I also have the same problem of random crashes since installing 1.03 patch. Previously I had played over 40hours of DA without patching and didn't have a single crash.
I tried installing DA without Awakening and same problem.
I'm gonna try it on WinXP32 now. I'll also try 1.02 patch and see..

Specs:
Windows7x64
Athlon II X3
Radeon 5770 w/ 10.5 drivers
6GB Ram

I'm having a really big problem since patching to 1.03 . At first I was patching to try and fix another problem (couldn't enter one shop without a crash no matter what) and instead, now all damage in the game has no effect. I cannot kill any enemies and they cannot kill me, which means I am now permanently stuck in a random encounter in Denerim. If anyone has any ideas on fixes please let me know - or direct me to the according post/thread. Thanks

I personally have just patched back to 1.02a until the new patch comes out (saves made after 1.03 was installed may not work after patching back, however):

WonderGamer wrote...

FilePlanet no longer has the 1.02a patch, I did find it on FileFront however (I also have it backed up; I'll upload it to a file hosting site if needed).  You'll need to uninstall & remove all folders (including Character Creator, MOD Manager, override & files in your My Documents\BioWare\Dragon Age folder), then reinstall & patch back up to 1.02a.  If you don't remove all files in these folders (safer just to delete the whole folder), then you'll run into patching errors when you try to repatch (I ran into these errors also); you can back up your Character Creator, MOD Manager, override & save folders beforehand, but they cannot be in the destination folder when you reinstall.  The 1.02a patch is more recent than the 1.02 patch; it can be found on FileFront hereXfire only has the 1.02 patch, but I'll see if I can get them to upload the 1.02a version patch since I have some connections over there.

I just patched to 1.03 because the load times were unbearable (after 5 hours of playing, they were consistently 15 minutes or more, usually just to load the next part of denerim or to leave a shop) and one of the first things I did when I finished patching was head from Denerim to Redcliffe. Half way there, I got attacked by darkspawn. I'm playing as a mage and I could attack the enemies all I wanted, same with Wynne, but I also had Sten and Zevran and neither of them would do ANYTHING except block. And not only that, but everyone, both my party and the AI, were totally invincible. I thought it just wasn't showing the health or mana/stamina, but after spending 5 minutes attacking the same enemy (a Hurlock Alpha), I quit the game.

I reinstalled the game, but I still don't want to play it because I'll have to deal with the insane load times. So, it looks like I can't play Dragon Age: Origins until Bioware does something about ANYTHING.

Also, this is pretty unrelated, but as I was playing, I noticed that certain NPCs have quests that require DLC, which you have to pay for. That means that the DLC was already finished when DA:O was released, right? Why make you pay for something that should've come with the game in the first place?! I also find it weird because I found none of that in ME2. In fact, the only issues I have with ME2 (360 version, I have DA:O for the PC) was that it crashed every so often. And, to be fair, even that's an improvement over ME1 which sometimes crashed every few minutes (On my most recent playthrough, it crashed 7 times on Virmire alone).

Same. Just dunno why but after I've installed 1.03 started new game and played like for 5-8 hours load times became unbearably long and so is framerate (even and low settings)

No, not really.

Why make you pay for something that should've come with the game in the first place?!

The only DLC that was finished when the game was released was the Stone Prisoner, which is free with each new copy.

And Warden's Keep, which was ready on day 1 only because the game's release wsa delayed. However, Warden's Keep was always intended to be for-purchase DLC. You don't have to pay for anything that should've come with the game in the first place.

http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Filda

"Warning- I've never had trouble with this quest before. However, in
one playthrough I spoke to Ruck w/ Oghren in my party. I then spoke to
the mom as regular, but reloaded and continued without speaking her.
After finishing the Anvil quest and electing Bhelen she completely
disappeared from my game thus preventing me from completing the quest.

I was playing XBox 360 on the latest 1.03 patch. This was a
peculiar error as I've never had this happen to me before. Just to be
on the safe side I'd recommend that players speak to her before Ruck,
and then finish speaking to her immediately after dealing with Ruck.

As for the bug, I think the Orzammer encounter of Harrowmont
supporters around where Filda's located may have overriden her
appearance there. Hopefully Bioware will fix the bug in their next
patch."

I'd just like to point out that I think the 1.03 patch may have caused Filda to vanish from my game.  Please fix this so that she is set to remain in her location in Orzammer even when the events above transpire. (and especially if they've already transpired, I want to finish this quest!)

