Am I going insane? Did I install some weird mod that messed up my game? Please, please give me some feedback. I'm running the Digital Deluxe Edition off of Steam, using Windows 7 64-Bit version.

Hey guys, I'm getting random crashes. No specific error numbers, it simply says "Dragon Age Has Stopped Working." It tries to search for a solution, and can't find anything.

Hi,
For random CTD problems on 64 bits windows OS (and maybe on 32 bit) there is a working fix here: http://social.biowar...3999/31#2037048

Regards,
That does not fix the problem. Running Windows 7 64 bit on a Phenom x4 955, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a GTX260, and there are no issues with my newly built system. I took the steps that you wrote in your post and also checked the daorigins.exe file dump to make sure that the software supported over 2GB of RAM and it did. Heard anything else about this problem?
I suspect it has to do with the 1.03 update.
Any help?

Patch 1.03 aside, there has been successful attempts in bug fixes before (i.e. 1.01, 1.01a, 1.02, 1.02a). 1.03 may have been a step in the wrong direction (a big step if you ask me), but there have been successful patches before. The question is, how long are we going to need to wait for a fix to this joke of a patch.wolfwarp wrote...
In my humble opinion, patch 1.03 has to be out because if it doesn't, they won't be able to sell Awakening at all. Awakening needs patch 1.03. That doesn't mean they would care to fix the game after they have made money from Awakening. At least not the signal I have got. Sorry.

PS. Somebody please correct me if I missed a Bioware response to the gamebreaking bugs introduced by 1.03.
Thanks!

So just to be clear, the random crashes are not due to any faulty drivers I might have... it's just a design flaw in the game?
It's definitely the new patch. Other than performance degrading after some time, I never had any problems at all with Dragon Age, now it crashes whenever it feels like it.
Most people seem to consider the: Let's not buy Awakening approach. I agree, let's not until we have our game fixed.

They're obviously aware of the issue as it has been added to the Common Issues and Troubleshooting Index, but I have seen no indication that they are working on a new patch yet. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt that they are working on one, but even I am beginning to lose hope on this one.gediv wrote...

Not trying to be confrontational, but I don't see any acknowledgement in the BioWare Rep's statement that there are crash problems. It seems to be a vague, wave-of-a-hand, PR obligation.

EDIT: After more browsing, I discovered that the game sometimes crashes to desktop due to Quad-Core processors. I have an i5 750. This is absolute garbage... does this mean if I don't want crashing, I have to disable some of my cores?
I tried that, didn't work for me, but good luck, maybe it works for you, I also tried downgrading my video drivers to no avail if this was your intention after that (some people have reported this to fix it for them). So yeah, give it a shot, didn't work for me though.

Hi,
In my case (core i7 950, 12 GB ram, radeon 5970 and win 7 64bits), the cpu affinity trick changed nothing.
I also tried the change of the "max parking" value for cpu's (another thing I have read in some forums), and it had make the game crash much more often.
The only thing that cured my ctd (and i'm fine since) was to patch of the header file to bypass the 2 GB ram limitation.
But it seems that it isn't working in all configurations, sorry if you are in this case.

How would I go about doing that? How do I bypass the 2GB limitation?

Hi,

Regards,
I can confirm (almost) total success using this "re-purposed" Fallout3 fix for >4GB.
Had immediate and incessant CtD problems after installing 1.03 on DA:O. Made it unplayable and so I rolled back to 1.02 and delayed installing (my pre-ordered copy of) DA:A until a fix was available. Must admit, I presumed that Bioware, not the community, would be the one providing it!
Have now logged over 40 (probably closer to 60) hours of DA:O and DA:A combined play and have experienced CtD maybe 3 or 4 times.
No specific, obvious, or repeatable triggers. Able to reload and replay the same scenario without a crash. Although I do feel like it's only happening when I've combined several different types of actions; e.g. "Begin to cast an AOE spell, then immedately pause before completing, while having another party member toss a freeze bomb, and activating an ability (with visual effects) on a third." The CtD occurs when I un-pause.
Anyway, (as I do every time I comment on this issue) I want to thank akanounnikof for finding, tweaking, and providing the rest of us with this workaround. Merci, mon ami(e?)!

Hi, I have observed that. But these 1.01a, 1.02a patches seem to be released within the same month (in terms of days) the main patch was released. As for 1.03 patch, it is long overdued and hence I suspect this fix is not their priority, if at all. Well, I would be glad that if BioWare proves me wrong.

Explanation for the game suddenly becoming ridiculously easy? Not that I would know as I could never complete a battle under 1.03.

And there is also a small glitch.
Now for see mana and vigor (I hope is this in english), I have to pause the game and go on party memebers with arrow.

Also, dog and shale tactics are buggy after the patch. They don't attack targets of character x anymore despite having that tactic set. specific to dog and shale only that I noticed, instead they freeze up in battle until I take manual control of them both.
After the patch, the DAupdater did not update itself to 1.03 and now will not run at all, saying there is a program error every time I try to start it.
Last but not least and definitely most annoying, my previously purchased DLC now registers as unauthorized, and I can only load old save games while offline to play with all my content. My purchased content page on the site and my account looks just fine, just none of it is registering as legal in the game itself. Annoying.

The end, after the text epilogues, the Mother's death scene loops endlessly. I'm not sure if having a couple grubs still alive matters or not, but the only way to stop it was quitting the program via alt-f4. Also, the living grubs had the red combat circles around them in the initial death scene (before the epilogues) but after did not.

Moore's law of computers every 18 months doubles the power of computers and consoles force this to be fact not idle speculation.
Sony already supports Linux and Open Office. And Xbox was always just MS trying to get some of Sonys pie.And do you realy see MS wanting to make Home PC to witch they own the monopoly to the OS and is there bread and butter less Popular?
No the future will remain PC not Consoles. As Consoles become PCs.
As for EA there behaver is inexcusable and will in the long run cost them money. I for will no longer buy there games. Patch 1.03 and EA pretending it's ok is ignorance beyond measure and for me the strew that broke the camels back.
