So your going to just take it? And then fork over more money for DLC ,in the meantime, to add to a broken game.
Well with people like you lining up, I may have to go buy some EA shares.
I apologize ahead of time for incoming wall of text.
Geez. Why all the gloom and doom?
Sure the game has problems. And yes a lot of the special abilties are just pretty icons that don't function as intended (or desired). But if you play on a PC (which I assume you do) there are a number of mods that fix 80-90% of the balance and gameplay problems (of course that doesn't include the long load times, CTDs, or DLC download issues).
I agree some of the official DLC content is kind of underwhelming (given how short each vignette is) but the main game is still spot on for the story and characters. And if you get a mod like Combat Tweaks the gameplay is very balanced and you can use optional featrues to adjust difficulty to your heart's desire (from vanilla / easy to insanity / getting your teeth kicked in every other fight).
It sounds like a fair share of the reported bugs here have nothing to do with patch v1.03. And I am sorry for those people who are experiencing crashes (sure that sucks) but I can appreciate that it isn't easy to develop something across multiple platforms. Let alone on the PC side where so many people have so many different hardware / OS configurations nowadays it must be insane. And I am sure the long load times are frustrating for some people and I empathize, I really do, since I get those as well the longer I play, But it isn't the end of the world to quit the game every 1-1.5 hours and reload. At least it works for me.
There are a lot of other games out there that commit much more cardinal gaming sins and fail from the start in that they are (a) wholesale derivative of previous games, (

uncreative and uncompelling (is that a word?), or © so busted and broken they are unplayable from the start. DAO has been none of those things. Heck I enjoyed it out of the box in v1.0.
Sure it had bugs (daggers / dex, OP Cone of Cold / Crushing Prison, weird encounter balancing) but I still had a heck of fun time immersing myself in the DAO universe. I only turned to mods like Combat Tweaks so I could expereince the rest of the game that wasn't working in vanilla. As a side benefit these mods gave me back the difficulty (and more) that Bioware nerfed to bits in the early patches becuase people complained and cried how hard it all was. But guess what I am on my fifth playthrough right now. I can't think of any other recent games that have had similar amount of replayability (that I know isn't a word but meh) with the differnt party compositons, character classes and origin stories.
Anyways I am getting off my soapbox. Peace.
