I tried this just after you mentioned it (2 days ago). This is what I wrote:
" It clearly states under the System Requirements and Recommended Specs:
OS: Windows XP (SP3) or Windows Vista (SP1) or Windows 7.
So what do you mean "Unfortunately the game is not tested on Windows 7 or 64 bit environment." I find myself increasingly frustrated."
Since then I have no reply from EA.

How do i roll back from 1.03 to 1.02a. Im a total noob at tech stuff plz help
Uninstall everything, reinstall ONLY DA:O, patch up to 1.02a and DO NOT install Awakening, because it automatically patches to 1.03.

If you're on Steam and you don't have a backup before the patch, you're hosed. If you're on the retail boxed version there is no rollback as such, you just have to back up your saves and uninstall and then reinstall using the old patch.

I installed the 1.03 patch a few days ago and at first it seemed fine. The battles were playing ok and I had no other problems until i had Wynne use Vessel of the Spirit. every time I use the skill the game crashes. Anyone else having this problem?
6GB RAM
Yes, apparently many do - from casting certain spells to random crashes. For as long as a month for now. So, you are not alone!
Reinstall the game to 1.02a if you can. But that means no Awakening and new DLC for you. I have made peace with it. It seems no news on the acknowledge of the issue nor patch in the horizon.

Its pretty pathethic that theres still no official responce regarding this issue, bioware is about to launch a mmorpg title and they really need to shape up their community responce times if they intend to have any success in that market as you cant leave customers hanging for month's (we just enterd the plural prefix) without at least acknowledging that the issue(-es) are known and beeing adressed.
/agree
The social network like Twitter and Facebook and etc. and bloggers worldwide will hurt them for sure, if they don't get their acts together.

I agree 100% with this statement. Granted I expect Bioware & Lucas to devote much more resources to tech and client support for that project than they do with Dragon Age, but it honestly is very disconcerting to see them seemingly handle one of their properties with such a laissez-faire attitude.
Bugs and CTDs, which I've also been experiencing mostly while casting AOE spells in busy fights, are annoying in a single player RPG. This is somewhat mitigated though by the save functionality and the inherent nature of not being up against a clock while playing alone so to speak. For an MMO though issues like this would be completely backbreaking and I can guarantee you having them persist through a subsciption period, would be disastrous for renewals.

I'm not a silver-lining guy, so know this isn't a benefit when I say this purchase has taught me to be even more discerning and prudent when it comes to making any gaming purchase. Next time, I'll make sure to wait until the price drops as is my usual practice, especially when it comes to purchasing Bioware product.

Kaspersky detects the modification as a keylogger. Under no circumstances follow akanounnikoff's advice.
OMG !
The code is provided on falloutnexus site, tons of guys use it to modify the fallout3.exe header and... it works.
I am a senior IT architect and have checked the provided files (and patched exe) with 3 different anti-virus solutions (symantec, mc afee and avast).
I guess that kaspersky sucks (on more false positive) but as security is something serious I have just done an hexa comparison of the 2 files with ultra compare professional:
Here is the output:
=============================
Nom du premier fichier : D:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\daorigins.exe
Nom du second fichier : D:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\daorigins.exe.orig
2 : 2 Octet(s) diff
10188518 Octet(s) identique(s)
10188520 : 10188520 Octet(s) au total
2 octet (bytes) are differents, both in the header (where the modification is done).
Everyone can do the same verification, ultra compare is a shareware.
So, no keylogguer at all, if you manage to code a keyloguer in 2 bytes in the header of a file, I swear I can give you a place of lead developper in my company !
But, sorry, will have no place for guys that are not enough serious to verify the informations they give.
Regards,

Bump. I use my copy of Awakening as a coaster now. And DA:O is a nice decoration to collect dust on my desk. What happened to Bioware...I once loved them so dearly for the amazing polished games that one would remember for a lifetime. Now I just want to forget about losing $40 for a piece of crap bugged out expansion. That along with the patch now having ruined even DA:O.

I feel bad for you. In a way, I am "glad" that I have installed 1.03 towards the end of my first playthrough with DAO. OK, that ruined the game experience. And it was frustration to what would have been such a great ending to the game that I have spent 90 hours playing, 1 playthrough. But also serves as a warning NOT to buy Awakening or any future BioWare Dragon Age franchise till they have got their quality level up.

Regards,
Amen to that!
I didn't do as through a comparison as Ak, but as an IT security professional, I did do a quick check of the resulting file size vs. the original and came to the conclusion that "if someone could plant anything dangerous in that little code, *and* leave the underlying program operating correctly, *and* fix the problem with that program in the exact manner advertised, I want to meet that person!" (In other words, I wasn't worried about any malware.)
So, I've been running with the mem-manager-header hacked version of "daorigins.exe" for about 16 hours of game play with ZERO CtD. Haven't had enough graphics/effect-intensive interaction to be willing to declare victory over this particular (and to my mind, most egregious) 1.03 bug, but it's definitely looking that way.
And on a seperate but related rant I've noticed recently in this thread, the value (or lack thereof) in the "Feast Day" DLC: I saw it was nothing more than a way for people who don't want to learn/hassle with the console command "zz runscript_addapproval" to play around with different approval ratings without having to start over. And USD3 for the additional story bits ("Chastity Belt" for Zev was priceless!) was cheap, although I wouldn't have paid much more.
Again, my thanks to akanounnikoff for pointing the way to a solution that allowed me to once again enjoy my (current) favorite PC RPG and potentially turn my USD40 coaster into yet more fun.

Just ran into an interesting one that I had not in several previous pre-1.03 patch play-throughs of DAO: One or more Darkspawn in West Bracelian Forest will either a) not aggo; orlose aggro halfway through the fight or when they are supposed to die . . . and then walk off. They just sort of hang around after that . . .
I actually had something similar happen with the 1.02 patch. In one of my runs, there was a group of 4 werewolves that suddenly decided they didn't want to fight anymore during a battle with a half dozen or more.. After that, I couldn't attack those four, they wouldn't attack my party, and they stayed throughout the rest of my run through the game just hanging around the forest.

Just letting you know - 3 days and still no reply. Previously all emails were answered in less then 24 hours. It looks as if that particular question caused them to just ignore any further correspondence... This has caused me to fervently determine 1 thing. I will NOT buy awakening, and I will NOT buy another EA game EVER. And no, I'm not just "saying" that only to change later. I will NO longer take this treatment.

Slightly similar experience - sometimes a monster just freezes (not because of any spell effects) and stops attacking, just standing there taking hits, then snaps out of it after a few seconds. Well, okay, if they want to die I don't really mind but it happened once to my PC and that wasn't so funny. I get the impression it's a script engine glitch (as if their attack scripts have trapped out), rather than, say, a graphics problem. Can't reproduce it, though.
System specs (for what it's worth): Intel Q6600 Quad-Core, 4GB RAM, nVidia 8600GT, Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP2 (UK version), nVidia 195.62 drivers, DA:O UK Retail version, Patch 1.03.