Bugged Quests in 1.03

Friends of the Grey Wardens (don't know if this 'quest' has a name, actually)  -- Denerim

1: read the poster by the alienage gate re: friends of the grey wardens meeting at a pearl.

2: visit the grey pearl bordello.

3: speak to the propriotoress.  skip the too-obvious 'we heard some friends were meeting here' dialogue option and instead pretend to browse the selection.  get stuck in a room with some nugs :X

4: escape the room and restart the conversation.  ask about the 'friends meeting.'  get the nod to go in the back.

5: go in the back... nobody/nothing is there.

6: go out and come back, return later, etc etc, talk to the propriotoress, the friends conversation branch is gone.  and... no 'friends' ever show up.

Back Alley Justice  -- Denerim

i've been to all the back alley sites, and we beat up all the bands of thieves.  yet, this quest does not say it is completed.  i've revisited all the sites, and the alleys in the main denerim map, and the warehouse there -- there's no more gangs of thieves, and the quest is not completed.

Captured -- Landsmeet/Denerim

after talking to the guy in the next cell and saying you can escape on your own, you cannot then change your mind and speak to him again to get the dialogue to have your friends come rescue you.  it used to be this way, because that's how i did it in my first play-though.  if you can't get out, you just talk to him again to change your strategy.  but now, he does not have any dialogue option at all.

After I installed Awakening I've had crashes galore. This is a major issue with many users. It could be a result of 1.03 and Awakening at the same time. All I know is I'm bored silly after plying the heck out of Fallout, Oblivion and Diablo >.<

Dude seriously, it's been 3 months and freaking nothing on this. I can't beat the game because I was conned into installing the 1.03 patch. The expansion pack I bought i s ap paper weight. I mean SOMETHING, some sort of timeline, and ETA anything to assuage us loyal customers that we will be able to finish our game.

I wouldn't say no reason at all.  I was upset about the lack of updates when I found out how botched 1.03 was as well; I just wasn't flaming all over the place like most people.  Image IPB

Running DA 1.03 on WindowsXP 32bit seemed to have mostly fixed the crashes. It only crashed once so far after a few days playing.

LOL No, I meant they were flaming other people for absolutely no reason.. I don't really blame them for flaming over the patch and what-not, but some just wanted to pick a fight.

Yeah, I noticed that.  A lot of pent up anger getting misdirected.  Well it looks like they're making progress on the patch now, so I'm willing to be a bit more patient until it gets released.  I just hope the major issues that made me revert back to 1.02a get in the patch before it's released.  Image IPB

Tempers are running high is all we just got not turn on each other and remeber why we are here and why we are angry.
1 We want a new patch to get what we payed for.
2 We want a patch that was tested this 1.03 nightmare was not exept in house.
3 We want better Customer care as well as Quality Crontrol (Fire some one please EA)
I my self was was one first people with a problem and flat out ignored.
Then told that I was at fault and there would be no new fix patch.
Then there was some problem with very small group but there would be no patch.
Then told it was not there fault as they FORGOT to test 64 bit. Like they were 7 year old kids!
Then I was Told they were working on it.
Now I am told the code was bad and untested but that no ones fault so ease up!
A Total lack of the ability to take responsibility!
There will be a patch 1.04 satisfied?

Well Frankly NO I AM NOT!
A patch 1.04 fix,Finaly!
That would be nice as it was what I payed for Already.
I have not been able play in several Months.
But After all this time of not getting what I payed for well some one should Pay for this in Quality Control Management.
Yep, Fired some one needs to get off there drugs and there Fat AZZ and get on the unemployment Line.
There Hardworking People who deseve that job and who got it now clearly dose not.

I had a dream, where I had excellent customer care for my purchased game. Where a patch would make the game go at least two steps forward and one step back. Where all the Grey Wardens, whether they be dwarven, elven, or human, can obliterate the darkspawn without fear of a crash. Sadly though, it was just a dream :(

Wow. 3 months I have waited and still no news for new patch? It is after all a good decision not to buy into more DLC, like I did before. I will check in another month or so to see the progress, if any.

I'm hoping someday that I'll be able to play Awakenings.

As well I see when other companies pull these bone headed moves they release some DLC for free.
*Hint Bioware Devs read last sentence*

There *is* news of a patch.  http://social.biowar...4/index/2860181.  I don't think it's very impressive (at all) news, considering how long it's taking, but there *is* news.

considering they added about 5 bug fixes between the 4th & the 11th, I think they're making progress.  The only downside was that they ignored the issue for so long (or so it seems).
